I am getting ready to plan my Wedding May 2017 and wish I had some advice for a beach reception! I am a little concerned about the lighting and saw that there is a 20x20 tent, but is that for a beach reception? Is one necessary or what is the best lighting option for the beach. Also, does the casino still exist??? I never hear any mention of it so maybe it isn't as amazing as I hope...

Hi everyone! I'm new here but have read many many posts about Cabo weddings! I'm currently planning a wedding for Cabo Del Sol with Yarai from Memories! I wanted to find out experiences from other about rehearsal dinners and after wedding day breakfast etc. My fiancé and I originally did not think about this aspect of the wedding but now that we are we don't know what a good option is for either! I would really appreciate any feedback and if you're a Cabo Del Sol bride any advice you have on keeping the costs lower would be appreciated! Thanks ladies

Hello All! New to the forum! I was recently engaged (12/23/2016) and I am now in planning mode! I never realized how much you have to decide on before you can even start to think about actual wedding things! Ahhhh! So we have decided on destination! Our family is all spread out and either way, a lot of people will have to fly to where we are located now, so we figured...why not! We LOVE Cabo San Lucas and have decided on Cabo for our location, but I have NO idea where to start on resorts. I am still in the very early beginning stages of this but already I'm feeling the pressure!

Hi everyone! My fiance and I are booked for our wedding at Azul Beach in April 2017. I am having a hard time deciding the DJ/Entertaintment. Lomas travel gives only two options DJ Max or DJ Mixx. There are no videos, reviews (that I can find) or information besides a list of equipment that they each bring. I emailed with them and they can't provide any sound or videos of past weddings they've done. I am super nervous about choosing one of them without having any references or ideas of what to expect. Does anyone have an insight on this vendor situation? I would so appreciate any feedback!

Hi everyone. I'm getting married in the Riviera Maya area in 2 months. Yikes! I plan to have a civil ceremony instead of a symbolic one. My fiancé and I don't mind the additional cost, but wanted to know if there were any brides who had a civil ceremony who had any issues once back in the U.S. specifically. How We Met So a bit of a back story on myself. I will cut straight to the chase by saying I has a life changing event when I was 25. I was planning a trip of a lifetime by myself, a cruise of the Greek islands and right before I left I woke up with a painful lump in my breast. Fast forward 6 months and I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. I went through chemo, radiation, double mastectomy and reconstruction surgery all within the span of a year. I was single at the time and while I stayed positive throughout everything I thought I would never find someone that would want to be be with me as I wasn't whole ananymore. It took seven years for me to work on building up my self esteem and self worth again before I was even remotely ready to start to date again. About 3 years ago I decided I was finally ready but didn't have I lot of opportunities to meet new people so like a lot of people now I went online. Let me tell you I met a lot of winners (and not the good kind)! I was just about to give up when Alec messaged me. He seemed so sweet and was so thoughtful about what he wrote and bonus he actually took the time to read my profile! He was and still is super shy but slowly he came out of his shell with me. He planned awesome dates, going to concerts, taking me to a boardgame cafe (I have a secret boardgame obession), going bowling, among other things. When we kissed for the first time it was magical. I know it sounds crazy but after the first few dates I knew he was the man I was going to marry. We both have the craziest things in common, the food we eat (cheeseburgers plain, meat and cheese, nothing else lol), we love hockey, we both love boardgames (even though he kicks my butt everytime), we both read up on movies after we watch them, I could go on forever lol! The Proposal So we had talked about marriage and went ring shopping in the Fall so I knew it was coming but didn't know exactly when. That day came on Christmas eve. He told me he chose Christmas because he knew how much I loved it and wanted it to be extra special. Alec is very shy and simple kind of guy so after I conned him into getting my gift early (eve instead of day) because that's what I do every Christmas. He grade my hand and hugged and kissed me lots and simply said I love you so much and will you marry me. It was simple yet beautiful and the best day of my life! The ring he chose wasn't one I had chosen but I'm so glad! He listened to everything I liked and chose something he thought fit the criteria which meant the world to me. Right after the proposal we went to my family gathering and it was so awesome to share the news with my family! I will never forget how I felt that night, I was on cloud nine. Let the planning commence! I was so happy just to be engaged but people kept bombarding me with questions , when are you getting married, where, etc and this was the night I got engaged! I felt super overwhelmed super fast. Saying yes was the easiest part. All I knew is I wanted a destination wedding. Finding a Travel Agent This was the easiest part for me as my Aunt is a TA. What I lo ed about this is the fact that I already had someone that I trusted with I feel is extremely important for a destination wedding. She always answers my emails and very promptly as well. Even if it might take her a few days she sends me warning so I'm not left hanging. Maybe it could be the fact that I know where she lives and I could hunt her down but I like to believe it's just her high standard of customer service. Picking the Resort The big thing for me was I wanted affordability without sacrificing quality in the resort. So my Aunt when immediately wentry to work and suggested 3 Mexico locations, Puerto Vallarta, Cabo, and Riviera Maya. She presented me with about 6 resorts in total with varying prices. Due to the Canadian Dollar taking a plunge the quotes weren't as cheap as I would've liked but in the end it was still way cheaper to chose Mexico versus a home wedding in Winnipeg. I within a week I narrowed it down to either Cabo or Riviera Maya. I ultimately chose the Grand Sirenis in Riviera Maya for a few reasons. They had a free wedding package, the resort was absolutely gorgeous, the prices for children were really reasonable and Riviera Maya was the only place I haven't been to in Mexico. Needless to say I was excited to say within a week I had made our decision (FI said whatever I wanted he was good with). Well I was excited until my TA came back and burst my bubble saying that Grand Sirenis has decided as of 2016 to eliminate the Free Package. I was devastated because we were on a tight budget I wasn't sure we could afford it. I immediately did up spreadsheet of all the costs so I would have a more realistic idea of the total cost because let's face it you have to pay extra for everything! In the end we were very fortunate that both sets of parents totally stepped to help us out which I'm forever in their debt. I was trying to previously plan the whole wedding ourselves without help except for the dress which my parents had previously said they would cover. Once the $500 deposit was paid to the resort and the $400 deposit for the Bride and Groom our TA's travel agency developed a PDF and a type of Web page on their site that guests can access to reserve their attendance. I have a lot more to write but time for bed. I will be back soon!

