Wanting to get married in Riviera Maya/Cancun-- looking for suggestions+

Recommended Posts

My fiance prefers an adults-only but I think would consider another resort if it were what I wanted :). We were looking at Secrets but it seems a little pricey and I don't want to make it too expensive for guests. Anyone that has gotten married in Mexico, please let me know what resort and your thoughts.  Thank you so much, I am overwhelmed!

We got married at the El Dorado Royale in Riviera Maya, Mexico and it was fantastic! I had been to the adults only resort prior to our wedding for my cousins wedding and fell in love. It doesnt have a hotel-like atmosphere, but more of an exotic, secluded beach get away. While the resort it self is very big, it still has a intimate feel. When we initially looked at the prices, we thought it would be too high for our guests, but they run a lot of specials and when you book with a group, they give your 20% off the regular room rates. The bride and groom also get 20% off all of your private parties, so we got our rehearsal dinner and reception food and beverages for 20% off!

For booking a certain number of rooms, we (the bride and groom) got a specific amount towards our stay. We booked 21 rooms and I believe got $1,350 towards our room! We also got the same amount to use when we go back to any resort within the Karisma Properties on our 1 year anniversary stay. I am not sure what promotions they are running right now, but they always seem to have great options!

You are definitely in the right place for some inspiration. I m totally additcted :-)

The Secret resorts are beautiful but as you say, are pricey. Some others I have come across, which are 'adult only' are (not sure how prices compare):

  • Excellence Playa Mujeres 5* - Playa Mujeres area
  • Excellence Riviera Cancun 5* - Riviera Maya (RM)
  • Iberostar Grand Hotel Paraiso 5* - RM

Other resorts (for everyone) that we liked (we have kids in our wedding party) are:

  • Gran Bahia Principe 5* - RM (the most reasonably priced I have found and has excellent reviews from brides on here and Trip Advisor - my personal favourite because of its size)
  • Grand Sirenis 5* - RM
  • Dreams Riviera Cancun 5* - RM

Happy planning :-)

Secrets is in the same chain of resorts as Dreams and Now (all part of AM resorts) - maybe one one of their other resorts would fit what you are looking for?  We loved the Secrets resorts too but the prices we were quotes were just too high to ask guests (it was around 3k pp) so we went with Now Jade.  So far everything has been great - and from other reviews I have read previous brides rave about it, and it was less than half the price of Secrets!

Was married at the Grand Sirenis this past April and couldn't have asked for anything more.  I had previously stayed at the Grand Sirenis in 2008 and enjoyed it then but we picked the GS mainly because of the price for our guests and the fact that they have a private ceremony location and reception area.  All staff went out of their way to make sure everyone in our group had a great time.  The resort is big but easy to get around once you figure out the shortcuts.  We were a group of 35 and about half of us are regular travellers.  My father who travels at least twice a year and is pretty picky was really impressed with the food, saying it was the best that he has had in Mexico.  My aunt who is a travel agent and usually travels 3 times a year was blown away with how great the service was.

I have also stayed at these other resorts in the RM area so don't hesitate if you have any other questiions:

Gran Bahia Coba

Ocean Turquesa

Grand Xcaret

Grand Sunset Princess

I have booked Secrets Maroma Beach through a hotel booking web site and I have saved a lot of money in comparison to tour operator or SMB web site ... I suggest you to check the price also in the web.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
