Beach wedding questions

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I am getting married in Playa del Carmen (Mexico) this year and am having the ceremony on the beach (I think). For all you gals who had the ceremony on a public beach, was it weird with other people around watching? Or did you not even notice the beach crowd?

Also, my ceremony is currently at 2pm, which I think I am going to have changed since it will be so hot at that time. Anyone else had a mid afternoon ceremony? How did you find the heat?

Thanks!

what resort are you getting married at? i'm getting married at the riu yucatan in playa del carmen.

personally, there was no way i wanted to get married on the beach specifically for that privacy issue. i'm sure you don't actually notice during the ceremony, but i just kept seeing all these pictures with people crowded around watching. it's just not for me. but some people totally don't mind!

with that being said i'm getting married in the garden. :)

I walked past a few people on beach chairs (it was a LONG walk) at Dreams Cabo to the huppah on the beach but I really didn't mind.. I thought the attention was fun. Everyone was just saying how pretty I looked and congratulations.. some people might mind.. but not me.

Now speedo boy behind the alter would be too much! Looking at our video I realized a guy was fishing down the beach a little, but he wasn't in our photos and I never noticed.

I've heard that most people are respectful if they see a wedding. Granted they would probably look at you, but I doubt they would crowd in to watch the wedding. I can't say for sure, because I didn't have a wedding on a public beach.

There are a few people that are plain rude though- not just with weddings, but life in general. So I wouldn't be surprised is some a$$ went walking buy in a speedo during a prime pic opportunity.

Also, I think 2pm would be too hot anywhere in Mexico. I think most girls do a 4 or 5pm ceremony, but I could be wrong.

Depending on your resort double check that they still have a beach- some of the Riviera Maya resorts have lost their beaches to mother nature!

I know when I was at Couples Swept Away they had posted security guards and staff to direct people away from where the ceremony was taking place.

One guy when he was redirected (and yes he was in a a speedo !smile27.gif) tried to just walk a few steps up the beach and then cut across where the bride & groom were exchanging vows. The guard nearly tackled him- it was great!! He finally got a clue and walked far enough so he wouldn't be in any photo's ( it was maybe another 15 steps!

OMG! Some people are clueless.. no doubt that's the case cuz he's wearing a freakin' speedo! lol-- no offense meant to any forum members or FH that enjoy wearing speedos.

I'm so glad you posted this, and I don't mean to hijack your thread. I had a minor (maybe borderline major!) freak out over the weekend after seeing some beach wedding photos from the resort we are having our wedding at. In all the pictures literally a foot away from the wedding set up was a line of yellow lounge chairs and people standing in their bikinis, speedos and swimtrunks in the background of all the ceremony photos. In the pictures of the bride and groom it looks like this lady is standing right next to the groom in her bikini.

The pictures I had seen previously from my resort (Iberostar Lindo) just showed the set up and the lounge chairs were pushed (they said) 30 feet from the ceremony site so I thought it would be fine! However, it is a public beach and apparently people can walk and move the chairs where they please. You could get lucky and have nice people around that will stay out of the way, but on the other hand if you get rude ones you may end up with people in their swimsuits in the background of your pics. I'm not sure if that bothers you, but I definitely did not want that. Needless to say we are in the process of changing our wedding location, and I am really bummed because I wanted the barefoot beach wedding. We scheduled our ceremony for 4 PM in November as that is what was recommended to me. Good luck!

Don't give up - enlist some of the groomsmen to "toe the line" so to speak!

Ask that they just get there a bit early and keep people from moving the chairs- I'm really suprised that Iberostar doesn't enlist staff to keep people out of the pics! The beaches in Jamaica are all public also but for the 5 minutes that the ceremony takes......staff could easily redirect people!

I also noticed that the photographers had a helper (or two) that steered people out of the photo's.

ive asked several couples who got married on the beach and they didnt even notice people watching them. they are so into each other and the moment that they dont even know they were there until the photos that i showed them. and even then people in the background can be so easily erased in photoshop that the stragglers can be erased for good. if your dream is to be married on the beach then dont let that stop you :)

do you see the dominican republic photo down below in my signature? there were people standing right next to them and i photoshopped them out so as you can see the photos can be fixed if there are people that you dont want there.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
