Pros: Great beach and location on the Zona Hotelera, good for a Catholic wedding, location, afforadable for many guests, great party atmosphere
Cons: Some rooms are in pretty bad state, not romantic, loud, small pool

We got married at the GCR 08May2014 at the chapel and had our reception at the sunset terrace.

Resort: B+

This resort is an average 3 star resort.  It is a medium-large sized property with a very nice beach front. We got the Gran suite oceanview room, which was nice and spacious. It certainly has potential to be a 4 star resort, but you can tell some of the rooms are falling apart and maintenance just cannot keep up anymore. I have been to some of the lower category rooms since some of my guests have booked those, and they are not as nice. Some of the bathroom shelving is about to fall off, the couch is stained, and the windows aren't very clean.

During one of the days we stayed, part of the ceiling fell and our floor got flooded. Apparently the pipes broke overnight and the ceiling gave way. So at 7:30am we told the concierege about the situation, then he called maintenance to fix this. We stayed in the room while the workman fixed this for about 15mins. He said he needed to come back at 9 because he didn't have all the materials to do his work. We frolicked in the beach while they did repairs in our room. This is one day before the wedding. I was trying to stay relaxed and not lose my temper over this incident. After he was done repairs at around 11, you could not tell that there was a gaping hole in the ceiling just a few hours ago. We still had to wait for housekeeping at around 12 to clean up the flood.

The pool is also very tiny for the size of the resort. It is always very crowded and really noisy at lunch. It is a very lively place, but not very relaxing. If you're like me who prefers the ocean to pools, then you wouldn't mind this.

Food is mediocre and gets repetitive.

Staff: A

The redeeming quality of this resort if really the staff. They make you feel at home and are very helpful. They always make sure your glass is never empty, and when you look lost they ask if they can be of assistance. My sister lost her wallet and we left a few gift envelopes on the table. Security had kept the wallet safe for my sister, and the server at the buffet caught up to me to return the forgotten envelopes. Staff is amazing!

Wedding coordinator: A-

My wedding coordinator is Flora. She was helpful with all my questions and replied in a timely manner. My only issue is that she did not coordinate with the outside vendors very well. My florist had emailed her some questions and she did not reply until 1 day before the wedding! Here I am one day before the wedding playing middleman. As a coordinator,
I felt that she should have taken care of those details, instead of arranging everything myself. We did pay the $350 vendor fee after all. She also gave me a few wedding things right after the reception was done. I was very exhausted, and thought it was just a tad inconsiderate especially because I was going to meet her a few days after the wedding to pick up some reception leftovers.

She was good at directing people where to go and what to do.

Ceremony: A+

It was beautiful!!  Everyone liked the whole ceremony. The priest was very helpful.. We met with him a day before to discuss some details.

Our WC and the priest gave the wedding entourage some instruction on where to go and what to do 30mins before the ceremony, so you really don't need a rehearsal dinner.

Cocktail hour:B+

Kept people busy while we took pictures. There weren't enough servers to get everyone drinks. The appetizers were good. They were not prepared to serve 70 people. Some people didn't know there was food (I still can't figure out how this happened).

Reception: A+

The food was ok. Nothing stellar. We got the beef medallion and the chicken. They served the food well. We did not have to worry about timing, The cake was very good according to our guests. Don't get the mango float au tequilla for dessert unless you want mango gelatin.

The party after that was great. Thanks a lot to the DJ, he kept us dancing all night. We picked most of our songs and the planned the programme, and he followed it very well.

The drinks were flowing, so the bartenders were doing an awesome job.

We told everyone they could hang out at the bar lounge after the reception, which was big enough to hold our party.

Extra fees:

I would like to add that almost anything extra you ask for has a fee. Down to what kind of "standard" chair you would like to reserve. Also they charge you so much for having your outside vendors join the reception ($80 per vendor on top of the vendor fee).

There were a few hiccups along the way but the wedding day itself was great! If it weren't for the Catholic chapel, and the kids (under 16) in our party, I would have picked other resorts. We did not get any bonuses or discounts for bringing them 70 people. Probably because they have local clientele keeping them afloat anyway. Other resorts offer special discounts or group rates.

I wanted to add the Spazul ladies did a wonderful job for hair and makeup, especially Alma! She is great with hair and receptive to modifications on the work she did. I have small Asian eyes. I asked her to make them look bigger.

Did you guys have a block of rooms? We get a free room for every 15 rooms booked. We are staying at The Royal, but being a sister resort i would assume it's the same perks.

Thank ou for your review! its great :) what was your food menu? what was the flavor of your cake? :) do you have pictures? :)

No, we did not have a block of rooms. When I asked about that, my WC told us to find a travel agent who could offer it to us. The resort doesn't do it.

Hello... thanks for your review, it really helps me.. im getting married here in July and I am getting very nervous because i have a lot of trouble with my wedding consultant, she takes forever to answer my emails and It takes a long time to get questions answered. When did you start communicating with your WC that was actually onsite with you?

another question i have is did you all get to taste the food on the days before? or did you just choose without tasting?

which DJ did you choose?

sorry for all the questions lol ....thanks
