Hi all, My finance and I will be getting married April 2015 at the Iberostar Rose Hall Beach Resort. I've always envisioned a laid-back yet elegant beach wedding, so I'm super excited! We'll have a beach ceremony at 4:30pm, followed immediately by cocktail hour for guests while we take photos (we decided to book with Saab Weddings--which I'm really excited about), dinner from 7:00pm until 8:30pm at the resort's open-air restaurant, and then the dancing/reception and maybe bonfire outdoors again on the beach from 8:30pm until 10pm (unfortunately outdoor festivities must end by 10pm at this resort) My question: is 1.5 hrs enough time for the dancing portion? I'm especially concerned because we'll be spending quite a bit extra to have a dance floor, DJ, bar, seating and decorations outdoors for under 2 hours. Has anyone had any experience with a "beach party" dance reception? We plan on doing traditional 1st dance, father-daughter and mother-son dances, but more than anything we want people to have a great time under the stars. I've been thinking about trying to make dinner just one hour, from 7pm until 8pm, so we could at least squeeze 2 hours out of the night. Unfortunately we can't make dinner time any earlier. My life would be much easier if I just decided to have our dance party at the resort's disco, but I really wanted a beach party and don't want to give up on that idea (yet). Any ideas/feedback would be much appreciated!

My FI is wearing this vest and pant combo with a white button up dress shirt for our beach wedding in Mexico. http://www.perryellis.com/suits-jackets/textured-solid-suit-vest/43HV5404PS.html?prefn1=refinementColor&start=6&dwvar_43HV5404PS_color=053&cgid=pevests&prefv1=Grey The groomsmen are going to wear the same pants with a white button up dress shirt, and we are planning to get them all suspenders. I'm struggling with what type and color of shoes would go best with these pants. I'd love for everyone to be barefoot, since we will be on the beach - but they will obviously need shoes for part of the day (reception and if the sand is too hot to stand on). I thought about suggesting they choose between sandals, boat shoes or loafers...BUT WHAT COLOR!? tan? beige? camel? I'm not super in to everything matching. The girls all picked their own coral dress and are getting nude sandals. Help!!!!!

So, I am going dress shopping (!!!) in exactly 2 weeks. My vision is to purchase this dress or a similar style. Our ceremony will be on the beach and I want to do the barefoot sandals. My fiance doesn't want to wear a suit - he's afraid of being too hot ( and I don't want to risk him looking sweaty-nasty in photos) so he'd like to have a more relaxed look. Do yall think this would look ridiculous??

Ok Brides, After Planning my wedding for 8 months, I wanted to share some info. There will be no name dropping but just a bit of insight and encouragement. If you are into hotel ceremonies and receptions bc you like it, then this post is not for you... no offense, truly. If you feel you have to have your wedding at a hotel bc there is no way that you can pull it all together, take a deep breath and know that - YES YOU CAN. One thing I like about weddings is not how good the cake is or what the bouquet looks like, all very important details yes, but your guests won't care, I promise What I like seeing is the couple's creativity. Their own little personal flair that is unique incorporated into their wedding. The thing you see and say oh my gosh that is so them! I have a friend who is a sous chef and for her table top centerpiece she had large vases each filled differently with asparagus, or some with slices oranges, then water, then flowers on top. her own touch. So to be told that if I have my wedding at a resort I will pay 3k-8k and they will take care of everything and in doing so I get 1 choice of their very limited options that are tired and worn out? No thanks. So upon my 8 months I have learned a lot. There are many many many options in Mexico to marry. There are even more to have a reception. I had been working with a venue directly, they promised me one thing in email. Not just the manager but the chef etc. I hired a wedding planner and she told me opposite. When things just didn't sound right from the wedding planner and the venue was telling me something else than she, it just got to be a big mess. And I had to just walk away. Did I really really want to have my wedding there? YES. Did I like my wedding planner? YES Did I feel that continuing to invest my time and potentially my money into either? NO. WC response was that it might be hard for Americans and Canadians to understand but the wedding business in Mexico is and I quote "cut throat" Do I want to give my business to cut throat people? Should I blindly just accept things that my gut instinct is telling me to be wrong just bc I think that my wedding has be perfect and held to someone else's standards of acceptability? I have looked at many these vendors, ones that have the big websites etc and you know what? They could not care two.... about me at all! Wedding ministers not responding, DJ's trying to hustle me for bigger packages, venues changing pricing etc. You know what my previous wedding planner told me? That my venue didn't care about what they agreed to and that if I didn't like the changes, oh well the venue isn't pressed for brides and doesn't need my business so I better just accept it. Oh yes. She did. That's not what I dreamed about as a little girl. And isn't it suppose to be our day? So with trusting my God given instinct and 29 years of experience I went in the opposite direction and I can not tell you how happy I am. I have found the most wonderful venue that is so friendly. Gives me all the choices I want. I can have a tab bar at the end of the night, I can have pre paid bar packages, I can bring my own liquor, I can, and I have created my own menu. I gave pics of the canapés I would like to have served and they have quoted me prices for those. They have beautiful furniture I can use at no extra cost. etc etc etc. In short- they rock. I have found an amazing wedding officiant, Petra Rattue (ok I named dropped but shes awesome) Yes I actually look forward to taking a walk to the local markets the morning of my wedding with my family and picking out flowers and creating my own bouquet. Something my previous wedding planner insisted I shouldn't be bothered with on my wedding day.I look forward setting up a couple table decorations. I look forward to it all bc it's what I want and it's my day. May not be what you want, but for me it's everything. But what do you want??? Did you start with a dream and now find yourself settling? Your wedding day is yours. I think vendors and wedding coordinators are awesome, if it were not for them we would still be getting married in our homes with no extras (totally acceptable too) but for the love of humanity, they need to be honest and held accountable. You can make your wedding day your own. Just follow your heart <3 Hope this has encouraged you. Lisa

