T. Jean's Life Porridge

2 c water

1/4 cup steel oats

1/4 cup whole oats (These are hard to find. I substitute rolled oats.)

2 tbs oat bran

1-2 tbs ground flax seed

1/4 t cinnamon

1 tbs flaxseed oil

raw agave nectar to sweeten (They sell this at whole foods.)

Serving size equals 3/4-1 cup

Bring water to a boil. Add steel cut oats. Simmer for 15 minutes. Add whole oats. Simmer for 5 more minutes. Remove porridge from heat. Stir in oat bran, cinnamon, and flax oil. Drizzle with agave nectar of 100% maple syrup.

For variety, top wth shaved almonds, chopped apples, fresh berried, dried cranberries or goji berries.

Brown sugar and cinnamon pop-tarts were all I used to eat for breakfast, until Matt told me they were so bad for me. I was like, what? Pop-tarts? Bad for you? Nooooooooo. But anyway, I only eat themoccastionally now instead of daily.

Since I joined WW last week, one of the breakfasts they suggest is yogurt, granola and fruit. And I agree with you on the yogurt. It's kinda nasty. But when you add the fruit and granola, it's surprisingly good. I might even call it delicious.

I LOVE breakfast! And of course I love the kind that's bad for you the most. :-) I'm a sucker for waffles, bacon, hashbrowns etc. Yum! But obviously I really only have time for that on the weekends.

For weekdays I'm a cereal girl. I eat the kashi cereals, the Smart Start and vanilla almond Special K. Those are probably the ones I buy most. But I also LOVE plain ol' Crispix, rice krispies and cheerios...esp the multi grain ones! If I get those more plain cereals though, I usually make sure to get some bananas to slice up in them. Also, instant oatmeal and the kashi hot cereal are good.

In a real pinch I'll shake up some slim fast or whey protein shake on my way out the door. Although I prefer blending those in the blender w/ fruit if I have time.

Also, honey wheat bagels w/ a little peanut butter...Mmmmmm!

I used to not eat breakfast but have been better about it lately and I have noticed that it keeps me from pigging out during the day.

I usually eat 1 of 3 menus for breakfast:

1. Cereal with Lowfat Milk and Fruit

2. Kashi Granola Bar or Fiber 1 Chocolate Granola Bar and Banana

3. Oatmeal

I have a great baked oatmeal recipe made with apples and dried fruit. You can grab a square so it's like a muffin or heat it and serve with milk. PM me if you'd like it.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
