Hi Ladies!! Hoping you can help me out! I'm doing my own wedding day hair and makeup because I'm a perfectionist at both.  Anyways, I've been doing some research the past couple of days and would like some input.  What is the best makeup to use on my wedding day?  I've looked on Sephora's website and I've looked into MAC's products.  I'm probably going to have to go to both and just have a consultation, but I'd like some input from you as well.  So if you could please give me any advice, I'd greatly appreciate it! Thank you!! :D

I am in the same boat (for the make-up...will have resort salon do my hair because I'm hopeless at that sorta thing). I was originally considering MAC and stopped by, got some info and samples...I find MAC make-up really, really heavy. I have oily skin so I just couldn't stand it after 5 minutes, I wanted to wash my face again. For lipstick and eye make-up it may be ok though.

I've done A LOT more research, read some reviews, scoured the Sephora forums and am now considering "Make-up Forever" (MUFE for short). They sell it at Sephora and I haven't yet gone into try it but I know a girl from work who uses it and she says it's amazing (and she looks amazing) and is especially great for photos. So there's something maybe to consider. Would appreciate anyone elses input :)

I did my own makeup and my mom did my hair. I did a trial at Sephora and after 3 different looks which really didn't like, I finally said okay so I could get out.  I tried make up forever and I really like it, still wearing it 3 months later. Make sure to get a good primer to hold everything in place.  I am a MAC girl, have worn it forever so went in for a trial there and went with their look instead (just unsing MUFE foundation).  I did a couple of trials at home and I was very pleased with the outcome.  I looked like me but better which was my desired look (note "made up" like I felt at Sephora).  MAC will give you a list of everything and where to put it which is useful.

so my advice, get a couple of trials and make sure to do it at home.  Good luck.

I'm doing my own make up too and have been experimenting with a bunch of stuff from Sephora!  They're pretty good about giving you decent sized samples to take home and play around with to see how well it lasts on your skin and all.

Some advice I was already given at Sephora that may be useful to you (and some notes from me hehe):

  • Make Up For Ever HD foundation is better for oily skin (the formula dries very matte... looked a bit unnatural on me I found)
  • Smashbox HD foundation photographs very well (I ended up buying this and used it during my stagette so I can vouch for this on my combination skin type)
  • Skin primer will help your foundation apply more smoothly and help prevent shine as the day goes by.  This only works if you find a primer suited to your skin type though!  (I've been using Smashbox photofinish primer for years and can say it really does make a difference for me)
  • Eye primer will (in theory) help your eyemakeup last longer and prevent creasing.  (I'm still experimenting with this... so far I've tried Too Faced Shadow Insurance which has helped me a bit but I still dont feel like my eye makeup lasts as long as it could... going to try Urban Decay Primer Potion next as the two of them are the most popular)
  • Use a cream blush rather than a powder blush (i haven't tested any yet so can't offer my opinion... I have tried NARS Illuminator on my cheekbones though and it gives a really great glow!)
  • A setting spray will keep makeup looking fresh throughout the day (I tried out Urban Decay Dew Me a few times and have liked the result... of course, it is winter though and I dont know what this stuff will be like under a hot sun)
  • if you need concealer, use a brightening one (I absolutely love Benefit Erase Paste)

Any suggestions I got for eyeshadow were all over the place depending on who I talked to.  I find Urban Decay to be much more pigmented than MAC though... which means I can wear less of it and still get a great look.  More natural on me, but that could be different on someone else.

Eyeliners - try Urban Decay 24/7 liners or Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes liners.  I personally like the MUFE ones better (last longer on my skin type)

Mascara - I got suggestions all over the place like eyeshadow.  I think as long as you have a waterproof mascara you are happy with, keep using it.

Lots of info, hopefully some of that helps you!  :)

cookiemunchkin.....thank you so much for the information! This really does help! I think I'm going to take a trip out to Sephora today and see if maybe they can just do a consultation.  The only part of my makeup that I'm set in stone on, is my mascara.  I've been using Chanel's Inimitable Intense and it's absolutely amazing!!! Doesn't clump or flake and it lasts all day long.  Even if I sleep with it on, it doesn't get all over my pillow or flake during the night.  I love it!  I've also heard good things about the Smashbox and MUFE foundations.  I have some free time today so I'll just make a trip to Sephora and see what they say. Thanks again!

I have oily skin too, so I will try the MUFE foundation. My question is for eyes...I usually wear the bare minimum in makeup, and when I've had it done it MAC, it just looks a bit heavy to me.  Does anyone know of a place that does natural (but still stand out) makeup for eyes?  I've tried Bobbi Brown, and that was not quite enough.  Also, when you have a trial done at Sephora, do you have to buy the makeup they put on you? I know a lot of counters have a purchase minimum for trail makeup.

I'm really worried I might have to get my makeup done at the resort spa...scary not knowing what to expect!

I've read that at Sephora you pay $50 to do a full consultation, but if you buy any product that the $50 will be credited to your purchase, otherwise you loose the $50.  I have an appointment set for MAC on Thursday, but I'm really worried about it because I've never used any of their products before, and I'm really kind of gearing towards going with products from Sephora.  I don't know what to do worried2.gif  I'm loosing my mind with the wedding less that 2 months away and thinking about all the things that still need to be done!!!!

I am really perplexed with what to do with my eyes, too. I think I have the rest figured out don't really know what sort of eye "look" I wanna go for. I can't seem to find pictures of nice eye make-up. I think I will go to Sephora and pay for a trial so I can see a few things for myself. I refuse to get my make-up done at the resort salon!! I'm sure all resorts are diferent but I've heard that at mine they're not really used to applying make-up on fairer skinned ladies (and I am pale!) so it ends up being a bit harsh.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