Are any ladies having a rehearsal for their ceremony? I am having a beach front wedding ceremony with 2 young children involved. My wedding venue closes for the evening to all public and then one hour later our ceremony will start. I am wondering if that's going to be too short of time for everything to get set up and run smoothly. There is an on site wedding coordinator and what I have found is that she is very attentive, but I am wondering if I should do a run through the day before? My officiant is wonderful and I think she may have mentioned that I do not need to do a rehearsel but Im worried that without it the kids wont know what to do. We are not having a wedding party so it would just be the kids, us and my father who need to do the run through. What are you doing? Are you having a rehearsel?

Flipping the Proverbial Bird to Tradition by Miranda Lightstone When he finally gets down on one knee and pulls out that diamond-encrusted engagement ring you’ve been fantasizing about since you were a little girl and knew the significance of a diamond ring, it’s time to make a decision equally large as answering yes or no. Do you want a traditional, at-home wedding or do you want something a bit more unique, a bit more “out there”? It seems that choosing the “out there” option has become more and more popular, and for good reason. Destination weddings (or “out there” weddings if you will) are quickly becoming the norm over traditional, church-based ceremonies. Now, that’s not to say that brides around the globe are kicking religion to the curb, just that hey are are choosing to make their day even more special by making their wedding day an overall experience for themselves and all of their guests. Usually, a destination wedding refers to a wedding that takes place away from the area in which the bride and groom live. It could be another city, another state/province or even another country. Most think of a celebration on the beach in some tropical paradise, however, a destination wedding could take place in a castle in Ireland, a Masai village in Africa or even a whale-watching boat in Alaska -- it can be whatever your bridal heart desires. And that’s the beauty of it. Traditional weddings have so many restrictions: find the church, book the hall, find a DJ, make sure you have all the meal courses in order, don’t forget the wedding favors, and for God’s sake don’t forget to invite every single person you’ve ever met in your entire life. On the other hand, destination weddings let you be a bit more original, creative and free. A destination wedding ceremony can take place anywhere at anytime with anyone present (or not!). Destination brides also tend to take creativity and DIY projects to a whole new level. Because their weddings usually require guests to travel, OOT (Out Of Town) bags are the norm and usually contain anything and everything from hangover cure kits (for those all-inclusive resort wedding celebrations) to homemade wedding programs and fans for the wedding ceremony. DIY invitations and home-bought and prepared centerpieces and wedding decorations are also common. The atmosphere of a destination wedding is also much more relaxed. And really, how can you not be as you stroll down the white-sand beach towards your husband-to-be who’s wearing comfortable linen pants and a brightly colored shirt and sandals? And the guests tend to be much more relaxed as well -- there isn’t the pressure of a traditional wedding. You’re all there to enjoy the location, the atmosphere and the celebration of the marriage. Destination weddings also give friends and family the unique opportunity to get to know one another in a relaxed setting that lasts for more than a few harried hours. Spending a week together on the beach is a sure way to build strong family bonds and new friendships. Exploring and discovering a new country is incredible, and doing it with close family and friends makes the experience even more fantastic. A wedding is already a heartwarming event that’s sure to bring those gathered closer, but put the event in an exotic setting and the atmosphere of the whole ordeal changes entirely and becomes that much more intimate. And when it comes to cost, well a destination wedding really is the better option. Because you usually don’t have to worry about all the small details (DJ, flowers, hall, decorations), that means less to worry about on the budget side as well. For the brides who choose to get married at an all-inclusive resort somewhere down south, the cost is even lower. Wedding packages are often free once a certain number of people are booked at the resort for the wedding. Flowers, food, the officiant and decorations are all included in the package so the only expense becomes your ticket down there and your gown. Ah, the gown. There’s another interesting twist on the traditional. Destination weddings allow for so many different wedding gown options and wedding attire in general. Because you’re not bound to the church/hall set-up, your location choice greatly influences your dress choice. Getting married in the sand on a hot, Caribbean beach? Consider lace, chiffon and light, airy silhouettes. Getting hitched in an ice hotel in Sweden? Make sure you get a warm, fur stole and opt for a heavier fabric and skirt. The style options are endless. It’s not that traditional is passe, just that destination weddings are so much cooler -- especially right now. There’s so much freedom in how you want your ceremony to be, where you want it to be, how you want it to look and who you want to experience it with. It seems like a pretty obvious decision for future brides-to-be -- you may have that decision made before you decide whether to answer yes or no.

