Savanah's Planning Thread - 12/17/12 - Dreams Riviera Cancun

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! The wedding has come and gone and to repay everyone who helped me through this site during the wedding planning process, I wanted to make sure to do a planning thread/review even though it's late!! We were married on 12/17/12 at Dreams Riviera Cancun in Puerto Morelos, Mexico!

I have a blog where I have documented almost everything wedding related so on some things I'll direct you with a link there instead of rewriting everything out I already wrote there!

The Engagement:

We got engaged on December 21, 2011 in NYC while visiting my husbands family for Christmas!

Both of our rings are from Blue Nile - I chose to get 2 matching wedding bands for both sides of my ring. Husbands is tungsten and mine is white gold.

You can read our full proposal story here on my blog:

The Resort:

We chose Dreams Riviera Cancun after seeing pictures of the wedding gazebo and the pool deck. We chose late december due to school schedules.

Asking The Bridesmaids:

I'm not sure where I found this little saying, but I had one of my friends design this little card for me and I mailed it to all 3 of my BM's since we aren't in the same city. My MOH was my sister and my 2 BM's were my SIL's.

Groom/Groomsment/FOB/FOG attire:

Husbands suit was from Jos A Bank. He found it on clearance at the beginning of the fall since it was a summer suit. The groomsmen and dads were just told to wear khaki pants, white long sleeve shirts, brown belt and brown dress shoes. We bought all of their ties at Macy's. They're Tommy Hilfiger.

My Hair and Makeup:

These were done by the resort spa. Perla did both for me and I was very pleased! The flower was real and was purchased from the wedding coordinator and delivered to the spa the morning of the wedding.

Maracas:

We had Maracas sitting on every ceremony chair with a tag I made and tied on every one. These were for people to shake when we kissed and as we walked back down the aisle for the recessional.

We ordered them from www.Amols.com. Very cheap but good quality for what we needed them for!

Flowers:

My flowers were one of my favorite things about how our wedding turned out. I picked one of the standard bouquets from the resort flower book and just told them to change the colors. Same with our centerpieces. They turned out perfect. I brought the teal and pink ribbon for them to wrap around the bouquets. My cats are my babies so I took small photos of them and put them in frame charms from Hobby Lobby and they tied them to my bouquet for me! We got a ceremony table arrangement included in our package so they moved that to the reception and used it as a centerpiece.

http://www.etsy.com/shop/DefineDesign11

I don't have a good close up picture of this, but it's a picture of Texas, New York and Mexico (met, engaged, married). And I brought silver sharpies for everyone to sign. We already have it displayed in our house! :)

The Wedding Video:

We got a 30 minute wedding video included with our package. For it to be included, I was happy with how it turned out especially since I hadn't even talked or met with the videographer ahead of time. My husband put the video up on vimeo so here is the link to it. Of course the quality went down and there's a big watermark because we didn't have the program to rip it correctly.

- the password is Dreams

We also used Story Mix Media for our other wedding video... http://storymixmedia.com

We got 3 video cameras to take with us to Mexico and use the whole trip and people could also use the app on their cell phones. We don't have the final edited video back yet, but I will share once we have it! I think it's going to be REALLY FUN to see video footage of the whole 10 days we were there!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
