I highly suggest researching resorts on your own because some travel agents will only suggest certain resorts that they get a bigger slice of cake from (i.e. money).
I would start by looking up different resorts in Punta Cana, looking at ones you seem interested in, emailing the wedding coordinators for wedding package info/pricing, etc and going from there. THEN, select a travel agent, once you've narrowed that down.

am an Iberostar bride myself. :)

Punta Cana is gorgeous!
Hi Cmmdee!

Thanks for the advice!! We did narrow it down to The Majestic, Dreams and Bahia...our TA is currently looking into prices for us for those 3 and a few more she said we may like. There are just so many resort possibilities, I'm scared of ruling ones out that we may like!!!

Just FYI...Check out the thread with the bride who had her e-ring stolen from The Majestic. Also TA Tammy mentioned she doesn't push Majestic because of there customer service.

I know how you feel....I am so indecisive to begin with but its hard to select one resort out of many and its not just a vacation--its your WEDDING! So I know how you feel. Good thing you are starting early...I just booked my resort TODAY with Dreams with only 8mths left to go. Good luck & happy planning :)

Thank-you so much for letting me know!! I really really like The Majestic, but every time I mention it, someone tells me about the only 2 bad reviews I have found about it. It's comforting to hear that other people are still going there!! It's definitely at the top of my list. Have you seen the facebook group for the resort? If not, check it out, over 500 pictures and lots of members to talk to about their experiences!!!

Hi there!!

I stayed at the Majestic in May 2007 and I LOVED it! The wedding sites that I saw there were very pretty and the food was good!

Overall...I was very pleased and would have my wedding there!

Good Luck!

As far as the Riu's...if your guests are at different resorts, does it cost money for them to come to the one where the wedding is going to take place? I read somewhere on here that it was $75US to have someone come onto the resort if they're not actually staying there......
No, the Riu's have a "stay at one, play at all" policy. So it works out for me to have my seperated parents stay at different resorts with a whole resort between them and I can go see who I want and when I want.

One thing to keep in mind about the Riu complexes and weddings is a strange rule that if 80% of your guests are at one hotel in the complex you have to get married at the hotel where 80% if the guests are. (Wedding Packages by Destination. Honeymoon Holidays. Weddings by Riu)

I know that's what ruled that Riu out for me. Knowing some of my family, we would have ended up at the Naiboa drinking wine out of a box. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I'd like something slightly nicer for our day.

I thought I posted this today but maybe I didnt...

Here are a few things to think about while planning:

Where your fliying out of.

We are flying out of Boston Mass, rather then Manchester NH because it is much cheaper. Mass is about 1 1/2 hours from us where Manchester is 30 min.

The days you are flying on matters a lot as well. Saturday to Saturday was more expensive. I went with Friday to Friday and it made it much cheaper...

We are getting married at Gran Bahia Principe Punta Cana

We paid 1250 a person, that includes our flight, tax, transportation to and from the resort, the resort price including all drinks food and every room is a Jr suite.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