I would love to get married on Isla Mujeres, and am in dire need of some help! Is/has anyone gotten married at Privileges Aluxes or the Zama beach club? If so, I would truly appreciate a cost breakdown, and maybe the total cost (and number of guests) I am also interested in Moon Palace in Cancun. I am on a very tight budget, but these are my dream wedding places! Thanks in advance

Hello ladies, I have a question out there for Grand Sunset Princess past brides/future brides. I have been looking into booking my wedding at this gorgeous hotel for 2015. I noticed that there is the Sunset Gazebo (part of the Chillout area) & the Riviera Gazebo which is located centrally on the beach. Can anyone give me more information or details on the Ocean Front location. I can't seem to find any information or pictures or pricing. I'm curious and would love to consider it. Any help would be greatly appreciated and pictures! V

Was wondering if anyone had an recommendations on a event rental supply company in or around Playa Del Carmen? I have a catalogue from party planet their prices seem VERY reasonable, and then I have a catalogue from another place that starts with an A, and their prices are ridiculous! I am looking to rent some things, such as a large tub to fill with about 3 cases of beverages and ice, tall cocktail table and some lights, vases. Anyone have any recommendations? Thanks!

Hi brides! So question for all the brides in here... If you are doing a plated dinner and paying 100 bucks per head for 3 course meal and open bar, would you be happy with your guests ONLY being aloud to ALL choose steak or ALL choose salmon? I feel that it is horrible. I LOVE steak and salmon but some people can not eat red meat others don't care for fish. And every reception with a plated dinner I attended offered 2 options for a protein. I even offered to hand in total head count a month or greater ahead of time. But to tell me I have to select all steak or all salmon is absurd in my opinion. Like I said it includes alcohol a salad, main course. And dessert ( thAt I don't even want but can not change) Would you settle? The whole reason why I picked a private venue is because I wanted more options. I'm working with Grand Coral btw. But I might have to weigh my options... Thoughts? Thank you SO much. If you are not having your reception at a hotel please tell me where you are having it and what choices/prices you were given! I was given 500 rental fee and 1276 pesos per head! Even the kids who are not drinking and don't care for the first course etc. I want everyone to feel welcomed. And not having to turn their plates You can rent the facility for 2000 but I am pretty sure the menus they offer are preset and you have 4 choices. Thanks for reading!