Hi everyone! Newbie here! I AM SO HAPPY THAT I FOUND THIS SITE! I was having such a hard time getting info on average costs for a destination wedding in the Rivera Maya, so I hope to get some feedback here! We're getting married in October 2017 with a group of 35-55 people. I have NO idea how much the average cost would be. We're planning our budget and I'm thinking 6k is good (for the ceremony/music/decorations/videographer+photographer] [PLEASE TELL ME IF I'M WRONG] I want a super simple wedding, nothing crazy. My main concerns are: -Photographer/videographer: how much should I set aside for these two? I don't want to spend more than $1,500. [if you have any recommendations, please let me know] -Outside vendor fees: which hotels/resorts have low fees? -Ceremony costs for 30-55 people -Florist: does the resort provide floral arrangements or do we come up with this ourselves? If so, what was your experience like? how did you do it? -Wedding planner: DO I NEED ONE? I LOVE planning stuff myself. But is it absolutely necessary to get a wedding planner? If so, how much does it usually cost to get one? Here are the resorts I was considering: -Valentin Imperial Maya -Las Villas Akumal -Excellence Resort Isla Mujeres I want a small/intimate hotel/resort. I stayed at Sandos last May and I HATED IT because it was such a huge resort. I want to keep it small and intimate. If anyone has gotten married/plans to get married at these resorts, could you tell me about your experience? OR if there are any resorts you'd suggest, please let me know! Thank you in advance!

Hi all, my name is Shakera. I recently got engaged in February. My finace and I have been together for over 3 years now. He flew all the way to Washington, DC from Canada, where I was finishing school and proposed to me. It is a day I will never forget =) For years we knew that we wanted to get married and when it happened it would be in Jamaica. I am Jamaican and all my family lives there--kind of a no brainer. We had everything planned so it is a matter of executing it. With all my family in JA and his large Canadian family, we knew that the resorts were not going to be able to accomodate our needs and budget. Shopping around we were proven right. After visiting Jamaica for a week and touring different villas we chose Laughing Waters Villa. The property is breath taking--has everything that we need: large garden areas, ocean view, large beach, waterfalls and most of all PRIVACY!! There was no need to go futher. The wedding will be on May 09, 2017. Being a weekday we get all the vendors esp. photographers for less. Just yesterday we booked our guests into the Grand Bahia Runaway Bay, 20 mins down the road from the venue through Ama Travel/ Air Canada Vacations. The most excting parts so far are completed-- found my dress, got our engagement photos done, booked the venue and hotel. There is still lots to do: STDs, invitations, finding a wedding planner, photographer, videographer....oh gosh Some days I feel so overwhelmed with all to come, but I know it will all work out. I hope to keep blogging and walk you guys through my experience of planning a destination wedding off resort. Congrats to everyone and happy planning!!! Shakera.

