My first step into the World of Craftiness - Boarding Pass Invitations!

Recommended Posts

First off - I need to thank everyone in this forum who posted their instructions and how to's, it encouraged me that I could do it, and I think I did!

I sent out Vistaprint Postcard STD's (the star fish ones that are posted around here so often) but I knew I wanted a boarding pass style invite.  I thought I was really creative and unique until I stumbled upon this forum and found a wealth of information!

I had gotten a couple templates, but in the end I decided I would do it myself.  I googled images searched the heck out of boarding pass invites until I found exactly what I was looking for for inspiration, A compass rose. I came across a random picture and I loved the way the compass rose was part of the background, so i redrew it in Photoshop then added my own flourishes.  I also really liked the quote tha was on that original boarding pass I found, so I kept it.  "We love because it is the only true adventure"

My FH works for an airline and has always loved compass roses, I'm a avid outdoorwoman with a forestry type degree so they've always been a favourite of mine too.  Since i specialize in botany (and butterflies in my Masters degree) I knew I needed to incorporate that somehow too. I think the end result is very much us and came out really nice!  So I found a photo of an orchid and played with in photoshop to get the old worldy drawn on feel that the compass has. I then created the second page with travel information.

I'd love some feedback on the outsides.  I really didn't know what to do - the FH said just leave them, but that was to plain.  I only did these 4 (one of each jacket colour, various shades of green, the scrapbooking store didn't have enough of any one colour).

In the stamp set I bought that included the compass on the front, I thought it would be fun to stamp the back of the boarding passes.  I'm not sure if I'll do that for all of them though.

The colours from my camera might be a little off, the lighting is bad in here. I have larger photos if anyone is interested, I didn't want to overwhelm the page though. Cheers!

I like the two middle greens the best, but I think they all work well (in the picture of 4 the first and the third one).  I like that they're all different. :)

Thanks everyone! It was my first atempt to be crafty and to really put photoshop to use.  You should have seen me in the scrapbooking store though, I sent the lady a thank you card because she was SO helpful.  She knew I would probably never use this stuff again, so she actually lent me the paper cutter and the punches, which saved me a bunch of money.  She also offered to spend an afternoon cutting out the invites (and got about 20 done) for free.  If any Winnipeg Brides are attempting something like this, or like scrapbooking go see Marilyn at Scrapbookers Anonymous on Portage Ave. She was a lifesaver and went above and beyond.

Congrats - they look great!  I think the outsides are fine as is - you don't want too much clutter t take away from the gorgeous inside.  I did boarding pass STD and on the outside of my folder I put a compass also and "important travel documents enclosed."  Although it apparently caused some confusion with some people who expected actual tickets inside.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