Hi there! I'm newly engaged and in the very beginning stages of planning, we haven't even decided what year we are going to get married. I met my fiance while we were living abroad, so since we're not from the same place and flying within Canada is so expensive anyways, we were planning on having a destination wedding. I'm trying to come up with a plan A, which would be a resort wedding somewhere in the Caribbean with our immediate family (25-30 ppl including 2 kids and 2 toddlers) for which I was thinking maybe the Bahia Principe Akumal, and a plan B, which would be eloping somewhere exotic with only our two best friends as witnesses. Something awesome like in a rainforest in Central America or a bamboo hut in Thailand. We both don't want to have anything big or complicated, so simple package deals are perfect for us. I'm open to advice for either Plan A or Plan B. Thanks! Maggie

I remember reading that in and around Playa Del Carmen you can get married on any public beach and as long as you do not have chairs set up you do not need a permit for the government. Is it just chairs? So if You put tiki torches in the sand I understand you do not need a permit. Even if it is on a public beach, But then I have heard if it is a private beach you do not need a government permit and you can set up on the beach,, Does anyone know where you obtain a permit and such? thank you! I am beginning to think that I do not want the traditional wedding music during any part of my ceremony. I was thinking that since I am doing more of an intimate, and raw ceremony it would be really awesome to have conch horn blowing being done by possibly two people as I walk down the "aisle". There has got to be a way to find locals with experience that would be willing to help out! I cant imagine I would have to hire through and fire show company to find what I am looking for. Has anyone had any experience with anyone that could possibly be for hire? Thank you so so much! Lisa

Good evening brides! I am planning my dream wedding for January 31, 2015 at Now Sapphire in Riviera Maya Mexico. I was wondering if anyone that has had a sunset beach wedding would mind posting their wedding day timeline? Like for example this is kinda of we are thinking for our wedding in January. Ceremony starts at: 4pm Family pictures: 4:30-5pm Couple pictures: 5-6pm Cocktail hour: 6-7pm Reception: 7-9pm Party continues at the bar: 9pm-close This issue actually came up because my photographer asked about it. He wanted detailed times, like when the first dance will be and when the speeches will be given. I don't have those details yet and wondered how everyone planned their wedding day timeline? Is my wedding day timeline is reasonable? Please help!