Hi Everyone- Getting Married At Sanctuary Cap Cana Dec 2017
CapCanaBride posted a topic in Newbies!!
Hey (or Hola) everyone I am new to this site and super excited because I just booked my wedding at Sanctuary Cap Cana. Is anyone else getting married there next year cause I would really love a planning buddie I have been engaged for over a year now and we finally set the date ( Dec 3rd 2017) and we are super excited My David actually proposed to me at Sanctuary last year and we fell in LOVE with the resort and staff. He created this romantic night on the beach had the photographer ready and actually serenaded me with a song and at the end asked me to marry him ( that's my ring in the pic ) I always wanted a blue stone with diamonds like princess Diana's ring and he got the PERFECT one... my birthstone and diamonds... The resort is actually a castle on the ocean (see i am kinda going with a princess kinda theme here LOL) common what bride does not wanna get married in front of a castle on a private Island RIGHT??? . We have not decided on our final venues yes but the Island is a top contender for sure. They told me when I booked my wedding last week that Brandon McManus from the Denver Broncos actually got married on the Castle Island after he won the Superbowl (how cool is that) Evidently they get all kinds of celebrities that stay there. Annnnnnnnnnnny way, next week I have my "stage-one" planning call with my coordinator to start my wedding workbook and I am nervous excited. Gotta make some BIG decisions for venues and my wedding package ect ect ect..I will let you know how it went I took tons of pictures of the Island and the resort when we were there, but don't know how to post them, can anyone help me pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! Oh before I forget, how soon did everyone get their dress??? I started looking already Send me a message so we can chat Excited Cap Cana Bride- 1 reply

I can't believe I'm less than a year out from the wedding! We booked it in March/April when they released the dates. We are having an embarkation day wedding on the Oasis of the Seas out of Port Canaveral on November 5, 2017. The ceremony will be held in Dazzles Nightclub. I have been lost in this whole process. I can't seem to find much information for what I'm looking for. I've been scouring the sites since we first booked and I feel like I'm being spun in circles! Things I'm trying to find info for (specifically for embarkation day weddings/Port Canaveral/RCCL): I'm trying to figure out a timeline for my wedding day (time to be at the port, embarkation, wedding time, disembarkation for non-sailing) Transportation for wedding guests from Orlando International to the hotel Photography - I don't think/feel like 3 hours is enough time for all the pictures I want done. I have a list of pictures and I'm sure the photographer will be (hopefully) creative and come up with another list. Can we get 'first look' pictures? Getting ready pictures? I know its a no-no to bring your own, but I can't help but think about it. Its a long story but after what had happened with my dad only a month after my sisters wedding pictures are very very important to me! Invitations - I am doing a traditional pocketfold invitation for the wedding. Has anyone done the traditional pocketfold before? If so what information did you include for your inserts? Are you willing to share pictures? I love the idea of the boarding pass/passport invites but I don't feel they are for us. Decorations - How much does the cruise line provide? Has anyone gone all out for their wedding? Is an aisle runner worth it? Beauty - Does anyone have any/Know of any hair stylists/makeup artists in the Port Canaveral area? I'm looking for someone who would come to the hotel the morning of. Welcome Dinner? OOT Bags? Flowers? Getting everything on the ship?

Hello! Not entirely sure where to start- I feel like I've looked all over the internet and have found limited information. I am a newbie to planning a Destination Wedding! We have selected the Luxury Grand Bahia Principe Don Pablo Collection resort in Runaway Bay, Jamaica as the place we would like to get married December 2, 2017. However, I'm hoping to find input on what other brides have chosen/ what they're doing for their wedding at this resort- or other Don Pablo resorts. We are probably choosing the Emerald package, but it's not set in stone. I'm really curious as to what the food options are as well as lighting/decoration/reception locations. I hope someone out there can help me ease my mind a bit!

