E-Ring stolen from safe in Majestic Colonial Punta Cana

Recommended Posts

Okay I know I am reviving a really old topic here, but I wanted to ask this question.

1. Short of just never going in the water and constantly carrying a fanny pack with your valuables, how do you keep your passport, money, and credit card secure while on a vacation away? It is impossible to not travel with these and these are things that would be a target for thieves.

2. Do they sell water-proof flat fanny-like packs that you can just strap onto yourself and swim with while on vacation? If such a thing existed then at least you could keep all your important documents and money on your person at all times.

3. Would it not be prudent to encourage all guests to check the resort's policies on theft before booking so that you know what to expect if something were to happen? That way, a hotel with an inadequate theft policy can expect to see a lot less bookings than one that did.

I remember this... I was actually at the resort for a friends wedding when this happened and the entire resort heard about this girl.

I do feel bad for her, however, why are you bringing a $25k ring with you?

I think if you can afford a ring like that, you can afford a replica of it made. Its not worth taking chances on something with that value.

Okay, so now after reading this, and reading many peoples opinions about the DR...is it safe to travel to? I have been there before, and had no problems what so ever. I also know a lot of other people who have gone 2-3 times and would go back again...

But now this makes me nervous...

I believe DR is just as safe to travel to as any other popular carribean spot. This story, honestly, sounds like one of those freakish incidents where the accounts of the events really don't add up from either of the two parties involved (I researched it on the net and there are a lot of holes in this story from both sides, probably due to pending legal actions). The truth here may never be known. I think the only take-home points from here are to

1. Be smart with your valuables to minimize the chance that this will happen to you.

2. Have the numbers to the embassy of your country in the event that you end up in a crisis.

3. Have the number to your tour operator or whoever you booked your trip with for support.

4. Please, insure your $25K ring.

Now my question: What are measures that other people take to prevent theft/loss? Maybe someone has a unique strategy they use? An water-proof pouch? Hide their credit card in a sock? Lock up the suitcase? These would be more practical things to talk about and quell some fears.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