Hello all and Congrats! When I knew I was going to have a destination wedding, I decided I would create a blog to capture my feelings, share ideas, and have documentation of my 1 year planning process. It's an exciting time and I'm really sentimental so I figured it was a good idea. I really did have good intentions. Unfortunately, I didn't realize how much time this process would consume and much of that time I was not just sitting twiddling my thumbs. I was researching, running around like a chicken with her head cut off, trying to keep the million and one fabulous ideas that popped into my head separate and retained. All of this was done while taking caring for others, taking graduate classes, and maintaining a household. Needless to say, the blog idea fell wayside, not intentionally. I find myself now less than two months from the big day- June 21, 2014. I'm anxious but regretful about not noting things like I wish I had. So I'll start but work my way from the beginning (June 2013, one year before our wedding) up to the present. First things first! Choose a location. We decided to have our ceremony in Punta Cana, one of our favorite places, I started researching places online and reading reviews, LOTS of research and reviews. I would suggest anyone doing a dw do the same. Believe it or not, some people don't! They choose a place purely based on price, the name, or pictures on the internet. I wouldn't recommend this, particularly if you have expectations. You need to get a composition book or spiral notebook and make this your wedding book for planning purposes. Grab a two-pocket folder and designate that your wedding folder to store things. This helps you keep all of your info and ideas together. You will have a lot, trust! These have become my best friends through this entire process. Jot down all ideas you have, whether you plan to execute or not. You may change your mind later and it's a pain if you don't have the website, info, number, idea or whatever. (You can thank me later about this ) Just remember to stay calm and don't get overwhelmed. It all works out in the end. Next, choose a wedding date. Now sometimes the date is chosen before the location which is fine. Whatever works for you, (not judging.) WE actually knew our date first because it has meaning for us. Luckily the resort we selected had that date available. But have a backup date just in case the date you want is booked already. In June 2013: Now as for me, I emailed & called (yes, I'm anal too), the resort and booked my own date with the wedding coordinator. You can also go to a travel agent and they will handle that for you. I discovered this after the fact. The travel agent will help you with group rates, booking rooms, and arranging travel with your guests. Oh yeah! ...Somewhere in there, we decided upon our wedding colors. I wanted turquoise. He didn't have a preference. So we are doing turquoise and royal blue, ocean and beach colors. This leaves us open to incorporate a pop of color if we choose. I'm happy and have found plenty of inspiration. At this point in the journey, I was so excited and hyped up that I decided to send out our save the dates (std's. I wish that abbreviation didn't remind me of diseases everytime I say or write it. EWWWW!). My fiance is really sweet and laid back so he let me have most of the say & he just co-signs unless he thinks it's a dumb idea or I'm going overboard. Then he'll speak up. We knew we wanted most of our guests to have enough notice to save money, make plans, take vacation days from work, or whatever they needed to do in order to be able to attend. We figured a year's notice was perfect (for us). I fell in love with so many invitation ideas. I narrowed it down to incorporating 4 things- some kind of invite/std in a bottle, a passport, a boarding pass, and a luggage tag. Basically I wanted to do everything except a traditional invitation. lol. I priced out invitations and such online and was blown away by the prices of these things. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Martha Stewart or master crafter but I am an elementary teacher! I'm creative and have been known to imagine and produce some pretty good stuff. So I figured, how hard could it be? I was a girl scout growing up and I spent my summers doing arts and crafts...I'll give it a shot and save some cash for other things. (Not tooting my own horn. I'm way more ambitious than I should be in many aspects of my life.) Okay, so once I made the trip to the craft stores buying materials, I ended up scratching the message in bottle idea due to mailing headaches. Cute but not ideal to send to guests & I wasn't spending a fortune for boxes and shipping. Remember, I was trying to save a buck or two. So I was left with the other three ideas. And we decided this would be it. The std was created with the help of my teen son who is a technology genius. We made magnet luggage tags for guests to stick on the fridge. They were in cute cards & envelopes with beach colors. We also made beach themed address labels and used post office stamps that said Celebrate. We had guests calling, texting, and telling us how cool they were as soon as they received them. YAAAYYYYYY! We wanted everyone to be as excited as we were so mission accomplished! After that, I created our website. I can't share it because it has our very personal info but there are some great websites out there that you can use. Many are free. Don't think you have to spend money for this. Our website is destination wedding beach themed and shares a welcome to the page note, info about us, our story, ceremony, reception, wedding party, info for guests about the resort, travel info including travel agent, pics of us, and a page for guests to sign in and leave messages. You make your page what you want! This is very helpful to your guests and saves you from numerous questions if you use it effectively and put most of your info on the site. Next was the passport invites which I actually designed online and purchased for a decent price. Our website url was included on the invite. They came quickly & we LOVED how they turned out. They look so much like a real passport! We mailed them out in September (9 months before) while rates were incredibly cheap. Used the same beach themed address labels but with a love stamp from the post office. I also created a boarding pass which was our rsvp. It was perforated so guests would tear part off, and return in the mail the same way a post card works. Well, the feedback was crazy about these! People were commenting about how we had the most unique wedding invitations they had ever seen, they were so original, did I buy or make them, if this is the invite they can't wait for the wedding... It felt really good to know my hours of hard working making them had paid off. Our level of excitement was transferred through the std & invites. I hope this for every couple. That your guests will get a feel of what is to come on your big day from your std or invites. In my opinion, it should be a little preview to create excitement. Well it's a lot I gave (4 months) at once but I'm playing catch up (with a little bit of time). Hopefully this helps somebody get started. Stay posted for more real soon!

For sale is a Maggie Sottero Adorae. This dress is Brand New!! Never wore other than trying one at the bridal salon once. Its absolutely beautiful. The only reason I'm selling is we have changed the location of our wedding and I've decided to go with something a little different. Label size is a 10 Street size is 6-8. NO Alterations have been done what so ever, and tags are still on the dress. I'm asking $850 shipping anywhere in the US included in the cost. I paid $1260 when I purchased it.

We were married in Mexico last May and used these cute miniature Adirondack / beach chairs as part of our cake topper. I've attached a pic of our cake so you can see how we set them up (would have looked better without the blobby icing flower between them! haha) They measure approximately 3" tall, 2.5" wide and 4.5" from front to back. Made of real wood and painted white. Asking $15 for the pair, but feel free to make me an offer. I'm located near Vancouver, BC but can ship them for you (shipping costs extra). Thanks! emily
