Has anyone heard of Hummingbird Hall in Montego Bay?

Recommended Posts

I came across a venue called Hummingbird Hall in Montego Bay and it looks so nice and intimate. I believe its a Jamaican house that they have converted into a place for weddings and events. You can stay there overnight or you can rent the house for your wedding day. I just wanted to know if anyone has gotten married there before or is considering this location. There is not much info on this place.

Hi lol

I'm actually getting married there and was looking for the same thing.

I havent seen it myself yet [3 months 2 weeks 4 days!!] but DH has family on the island so we sent his aunt to do a tour lol

I'm sooooooo excited!

The mansion was built about 4 or so years ago on the old plantation site of Rose Hall. I actually spoke to the wedding planner on the phone whilst my aunt was there and said I was a bit worried cos I hadnt read many reviews - so she gave me the email of a past client who
was American and v plzd with her wedding. vvv plz in fact.

My aunt had a tasting and said it was really good - and brought back a 3 HUGE sample cakes - chocolate w coconut buttercream, victoria sponge and jamaican fruit cake.

I cant wait!

My only concerns were:

1. The weather - they put up a marquee when it rains and I REALLY WANT AN OUTSIDE WEDDING so hopefully the rain wont fall

2. They dont take credit cards h/e my aunt in Jamaica looked the company up and all was in order (you can never be too careful!).

We signed contracts electronically 2 weeks ago.

They also make free wedsites - so currently working on that with them.

I'll keep ya posted

OMG I am so happy to finally come across someone who is utilizing this venue!! I have been debating between a resort wedding or going offsite...urgh. When I came across Hummingbird's website I fell in love! I keep coming back to it as an option. But I was so worried because nobody had heard of it and they only accept cash...so that was very uneasy to hear.

There were a few other issues I am a little worried about when I read through their terms and conditions. They said they can make changes to decorations without my consent or knowledge, they will not cut the wedding cake we would have to purchase another cake for our guests? (I really don't understand this policy, so basically I would have to purchase 2 cakes, what a waste?) I love the fact that they are located on Rose Hall Estate that location is so beautiful but I was disappointed to read that they only take the bride, groom and photographer down to the grounds for the pictures. I really want pictures with my bridal party and my two kids on the beach etc. that was one of the main reasons for doing a destination wedding( the beach pictures) I am wondering if that can be negotiated? My other concern is that I would not stay overnight at Hummingbird Hall so I would need transportation from the resort to Hummingbird Hall and that would be another expense....oh so many decisions!!

So sorry for the long tangine I am just so confused on what to do....

But thank you so much for responding:)

Hey,

Hows it going? I feel your pain!!!

I actually asked the same questions about decor and negotiated w them about the terms and conditions. I took out the bit about them making changes to the decor (they said it would be in case of rain and non availability of items - but i wasnt all that comfortable)... I also got the cake thing changed (my day MY WAY lol)... and added 6 more people to the golf cart tour (they charged extra but idc).

idk about the transportation thing though. i really didnt want a chunk of our budget to go to a mini bus...but I really want my guests to see more than jst the resort - it's a tough decision.

also where will u be staying? we are tossing up between ritz carlton and hilton. any tips?

I am looking at Iberostar Rose Hall Suites. So that is interesting that they were willing to take things out of their terms and conditions that you did not agree with. So just to clarify, Are they going to cut the wedding cake so your guests can have some? and you said you have to pay extra to have more people take the golf cart tour....if you don't mind me asking, how much are they charging you for that? I would have 9 more people(my bridal party) that I want to takes pics with.

I am taking a trip to Jamaica in May to do a site visit ( we have never been to Jamaica before) so I wanted to check out Hummingbird Hall on our visit, when I asked them if I could get a tour they told me I could as long as they did not have a wedding or event that day:(...so I am crossing my fingers that they wont so that I can see it for myself.

When are you getting married?  Are you having any entertainment...fire dancers etc? Are you using their photographer/videographer and DJ?

Debating between a resort wedding and an off site wedding is so hard because we are on such a tight budget! We have 2 small kids and need to buy a house so we are trying to keep our wedding costs down!! urgh....

Thanks again!

Sorry for taking a while to respond. My little one had the flu followed by me and DH.

Yeah - negotiated with them about the contract. Well actually said we'll sign if you remove 'x, y,z' and they did lol

Yes - they'll be serving our guests cake. We are having a dessert buffet, so the cake will be served during the buffet.

They charged US$20 per person for additional for the photograph golf cart ride but didnt charge for the kids who will be sitting on laps..

Our wedding is on March 5 2011 (really cannot wait!). We are having a soloist as we walk down the aisle but other than that, no entertainment except the DJ and my uncle who'll play the sax during cocktail hour.

I've done a 360 about their photographer/videographer.  Initially I was dead set on Michael Saab but he's kinda expensive... and more of our guests have RSVP'd no than we'd planned so we decided to use Hummingbird's videographer so it can be beamed live through the internet for our friends and fam bk home. We are using their photographer cos its easier more than anything and also cos the price was right.

It finally feels like it's all coming together though i really hate not being there! When's ur wedding?

Take care

x

Awe I hope you all feel better:) I am planning my wedding for July 21, 2012 but I have not finalized the date since I am not sure of my venue. I am visiting the island in May 2011 so hopefully that trip will confirm my choice.

Your wedding is not that far away! Make sure you post a review with lots of pictures. I am so looking forward to hearing how everything goes for you!!!

The ladies at Hummingbird Hall are lovely and their prices very competitive - but they do tend to spiral upwards if you deviate from their basic package.

We considered them at first but decided we wanted to go for a private villa for more flexibility. They are very happy to add and remove items from their standard package and I was so impressed by their customer service, I even asked Michelle if she could plan our villa wedding....she can't unfortunately but we are all sorted now :-)

Good luck!

It is on a very beautiful plantation you can take photos there after your wedding ceremony.  I went there to look at the venue for my wedding with my local planner, after going throught with them they sent me a quote then a few months after they sent me an email to say they have drastically increased their prices and it would affect be even though we did agree prior to this  So i change my location but it is a great view from there.

All the best!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
