At Home Reception Question...

Recommended Posts

There are many threads on this, but I think the bottom line is that there is no set rule on what the "acceptable" time limit is. I think your guests will understand no matter what you decide (within reason...it's not like you want to do it 2 years later, lol). I've seen lots of brides comment about the timing of their AHR and they vary from a week after they return from the DW, up to a year later. There are many reasons for the dates including what works for their schedules, the weather (for an outside AHR), financial reasons, etc. So just do what works for you and it will all work out :)

im going nuts planning two so close.
I think that too far down the road is a little inappropriate, but 2 weeks is a bit too soon!...a month or two would probably be perfect!
Hi Kel! I'm planning a big reception as well. We are thinking about 3 weeks after we get back from our honeymoon which puts us at the end of June. To answer the question though, I think it really depends on you and your schedule and finances too for that matter. Personally speaking, I wouldn't have it too far removed from the wedding, but that is just me. I feel like it's not really a wedding celebration anymore, more of just a party, kwim? But I don't think there's really a right or wrong way to do it.

We are getting married end of april and doing the AHR beggining of July in my fathers backyard. Planned it that way to have better weather. Also planned it on a long weekend for out of town guest. Doing a sit down dinner under a tent but catered buffet. Feels like a second wedding really and it sucks that alot of the same people that are coming to the DW will be there, two meals, two wedding favors etc...Ah well I guess we are doing this more for them than us but should be a blast anyway just alot of additional expenses! Personally i wouldn't wait more than 6 months but if your schedule doesn't allow for it people will understand.

We are getting married in Mexico November 2010 and have decided to have our AHR in February or March.  We figured it's far enough from the holidays and a party will be a nice break in the middle of a cold Canadian winter for all our friends and family.

I may be crazy, but I am actually having my AHR the weekend after we get back from our honeymoon!!  I wanted it to be really close so it was still "fresh".  But I do not by far think it would be wierd for someone to wait awhile!!

We're planning ours for around 6 weeks after the wedding. We're getting married on 4th August and we've set the date for the AHR for 15th September. I wanted it more like 2nd/3rd September, but FI wanted it more like end of September or October. We'll be spending a bit more time on honeymoon after the wedding, so we'll probably get home around 20th August. We're holding our AHR in his parents' barn, so we will need some time to get it decorated after we get back. Plus, I'm hoping that we'll be trying for a baby pretty soon after the wedding and I do not want to be pregnant at my AHR!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
