Sohappy's engagement story

Recommended Posts

I had hinted to Mike that I really liked fireworks thinking that maybe he would propose to me on New Year's eve.

The fireworks came but no proposal, ok so I can't plan my own proposal.

The proposal...

Mike called to tell me that he was coming early for our Friday date. I just figured he wanted to beat traffic since we don't live close to each other. I wasn't ready when he came, I didn't know that he had an agenda with a time line. So he rushed me out of the house.

He took me ice skating at Pershing Square in Los Angeles, this is ironic to him (he's from Boston) b/c its an outdoor ice skating rink in LA. They have it open once a year and it was romantic with the Christmas lights still on the trees. He knows that I've always wanted to learn how to iceskate. We got there late and the session was almost over but we still have time for a few rounds.

My legs were getting tired and he got scared that I wanted to stop altogether so he got down on one knee and pretended to tie his shoelace, slipped the ring on my finger, and proposed but some little kid almost ran into me and the staffguard? thought Mike fell down and rushed over and then everyone realized what was going on. Mike got so distracted he didn't even hear me say "yes".

He didn't stop there. He took me to a really nice restaurant (Cicada) where I was underdress. I was surprised to meet my entire immediate family there. Time was going by too fast and Mike was worried that everyone wanted dessert, luckily no one wanted dessert. He was still on a time line.

He checked us into the Standard hotel in downtown LA. He had me closed my eyes made me walk around and then put something in my hands, then I opened my eyes to a dark room with a sparkler going off. He said there's your fireworks! Good thing the smoke alarm didn't go off.

He then took me to the rooftop bar, as we got out of the elevators I was surprised to be greeted by my friends and a great view of the city I love.

Everyone was in on it all week long except for me!

It was special b/c he combined all the elements of what I love, my family, friends, and him showing that he understands I love LA too much to leave for elsewhere.

I can't forget the special fireworks he created for me.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
