Expedia messed up... we arrive in DR on 2/24 but don't check in to hotel until 2/25! What to do?

Recommended Posts

Well, I don't know how this was overlooked, but when I booked via Expedia.com, they have us flying in on 2/24/12 at 3pm but we are not to check in to the hotel until 2/25/12!  How could they even fly me to a country and not provide me with a place to stay for that evening?

Has anyone had this happen to them before?  What did you do?

Apparently the hotel is all booked and I am not sure whether I want to be staying at a different nearby resort for that one evening.  Another option is to sleep in a room with one of our guests, somehow make by for that evening, even on a couch for a few hours.

Any thoughts?

Thank you.

oh no...believe it or not this is quite common when booking online.

you are going to need to check with the resort to see if it is even possible to stay with your friend for the night because there are occupancy limits and some do not allow 4 adults in a room.  Also, there will be extra fees incurred.

Another thing is, since you do not have a reservation until the next night, security may not even let you on the resort grounds.  AI's tend to have way tighter security and they have a list of guests that are checking in that day.

Did any of your guests book via a travel agent?  If they did, you can contact that agent to put your on the reservation BEFORE you get to the resort.

another option is to contact your wedding coordinator at the resort and see if there is anything they can do.

good luck!

That's horrible! I would call Expedia and see if they can help. If not, I would plan on finding a resort close by to spend the night at. I would definitely have a plan in place before you get there!

Wish I could offer more advice, but I agree with Tammy, unless you are a registered guest, you may not even be able to get onto the property. Good luck!

We had an issue with one of our guests...they booked in at our resort for 5 nights with a "sketchy" company online and were required to attend a timeshare meeting during their stay.  Long story short, they tried to confirm a couple of weeks ahead of time...no reservation!!!  This couple tried then to secure a reservation thru our TA, but she couldn't help as none of her suppliers had any nights available.  We even went to the WC for assistance.  No luck.  In the end, they went to a TA of a work colleague and she was able to get them on the resort for 3/5 nights...the other two they stayed in PDC.  My advice would be to talk to the WC at the resort and to try at least a couple of different agents and their suppliers...

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
