I am trying to choose a resort for my wedding in May or July of 2008 in the Playa Del Carmen area. Does anybody have any thoughts about the Iberostar Paraiso Maya vs the El Dorado Royale?

    Thank you for your help,

Hey there! I'm getting married in the same area in November. I've been doing tons of research and am actually going down next Monday for a site visit.
I haven't heard great things about the Iberostar (mostly b/c of its size) and the food. However, I have heard GREAT things about the El Dorado Royale. The only reason I'm not getting married there is they don't allow children, it's an adults only resort. I've also heard getting in touch with the wedding coordinator there is a challenge but ultimately she comes through.
I am looking into Dreams Tulum, the Paradisus, and Azul among others.
      Hope this helps!

I'm interested in how your site visit goes! I'm still trying to decide between a few resorts, although Dreams Tulum is starting to pull ahead in my mind. My only concern with DT is that I hope it still feels "tropical" - I like the modern style of the resort, but I don't want it to feel too sterile. I'm not sure if that makes sense! For some reason, the big rectangle pool dissapoints me a little... I think I'd prefer a curvy, long pool with waterfalls, tropical plants, etc. Anyways, keep me posted on your trip!

Thank you for your suggestions. I keep changing my mind once I hear about people's experiences. It seems like all of the resorts come with good and bad reports.

EDR charges fees to bring in your own photographer, etc. Just something to keep in mind.

Welcome and congrats. Let us know how we can help.

I know that we looked at both and liked the Iberostar, except it was so big, and LOVED the EDR except they don't allow kids.

                  Happily married since 2008
