How to transport your wedding dress?

I have read a few ways to transport your dress. The one way is to ask the air line to put it aside in like a private closet. The only thing is I do not want to dry clean my dress at the resort I do not trust it will be okay. Any one else know of how they are transporting their dress???? Has anyone contacted the air line they have booked with too find out if they do have somewhere they could keep it without it getting bunched up or ruined?

There have been a couple threads on this topic and it seems like all the brides carry it on with them and ask to hang in closet. if the closet is full they store them in overhead bins. Hopefully, your resort will steam your dress when you arrive.

Yah I know  I read a review where a bride had her steam cleaned at the resort and all of her ruching was screwed up on her dress. It freaked me out because if they run it that's all you got.

That's all I've heard as well.  And if those are the only choices, I'd say try to get it in the closet (I'm sure it will come out less wrinkled then if you were to have it put in the overhead bins).  From experience traveling with a stroller, make sure that you get to the airport in plenty enough time and let the associates at your flights terminal know that you have a wedding dress that you would like to store in one of their closets if possible.  Be courteous and I'm sure they will take it on for you before they start boarding people or make sure they have adequate room for you in one of the closets (or they may even have a hook they can hang it on somewhere up front). Whatever you do just make sure you let them know BEFORE they start boarding and I'm sure they will try and do everything they can to accomodate your needs ...I know its different from a stroller, but I didn't check my daughters stroller, just asked politely if they could accomodate it somewhere on board (before they started boarding) and they did (even with 2 other carry-ons). It stayed up front (not in overhead) and was up front ready for me to take when I got off the plane.  I'm not sure if this is a common practice, but its worth a shot!

I agree with the posts below, I will add that when I flew to a friends wedding, the flight attendants were happy to accomodate.  Depending on how big the overhead bins are (usually bigger on charters) there is plenty of room to lay the dress flat unless its really full/lots of crinoline. That is what my friend did and her dress didnt require steaming once we arrived. She hung it right away. 

I travel a tonne for work and I have found the trick with airlines is to always be courteous and never seem whiny! they deal with some pretty annoying people so I have always found that if you brighten their day they are happy to accommodate!

I was in Cuba over New Years and saw someone travelling with her dress, there and back, she carried it on, it looked like no big deal. I assume the flight attendants stored it for her. To be honest, that is the least of  my worries right now, but I am probably behind most of you with the planning...

Mine was stored in the first class closet one leg of the journey but on the second leg, it was folded in the coat closet.  We were travelling along with all the 10/10/10 brides and had 3 on one flight and 4 or 5 on the second.  The flight attendants were happy to assist but were running out of room.  I had mine steamed at the resort and it was perfect.  I put it a checked bag that had my oot bags and fillers for the trip home and was thrilled not to carry around 2 dresses (wedding and ttd, in one dress bag).

Ok ladies!! I'm bringing this back to see if anyone has had any experience with US AIR!?!?!
