Pros: Great ceremony, reception, service
Cons: Communication can be rough, beds were super hard

I typed a huge review on trip advisor but cannot paste it on to here. Annoying BDW.com!

We got married May 5th at the Ocean Gazebo and had our dinner in the Ibiza gala room. Everything wedding wise went off without a hitch once we got there. Loved it! Didn't bring any decorations or pay for flowers for our reception or ceremony (just for the bridal party) and it was beautiful.

Their DJ was great, Monserrat and her team ran things smoothly all day and night and the menu we chose was tasty. Our vanilla wedding cake was delicious, and I don't even like cake!

Costs in USD:

Ocean Gazebo set up: $250.00 SO WORTH IT! It was all white, truly gorgeous

Ibiza room rental: $150.00

Resort DJ: $650.00

Cake: $6/pp

Hol box menu: $57.00/pp

Hard liquor we had to buy in Playa: $150.00

Photographers: had to pay $200.00/photographer since they were not from the resort

Out of resort guests: $95.00/ each plus meal at reception

Wedding Coordinator:

Our original WC Aracelli went on maternity leave 2 months before the wedding, she was good at communicating while we had her. Monserrat took her place and was pretty good at getting back to us....

She never provided a run down on how the day would look, who stands where and does what etc. Maybe I am expecting too much but I was under the impression a WC is supposed to help you plan this day seeing as it is usually your first time hah.

When the 30 day payment deadline hit, I did not hear from her. I emailed a couple days before, the day of payment being due, and a couple days after. Never thought I would have to chase someone to give them my money! Eventually she responded, took payment and everything was fully booked.

I did not hear back from her the week of when I asked a couple important questions... that was frustrating and left me concerned. She couldn't meet us until the day of our wedding which made me nervous. It all worked out just fine thankfully!. I could tell the WC's were always super busy.

As many sites suggest, bring down all email communication/signed contracts etc to cover your butts in the event that information is mixed up or lost.

Rooms:

Ocean view platinum suite on Riviera side: good over all, disappointed I could not see the ocean on the top floor due to the very tall tree growth in front of us. Wifi worked fine in the room. Housekeeping did a great job.

Our king bed was terribly terribly hard and uncomfortable. I slept on the couch a few nights... we both came back sore and exhausted. I even own a firm bed at home because I usually like it that way.... no bueno on beds GSP :(. For this reason alone I won't go back, which is very sad.

Other guests room experiences:

Main floor Deluxe rooms smelt musty/like cat pee.

Laguna villa's were nice but bug issues due to being on still water.

Booked king beds and were given 2 doubles. Bit of a hassle for those guests since they were all tall people.

Being Platinum:

It is nice to have priority check in, your own concierge, private platinum pool and bar, free wifi and access to all of the restaurants. It is frustrating when you dad who isn't platinum wants to come visit you and they say nope you can't come in to her room. Just make sure your bridal party can come in the day of! My girls paid extra to make sure there was no issue so I did fine there.

Buffets:

My husband and I travel to Mexico twice a year. Always to 5 star all inclusive resorts. We have found that the buffets are ALWAYS repetitive and not strong on the flavor side. This is to be expected! They have to feed a ton of people from all over the world. Nothing new here folks! The cool part of GSP's buffets is the grill where you can select a raw T-bone steak, prawns, chicken etc depending on the day and have it cooked and seasoned in front of you to your liking. The buffets were huge, lots of fresh fruit and veggies and dessert and meat and carb options. Delish.

A la carte:

10 restaurants to choose from if you are platinum, some are just set up in the buffets (only did 1, fondue...not very great).

We enjoyed a different a la carte every night. Book when you arrive, and just show up if they say it is full. Every time we went the restaurants were always 1/4-1/2 full. Super frustrating but we have seen this trend at other resorts.

Service:

Great everywhere except the Mexican restaurant for our rehearsal dinner. We tipped everyone well, and I wasn't wearing any bling other than my wedding ring. Maybe they treat platinum members different, but our wedding party was several colors of wristbands and didn't seem to have issues during their stay.

Beach/water:

Gorgeous, some rocks when walking in to the ocean but hello mother nature! Not GSP's issue/fault.

Grounds:

Extremely well maintained, super slippery when wet. All the walking around is great after eating and drinking too much, but bring super comfortable shoes/sandals.

SPA:

AMAZING! Hands down. Great facility, service

Hi there!!

Thank you so much for the great review! I've finally found someone who also selected the Ocean Front gazebo! (I'm booked in for May 26, 2015). Would you by any chance be able to send me a few pics of the ceremony set up? All I have to go on is the tiny pic on the registration form and I just want to get a sense of where it is on the beach, and how it all looks! My email is nikkicraig10 [at] gmail.com. I would be so, so grateful.

Congratulations on your wedding! :)

Nikki

Thanks for the review! We are also getting married at the Grand Sunset a Princess and I am appreciative of any reviews or input. We chose the sunset gazebo. It was difficult to tell the difference between the sunset and ocean from the small pictures provided.