Hi Everyone! I am totally new here and am excited to see if this site, the vendors, and all you awesome brides out there can help me out! My Fiance is seriously the prince charming I always dreamed of finding as a kid, he and I met and it was love at first sight. He quickly became my best friend, and now we are planning our happily every after! The only catch? I am having to plan the wedding and I am pretty much horrible at this so far. I usually love coordinating events, and planning parties, yeah this is nothing like that and I am soooooo stressed out! First off, how we met... [We both were seeing other people, both of us had been dating our ex's for about three years at the time.] I'll never forget the date June 5th, 2012. I woke up very nervous as I was starting a new job. I had finally got the call I was praying for the previous Friday, to start Tuesday in a new industry and to shed the waitress apron! to finally work towards my career! yaaay!! So I put on my little suit jacket, and hit the road with a new found confidence. I started work early so I could get the paper work out of the way and my new manager gave me the tour of the company. It was then that he had introduced me to my future husband. I remember it like it was yesterday and I hope the memory will stay with me forever; he was there strong build, dark hair, tan from the summer, and sitting at his desk doing his work. His hazel eyes looked so dreamy and complemented by his light green shirt. He stood up to come shake my hand and introduce himself and my knees went weak. (I know cheesy right?) He gave looked at me and gave me a side smile that made my heart just jump into my throat. we just locked eyes and he forgot to introduce himself so the manager said this is Dave, Dave meet Gianna and I swear I couldn't talk to save my life. I felt my face flush and get red and I just smiled and said hi. He played it smooth and as the manager and I walked away I was filled with so much happiness it was indescribable. fast forward a few weeks and started to talk to each other like normal people but were still very nervous around each other. Each of us having bf/gf that lived with us we just wanted this to be a friendship. It wasn't until he started saying that his gf was mean and almost abusive to him, that I opened up and let him know my home life was not so great either. My ex had actually started to abuse me, but as a child of abuse I thought I deserved it -- that it was ok to be held up by my throat against the wall and screamed at because I did something to make him mad--I've grown to know that no one deserves that treatment and have grown as a person. When things got bad at home for the both of us we would call each other and just talk out our frustrations. Then he realized he just didn't love the person he was with. He said so many times before that he never felt like he was in love. I had a particularly bad night with my bf and I called him crying saying how I was just beaten because I broke a jug of milk and I had had it, I wanted out of this relationship but had nowhere to go. He told me he broke up with his girlfriend and had been living at his brothers for a few days now. He came and picked me up that night and we never looked back on our old lives. He took me downtown (Chicago) to the Bean at around 1 am and asked me out in the park as a security guard tried to tell us to bugger off. we spent the night laughing and walking the streets finding secret places that I still have never found again to this very day. We watched the sunrise on lake Michigan by navy pier and just held each other. I felt like I was in a dream, that a real life fantasy was happening to me. I was in love with this man and he truly loved me in return. We had been dating four years when he finally asked me to be his wife. The Proposal....We were on vacation in Florida at his parent's beach house. We had been there since Saturday, the day was barely started yet but it was the following Friday. I had a slight idea that he might use this vacation to propose but then discredited it because we were this far in already. We were asleep in bed and he turned to me and gently shook me awake. He looked at me like a kid at Christmas and said honey get up, I wanna wake up and see the sunrise with you. Me being on vacation and loving the fact that I could sleep in replied, "that's ok honey I like my sleep" and rolled over. He laughed and said get ready and we'll go down [to the water] to hunt for sand dollars before all the old people nab em. I laughed and said alright. Since I was thinking I was only hunting for sand dollars I put my hair in a messy bun and threw on my new hoodie he had just bought me last night and grabbed a sandcastle bucket. (No makeup, no cute dress, definitely not how I thought I would have looked when he proposed to me!) So we walk down the boardwalk from our house to the beach and we see a little armadillo on the putting green of the golf course. Dave had been coming here since he was a kid and he had never seen one before. So we took pictures and went on our way. Once we were on the sand he and I started to walk alone to find the best shells and sand dollars. We got to be a few feet away from one another and he started to cry out, "sweetheart come here, come look what I found!!" I turned around and saw him bending over looking at the sand. Thinking he found some cool starfish or a crab or something, I came running up the beach back to him. "What is it babe?" I said and then he gave me that side smile that melted my heart from day one. He pulled a little brown leather box from his pocket and got down on one knee. The sun started to just break over the horizon and the sunrise was so bright red and beautiful. His eyes sparkling reflecting the ocean waves that were rolling in right next to us. He said, "I talked with your father and he gave me his blessing, Gianna ..... [my full name i don't want to put online] I have loved you since the very day I met you. You are my best friend, my partner, and now I want to ask you....Will you marry me? .....I swear to God I could not breathe.... I cried the happiest tears of my life, I hugged him and put on the gorgeous ring he slipped on to my finger and kissed him so hard we both fell over and just hugged and kissed passionately in the sand for a while. No one was around so it was very beautiful. (see what I mean, prince charming IRL!) Ok so flash forward to three months of amazing engagement bliss...and now the stress and reality of planning this wedding is slapping me in the face. Turns out that just about everyone I know at my work got engaged too, oh and they all got engaged a week or so after I did, and they have everything planned already, and are just sitting back enjoying things. Me on the other hand. I am tearing my eyes and hair out trying to find something in budget, awesome, and in Maui or an all inclusive destination venue. I know, what you are thinking, well temper your expectations and just get married back home... Well to be honest it is more of a savings to do it there and have a small wedding then the cost of one in Chicago. Oh, and I probably didn't mention. We moved to Oregon two years ago and all of our family is in IL still so they/us will have to travel anyway to be together on our wedding day. Might as well have it where we would like, on the beach just like our engagement?! Wedding stuff: Budget, our max budget is 7000 for ceremony, reception, food, bev costs. at the most we are thinking 60 people and at the fewest 25. We don't mind getting married on a knoll since we would like to have chairs for our guests to watch the ceremony and the law doesn't allow for chairs in the sand, but we need to be able to see the ocean and have a stunning view. The reception; we would like to have an open bar, Dave also works in the wine industry so we could potentially have a good hook up to bring our own if the venue allows it. I have called multiple wedding coordinators for assistance and I have been referred to Gannon's and Mulligans so far. Gannon's seams pretty and we put a date on hold but they only allow dancing for one hour!!! Two hours at the max but the second hour is an additionally $500! YIKES! Mulligan's on the blue is pretty and allows for live entertainment and dancing into the night, but is not on the beach --at least from what I can tell in the pictures so correct me if I am wrong! The price per person for food looks to be in the 40 per person or less range and the 12 or less per person for drinks. If anyone has other suggestions please, please, please send info my way! Thank you so much to anyone willing to read my story and even more so anyone willing to help a girl out! Best to you and yours! Gianna

