Newbie - very early stages

Hi Everyone, I'm new to the site after hearing about it from friends. FI and I got engaged just a few weeks ago and we are really excited to marry each other. The only thing we've decided on is a destination wedding as our people are spread out throughout Canada and it will be in Oct or Nov of 2013. We're looking for somewhere warm (Mexico, Carribbean, Central America?), affordable for the guests and as we're inviting kids, an all inclusive resort that has a family section and an adults only section for our kid-free friends (I'm hoping this exists!). I'm also trying to decide whether to use a travel agent or not, as the number of resorts out there feel overwhelming. I'm excited to start searching and learning as I've heard this site is extremely informative. Thanks for having me!

Welcome TealMarie! and Congrats on your upcoming wedding ! Have you looked at the Barcelo Maya Palace Resort? They're huges and have family areas and separate pool areas for adults only......a beautiful place that fits so many requirements.

Here are some magic wedding 'moments that matter" that Linc uncovered there at one of his recent weddings to show you how gorgerous it is......with more at the album here........https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151227422909487.478214.18683524486&type=3

Get a travel agent!! We weren't going to at first, but it's the best decision we've made. And use this website, it/all the women are such a great resource to have. PM me if I can help at all!

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks for all the suggestions and help! I have started talking to a travel agent, as the options are just so overwhelming. It's great to have a website like this where you can read about real brides experiences - so helpful. I'll be sure to check out the reviews and individual forums for the resorts we're interested in.

Congrats TealMarie!!!

I would also suggest a travel agent. You can sometimes get some great perks, such as every __ person free, and best of all you don't have to be the travel planner for all your guests! When we were looking at whether to use a TA or not I talked to a couple companies directly to see how getting a group rate would work. Some only give group rates for the rooms and I know westjetvacations makes you call for every guest question or payment, etc!!! That was a big deal breaker since I did not want to have to get on the horn to the travel company every time a guest wanted to know something or wanted to put a payment down.

As for resorts, I'm not too sure what other resorts have both an adults only and a kids section, but we are also getting married at the bahia principe akumal resort and they have 4 resorts on one property, including one that is adults only (Sian ka'an) but it is a little ways inland on the other side of the highway... still connected to the rest of the resort though. I think a lot of the resorts offer some sort of adults section now though, with an adults only pool, etc.

Good luck with choosing your resort!! cheesy.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
