Pros: Cost effective, Amazing resort
Cons: communication

I married my love at the Suites on March 23rd, 2011. We arrived on March 18th and most of our guests arrived in the next few days which was good because it gave us one night to relax just the two of us J

Check in/ Room (A-)- We arrived at the hotel at  about 5pm, so our room was ready and waiting.  Our travel agent had upgraded us to a ocean view suite (although I was hoping for overbooking and a upgrade to the grand lol) which was incredibly sweet of her! We weren’t greeted with any drinks but I guess if that’s the least of my troubles I can’t complain!  There was a fruit plate and bottle of wine waiting in the room.  The room was nice but it had a faint odor to it, my hubby didn’t notice anything so I let it go and by the next day I smelled nothing.  The view was amazingly beautiful we could see the ocean as well as the pool areaP3170051.JPG

Wedding Coordinator (B+) We had a meeting with Nicole the next day. I only have two complaints. 1)  I had asked for a guitar for my father to use at the ceremony because he was going to sing and she had said no problem. When we got there it was a problem and he had no guitar. If we would have known he would have brought his own. He still sang but with no accompanimentL.  2) I had put in the details I wanted a videographer which we did NOT get! Thank GOD my brother in law had surprised me by saying he had bought a new video camera to tape the ceremony!

I would just suggest to make sure you have detailed list of what you want when you sit down with her and go through it carefully then there can’t be any miscommunication. I would have found my own guitar had a known but I suggest to all brides, since this was an out of the ordinary request, to try to get out of the norm request done on your own before hand so you don’t have any surprises.

Food (A)-  We had the reception at the gourmet restaurant calabash which was amazing!!!  The guests had there choice of all there entrees (fish, lamb, tenderloin). The food was soo good. The wedding cake was amazing as well! Since we had about 60 guest we had a three layer cake. Chocolate, rum cake and strawberry cheesecake mmmmm!

We tried almost every restaurant. Make sure to get to the Japanese in the beach resort if you can just for the experience. The cook the food infront of you and get all the guests involved while they do it! Lots of fun! We also enjoyed the steak house and the Mexican. The Mediterranean restaurant not so much. The buffet never disappointed they had a wide variety of things and fresh squeezed juices that were yummy!

Drinks (A+)- They had almost anything you could think of! I was trying new drinks pretty much all week and all were quite good! We paid for one hour international open bar for the cocktail hour and they gave us free open bar for the whole reception!

Service (A)- The hotel staff were sooo nice an accommodating. Since I had so much family staying there and a lot of requests and was at the desk everyday and we never had any issues.

Spa (B-)- The free couple massage was amazing, I was so relaxed. I give a B- only because I got a French manicure the day of wedding that chipped off before the night was over. Message and other spas services were amazing!! I wouldn’t suggest getting your nails done there if you can help it!

Make up (A++++) I was debating for the longest time if wanted to do my own makeup or use a makeupartist. In a few days before I left I decided I didn’t want to do my own so I did a search on face book and found Tamika nelson who was amazing. She did my sister and my makeup for $160!! If you do use her just make sure to get her there earlier. We were a little late because she was finishing up. But I can’t knock her because she came all the way from

Kingston (4 hour drive! ) to do it. She was super sweet and I loved the look! I wanted something more dramatic than I would normally wear and it looked pretty hot. Check her out on facebook!!!!

Wedding (A)- Amazing!! The setup of the ceremony area was beautiful, reception beautiful! Calabash had a great size dance floor but the lighting was a bit dim in some areas. We held the ceremony in the area next to the lazy river

Taiflora (A-) – I would have given a A++ but they were horrible at getting back to me. Make sure you get in touch with them a few months in advance because I had a horrible time with them getting back to me in the few weeks before the wedding. However the flowers were beautiful!!!! My sisters and my bouquets were gorgeous !!! I really wanted something nice for the centerpiece so I went with the trumpet styles centerpiece. I kept debating if I should or shouldn’t because it was only one day but decided “hey you only get married once” so I got them and I don’t regret it. We also rented table clothes from them and the room was sooo nice I just kept staring at the setup thinking “I LOVE IT”.

Congrats Rosemarie and your husband!!!! You looked absolutely gorgeous! Everything looked perfect!!!!! Your review was very helpful!!!! I just had a few questions about the reception at the gourmet restaurant. Nicole quoted $400 for it. Do they have to put a special floor down or something? So it's the DJ $350/hr + $400 (floor) +$800 (making rest. private)???? Do they really end/kick you at 10:30 pm????

Hi pintsize1! If you use calabash you won't need a special dance floor. the restuarant already has a really nice mahogany and cream colored floor.Once i get home tonight i will add the picture of what it looked like so you can see. I paid for private recpetion (800) plus dj (450 i believe it was more then 350 because i had him for the entire reception). we got kick out a little after 11 :( I wish we could have kept it going till 1!

Congrats Rosemarie!! you look beautiful... if you dontmind, how much were your centerpieces? I am splurging on my centerpiece also, just havent gotten my quote from Jodi yet. I would like to have an idea of how much for the large/tall centerpieces.