How We Met Andrew and I met online early summer of 2014. Our initial conversation started with our likes for rivalry hockey teams, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Boston Bruins. From there the conversation kept flowing and we went on our first date in early July. We continued to talk and go on dates over the next couple of months until we made our relationship official in August 2014. From there the rest is history ♥ The Proposal Every year we make a trip to Florida and stay in Indian Rocks Beach. This time we traveled with another couple (Ellen and Tyler) at the end of March 2016. Ellen and I being typical girls we wanted 'cute and coupley' sunset photos with the boys. On Sunday, April 3rd we finished dinner and walked down to the beach just in time to get in some good photos of the sun setting. Andrew and I took a few photos standing on the beach with the sun behind us, and then he said 'Let's try one more (pose)'. Then he got down on one knee in the water and I immediately started blushing and crying because I was so shocked/happy/surprised. After Andrew gave his romantic spiel and asked me to marry him, I said of course. Travel Agent/Picking a Resort We knew that we wanted to have a destination wedding right from the get go because we are beach bums and love the sun/water. Neither of us have ever been to Mexico, however it seemed like the perfect place for our wedding! The next thing on the list was to find a travel agent. I had been told to shop around for an agent for pricing and most importantly the person knows what they are doing/is easy to communicate with. We went to a local mall and popped into Flight Centre, they directed us to a nearby mall where their group travel specialist was located. Instantly we clicked and my finance and I knew we would be going with this agent based on her knowledge, experience and how helpful she was. The next step was choosing a resort, we wanted the resort to be affordable, yet still nice. We weren't very flexible with our potential wedding dates because the best man is a teacher and it is the only time he could take time off work to come to the wedding. After looking at quotes and reading (wedding) reviews we were sold on the GRAND SUNSET PRINCESS. On May 5th 2016 we put our deposits in for travel May 17th - May 24th. Our guests had the deposit deadline of July 13th to guarantee the rates given by the TA. ....More to come

Hi everyone! I currently have the Grand Sunset Princess booked for 2017 and I'm just looking for suggestions/ recommendations. The ceremony is going to be in the ocean gazebo and ideally I'd like to have a private beach dinner and reception depending on price. If anyone has pictures to share that would also be amazing! Thanks in advance for the help! [emoji4] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hi everyone! We are getting married at the Grand Sunset Princess in May 2017! We were considering bringing our centrepieces down with us (to save money since centrepieces are so expensive at the resort). We were thinking a simple mason jar with flowers? Not 100% sure yet. I'm wondering if anyone waited until they were at the resort and go into the markets or Walmart to get centrepiece decor? I'm just trying to decide if it would be easier to get it there or just check an extra suitcase and pack everything in there! Thanks!!
