HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY..........................What is your Mother wearing?

Recommended Posts

First of all....HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL THE MOMS!!!!

Today is Mother's Day and I am spending it dress shopping with my Mom.....

I get married in Cancun on the 4th of July and we are trying to figure out what she will wear.  We went to two malls last night and were very disappointed. First of all....Have you seen "Mother-of-the-Bride" dresses? URGHHHHHHH!!! Why do "they" assume every MOB will be cold????  I ask this because they all have those dern jackets!!!!!!stupid.gif And why.....for the love of God....are they always pale blue, pale pink, pewter, navy or eggplant????confused.gif (These would all be perfect for weddings in the fall or winter....). DW's colors are normally bright and tropical....

My mom is 61 years old and she is FLY!  I call her "Fancy Nancy" (respectfully) because she is so fancyrolleyes.gif

She never leaves the house without eyeliner.....LOL.....she is also the type to wear a fancy scarf to he grocey store....

(I am a t-shirt and sweats kind of girlcool.gif) So....naturally she DOES NOT want to wear an eggplant colored, dress with a jacket!!!!

As it will be very hot.....(to say the least....) in Cancun in July....we are struggling to find something Mom appropriate (don't want her back out out and bling from head to toe...). I suggested a tropical print dress (she wants to be a little ......um....fancier...wacko.gif)

So........

What is your Mother wearing? Did she go more traditional? Or casual?

P.S. - Hopefully I did not offend anyone with the MOB dress rant...In my opinion they are perfect for some.....but not my Mom....

Perhaps the MOB & MOG dress market is a unexplored niche......Hmmmmmm

We ran into that as well - the dresses for MOB were VERY matronly, or they were too young (bridesmaid dresses). My mom still wanted the top of her arms covered, but she didn't want anything too formal. It was harder to find my mom's dress than it was my own!

We hit 3 different bridal shops, and everything she tried on was "too" something or other. Too hot, too long, too formal, too - whatever lol We finally went to Dillard's and found a dress there that she loved. It is a light/pewter blue, and dressy without being too formal. And it was fairly inexpensive too. I can't pull a picture from Dillard's, but here's the link:

My mom didn't like any of the traditional MOB dresses. She found this one on sale in light blue (discontinued color) at a factory outlet store and is wearing it. http://www.anntaylor.com/ann/product/AT-Weddings-%26-Events/AT-Weddings-View-All/Silk-Dupioni-Scoop-Neck-Bridesmaid-Dress/269234?colorExplode=false&skuId=10654033&catid=cata000035&productPageType=fullPriceProducts&defaultColor=3146

My Mom has purchased this dress for our wedding in Mexico but since the wedding is not until February 2013 I have a feel she may end up with more than one dress!  For my brother's wedding 2 years ago she bought 3 different dresses since she couldn't decide which one she liked best.  At least she got this one on sale if she does chance her mind, ha!

Also I completely agree with your rant about MoB dresses -- having 2 older brother's who have alread gotten married (with traditional weddings) my Mother was thrilled to get to think outside the box of pastel colours, jackets over dresses and other traditional MoB styles.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