Hey mrsdeloatch2be,

The centerpieces were 100 each! she said they could do a smaller version for 85 but REALLY loved those!. My flowers came to $1800 (7 trumpet centerpieces, 2 head tables arrangements, 3 mother of bride coursages ( one for my grandma) flowers for me my sister flower girl and husband and best man, table cloth rentals) taxes were like 450 thats' what brought it upto 1800. hope this helps!

Hello pintsize1! You looked absolutely beautiful! I loved your dress and the wedding looked amazing. I'm getting married at Iberostar Rose Hall Suites on October 22, 2011. Did you do a welcome reception? If so, where and did you have a DJ?

Hi Tkorengay727! i didn't have a welcome reception because my guests were arriving pretty staggered but i know mrs smithtobe did and i believe it was just at the lobby bar? They have entertainment (singer/ piano player) everyday evening there. If you want it to be private you could use the lobby terrace and there would be plenty of space for the dj to setup there and it overlooks the pool area which is goregous! It all lit up at night. I also saw some use the terrace for there reception as they only had about 15-20 people.

No problem mrsdeloatch2be! I know i really wished more brides would post dollar amounts so i could get a good idea of cost! I was also pretty well on my budget which made me feel pretty good ;) lol

Jones did you get your bridal bouquet done with Tai Flora as well or did you use the free one offered by Iberostar and then added in the orchids etc?

Link to comment

Hey Islandgirl910,

Yes my bouquet was done with Tai Flora so paid extra. It costs extra if you don't want the tropical flowers or i believe just red roses?

The color of roses is in the wedding details package Nicole sends. Sorry can't remember off hand

What a great review! Thank you for sharing your experience with us! I'm having a difficult time to with Tai Flora. I'm in two weeks, and she's taking forever to send the final quote. I'm still not sure if I pay them directly, and how, or if I go through Iberostar. What did you do?

Link to comment

Hi Julie,

I paid them directly by credit card the week before i left for Jamaica. I didn't want to bring that much cash as we already had to pay the photogrpaher in cash. I had the hardest time gettting a hold of them as well. When it got to the last few weeks before my wedding i just told the wedding coordinator i was having trouble getting a hold of them and then they seemed to get back quickly. Another good place is floral fantasies they get back quickly. I didn't end up using them however because i had already gone through so much over last few months with Tai flora and didn't want two florists showing up the day of the wedding lol

Julie: I paid my deposit to Taiflora by making a deposit to their Bank of America account. My advice is to call Jodi. That is the best way I am able to reach her. If you email her it will take forever to get a response from her (if you get any at all). As for remaining balance, I plan on paying in cash to avoid paying the additional 4% charge from the vendor and on top of that, my credit card company charges me another 4%, so I would be paying 8% in additional fees.

Jones: Your pictures made me defintiely want to get rose petals for the aisle. Everything was just really pretty. Thanks for sharing.

Rosemarie, quick question. Since you had your reception at Calabash, how much decorations did you use? Do you have other pictures of the way you had the restaurant decorated? Just in case we have to have our reception at Calabash instead of Aunt Ruby's, I just want to know what types of decorations are worth buying/bringing and what are not. Would paper lanterns work or not?

Link to comment

Hey Island girl,

Nope we didn't use any other decorations excpet the center pieces. The ceilings are very high and don't have anywhere to hang lanterns. We had brough some with us but couldn't use them in the room but with the centerpieces and tealights it was more than enough for decoration.I don't really have to many pics of the reception yet. i am hoping i can get some from the photographer once i get those pictures.

Rosemarie, it's me again lol. What time was your reception over? In the Suites documents I see two different times. One says 10pm another says 10:30. Can you verify? Thanks darling.

Hey Island girl!

It finished just after 11pm. I believe the actual time is 10:30 but they late it run a little later :) I just got some of my professional shots i will add some pics of what calabash looks like this weekend :)

Hi jonesr1979

Ok I have a few questions..:)

What time did you start your ceremony? Did you do a cocktail reception in between ceremony and reception while your pictures were being shot? Since you did a private at calabash what time did your reception start? Did you have options on if you wanted round tables? and a small table for you, your husband and two guest? When you got booted out at 11pm did you just retire for the evening, or do something else with your guest? Your pictures are beautiful.

Hi akamikey11,

Our cermony started at 4:30. We had a cocktail hour right after cermony at the same site as we took our pictures. reception started at about 6:30 we had an option of square or round tables and we had a small table for us as requested (me my husband, maid of honor and bestman). Some of guests went to the disco but we went to bed we were tired! lol Thank you!!!

Hi Rosemarie!

I can't seem to find the post about how far the bar is to Calabash. I'm asking because I wanted to skip out on the open bar if it's close enough or if we tip the waiters well they'll hook us up. =) What do you think? I know you got it thrown in. That must have been great for you!!!! I have about 50 guests. =)

Thank you!!!!

Hey pintsize1,

Sorry to say but there is no bar close to calabash! the closest is the pool bar which will be closed and the next is the lobby bar which is all the way upstairs. We paid for the cocktail hour so guess if you do that they throw in the free open bar for reception? I am not really sure how they made that decision! lol
