First off, our photos came out great, which is really the most important thing. But email communication was frustrating. At first, emailing with Dean's wife, Anna, was easy... she was really sweet and prompt. But after she had her second baby, my emails would go a week without being responded to, if at all. And her emails were just RUDE. Short, snappy, not helpful at all. I get that having a kid and a newborn is tought, but this is your family's livelihood... either lighten up or hire an administrative assistant.

For this reason, planning what time Dean should show up at the hotel was horrible. I asked Anna for suggestions but didn't hear back. So coordinating what time the hair/makeup team should get there, what time the guys should get ready, and what time Dean should get there wasn't done properly. Dean got photos of the guys getting ready but none of me or the girls getting ready. Disappointing.

But during the wedding, Dean was great. He was engaged and social with our guests but faded into the background when he needed to (I don't even remember him taking photos at the ceremony). He was very respectful and patient when speaking with us and our guests. And the time we spent taking photos with the wedding party after the ceremony was FUN!

We booked a Trash the Dress shoot with him a couple days after the wedding. Going back to the poor communication... getting info from Anna about how to get from Cancun to Playa del Carmen for the shoot, what time to be there, where to go... it was like pulling teeth. I like planning ahead of time, but we had to wing it. She just wasn't helpful in this planning at all.

But the TTD shoot was REALLY fun, one of the highlights of the whole wedding week. I was afraid that the pictures would just be mediocre. I saw amazing photos on his website, but I was thinking "oh, he just puts the best pictures on his site. Ours won't look like that." But they did! They were amazing. And shooting them was so much fun!

After the wedding, I communicated via email with Dean's assistant Sam. She's the sweetest and replied to my emails in 1-2 days. I paid one of my payments a couple days late (completely forgot about it), but they didn't care. They're flexible. Sam sent us teasers in the weeks after the wedding, which was almost cruel because we wanted to see more! Our pictures were about 2 weeks later than promised, but there was a reason why. And Dean told us ahead of time what the problem was and that they would be late. I appreciated his honesty, and that he'd rather deliver the photos late than let the quality suffer. Plus, even though they were late, we still got our wedding pictures a lot sooner than most other couples.

Overall: the photos on Dean's website are a good indication of his style. If you like the photos on his website, then you'll be making a good choice picking him. But everyone is looking for something different in their wedding photos. I love how ours came out, but it doesn't mean that Dean's style will suit everyone. If the communication with Anna had been better, I would have given 5 stars.
