Pros: Beach Front Wedding, Family Friendly, Tulum Ruins
Cons: An hour from airport, front desk check in unorganized

I got married at the Dreams Tulum on July 5th, 2011.  We did the Ultimate Wedding Package.  We had 32 guests.  Beach Front ceremony and reception.

I'll start from the beginning.

We used a travel agent who went through Apple Vacations to book the wedding.  The transportation from the airport to the resort was through Apple.  They were waiting there with a charter bus to take us to the resort, there were no other passengers other than the ones from the wedding, it was great.  It took about 45min to an hour to get there which didn't seem long at the time.  I was very worried about this going into it because we had some guests who were worried about safety but that was not an issue at all.  Apple also provided the transportation back in vans because we had guests with different flight times.

Once we arrived, this is my biggest complaint of the whole trip.  We were greeted with champagne and warm towels once we arrived which was nice.  But check in was VERY disorganized.  Dreams had a promotion going on that for every 5 rooms you book, you get one free.  We had two free rooms which was a great deal (all the rooms were nice, no matter what level)  but also with the promotion, for every ten nights booked we got a free upgrade.  Well that came out to 7 upgrades for us...we only got two.  The communication is very poor, and they are not willing to accomodate.  The second upgrade didn't come until the third night.  The bride and groom get a free upgrade too, which was a perk.  Also, my husband got a free room for the night before the wedding, no questions.  The front desk staff was the worst part of the trip.

The pre-wedding communication was a survey that you fill out a couple months ahead of time.  Be sure to write exactly what you want, I had some questions about centerpieces that I thought could be worked out once I got there, wrong.  I ended up with one centerpiece, the included one in my package.  I didn't really care at the time, because I was having so much fun, but if this is important to you, make sure you explicitly state what you want.

The girl that did my hair and makeup was FABULOUS!  I was very worried about this too.  But my hair and makeup looked the best it ever has, I added some mascara and eyeliner but the rest was awesome!  I felt so pretty.

My guests had an amazing time while we were there.  The beach was a non issue for all of us.  It is a little rocky in some places but a beach is a beach.  We all got in the water and had an amazing time.  Some of my guests participated in the free sailing lessons, there was beach volleyball which was fun too.

The wedding was perfect.  We did the beach wedding with beach reception and I wouldn't change a thing.

We hired an outside photographer, even though the hotel photog came free with the package.  I HIGHLY recommend this.  The hotel photog came during the reception and took pictures as our photographers (del Sol) were leaving.  We looked through the hotel pictures afterwards and had a hard time picking 50 because a lot of them were out of focus, or just not very good pictures.  Here is a link to the slideshow from del Sol photography:

We love our pictures, I still look at them at least once a week.  I recommed del Sol, they are the best photographers hands down.

My favorite part of the whole wedding was the DJ.  We hired an outside DJ Doremixx.  If you splurge or save your money for anything it should be this.  Ivan, our DJ, made the party.  We got the light up dance floor too.  They played up to date music and ask for a list too if you would rather make your own mix.  The reception was so fun thanks to him and his team.  They handed out glow sticks and masks at one point and everyone went CRAZY, it was so fun :).

The food looked pretty good, and tasted okay.  Not the focus of the night for me and I wouldn't complain about it.

This is everything I remember, since it has been a few months.  I loved my wedding and I wouldn't change a thing about it.  Dreams was perfect for me and my guests.  Some things went wrong, with the rooms and stuff but overall everyone had a great time!

Looks great!!! It's making me super excited for next month. Even happier to see your pictures as we have Del Sol booked as well. But maybe I'll send an e-mail to the conceirge before I go to try and make check in a bit better.....

Hi there, i was wondering , did you use the videographer that came with your package? and if so how was it? I am getting married at the dreams riviera cancun in feb and am very nervouse about using their videographer. I am flying in my own photographer though. Any tips you can give me would be awesome.

The videographer came with the package and was supposed to be a 30 minute video. The one I received was less than 20 minutes, and the first 5 minutes was a generic scenic view of the hotel, so really only 15 minutes of actual wedding footage. Some of my guests were disappointed because the videographer left before everyone had a chance to say something on video. I only had about 15 couples there, so this shouldn't have been too hard. I wasn't impressed. I'm glad I have the video, but I would not pay extra for this service from them.

Thank you soooooo much for this review. Your pictures look amazing! I have to say I was so undecided as to what resort to get married in and looking at your pictures made me want to get married at the Dreams Tulum. My fiancé's best man is a DJ and is going to be our DJ so I was a little sad when you said your DJ provided the light up dance floor. I would have looooooved that floor!
