When to have Bridal Shower/Bachelorette Party??

Recommended Posts

Hi ladies! Looking for some suggestions on when to have my bridal shower (bachelorette party will follow that evening). It will need to be on a Saturday.

We are getting married January 28th in Cancun. We have about 65 guests coming along. There will be no at home reception. I will be having one large shower, inviting both families. Sorry this is long, but I am a visual type gal so I need to put the calender on paper :)

Here is what we have going on:

November
5
12
19-My Birthday weekend
26-Thanksgiving

December
3
10
17-Christmas Events
24-Christmas Events
31- New Years Weekend

January
7
14
21
28- Wedding Day

I think that October and November are too soon, since the wedding isn't until the very end of January. I want the parties to be fairly close to the wedding. However, we run into holidays in Dec. and Jan which is a very busy time for people. I also don't want the parties to be too close to the wedding as our guest are traveling a far for the wedding. I don't want to be more inconveniencing than necessary.

Any suggestions? When do people usually have their parties, roughly a month prior?? Any feedback you DW Brides have would be much appreciated!!

I like the list of dates!  That's totally how I visualize things too : )

Honestly, I wouldn't hesitate to have it one of the first two weekends of November, as the holiday season (early Dec to early Jan) is often super crazy for people.  Plus, if you live in a climate like ours, and have people travelling from out of town, my preference was that they not have to drive when its -30 out.  November 11th is a stat holiday here in Canada, which would mean for a lot of people they'd have a three day weekend that weekend...maybe you'd have more out???  But I'm not sure where you live...

I am also getting married in the very end of January............My wedding date is 29th January 2012...........I am also having both the parties, i.e Bridal shower and Bachelorette party on the very same day...........I am having both the parties very close to my wedding date........Just a weekend before my wedding........
If you donâ€t want that much close to your wedding date..............Then it would be good to have it 2 or 3 weeks before...........

I love how you listed the dates!  I need to do that too!

I would personally do it at the beginning of November, before it gets too crazy before the holidays.  Your wedding is going to come up super quick with all the chaos the last 2 months of the year, so I think it will still feel close to your wedding.

I would probably lean towards Jan 7 rather than november 12 because you'll probably be seeing all your same friends during your birthday weekend that you would for your shower and bachelorette.  Mind you, the same would go for New Year's, but it may come down to whether you want it early, or a few weeks before the wedding!  Let us know what you choose!

I would lean towards November.  We are getting married December 3 and chose to have our at home party earlier just to take advantage of better weather, to avoid the holiday craziness.

As a plus side, it has worked out so well, because now we don't have any of those activities to worry about or plan.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
