  1. We use Kate’s Travel (katestravel.com) she was AMAZING! Our guests loved working with her and she got us some great rates.

Here’s the website she created for us: http://tomandamandagetmarried.com/

Awesome. For my wedding last year i got all my credits as well. I would recommend that resort for anyone planning a destination wedding. And I def would tell all brides to use a travel agent as well. I used Destination Weddings and they were great

  2. so we did a thing  - we got married yesterday at the courthouse. just us and 2 very close friends. it was everything my FH could have ever wanted, it was lovely and simple - perfect. We leave on Monday for our Mexico wedding celebration set for Friday May 11. We have 60 amazing friends and family traveling to celebrate with us. I'm really glad we decided to get hitched stateside first, it takes a ton of pressure off the day in Mexico.
bags are almost packed and the hubby and I are ready to spend 10 days on the beach, relaxing with friends and reconnecting before we come back to our crazy lives.
Stay strong DW brides - it all comes together

How did it all go while there@tandagethitched

  3. anyone not use the free semi-private event included in the package? or better yet, not a host a formal welcome dinner?

The free semi-private event is maximum 50 guests, but we have 62. So either we host the event on a different day (Wed or Sun) when fewer guests are at the resort, or we exclude people - both options feel crappy to me. So after talking with FH and MOH and a few other friends - we're deciding to scrap the semi-free event all together. Yes, it's a perk that get, but who cares.

Instead, we're going to have an informal cocktail hour at one of the resort bars on Thursday evening. This lets our guests stop by if and when they want. I know this sounds 'cheap' and we should really spend more to make their travel to Mexico worthwhile, but some guests are only there for 3 days, and I feel like a jerk if I schedule dinner Thursday and the wedding is Friday, that only leaves them Saturday to enjoy their vacation and do their own thing.

. No, I used mine for my rehearsal dinner so it was very intimate with about 30 people

  4. Fear not, I believe Javier is your on site coordinator!

Javier was the coordinator for our wedding last year. I worked with him for about a year prior to the big day and I had the opportunity to meet him when we arrived at the resort.

I think there was a shift about 2 years ago that moved planning away from Miami and into the hands of each resort instead.

With that said, there is an on site team that handles the actual set up so you will be handed over to them once you arrive.

    . Perfect

  5. any other April or May 2018 Azul brides out there? We're quickly approaching the "100 days to go" mark and suddenly starting to feel a little overwhelmed with the planning we have left to do, but it's mostly the little things, of course!

Does anyone know the timeframe when Karisma transfer the wedding from the Miami WC to the wedding team at Azul? We're still communicating with Javier, and he's been pretty good these past 12+ months... just wondering when they transfer.

Things left to do... that I can think of right off the top of my head:

    • wedding band for FH
    • list of songs for the DJ and the ceremony
    • witness passports and legal documents
    • final payment on the hotel
    • dress alterations (scheduled)
    • find bridal accessories
    • find shirts for FH and BM
    • finalize gift bags for guests - WIP
    • communicate week of / day of timeline to guests
    • organize all my communications with Javier so I can easily reference
    • book flights for my mom and FMIL (they don't fly and are panicking about flying out of the country)
    • probably a dozen other things I'm forgetting!

anyone else feel like sh*t is getting real?

. Wow I’m surprised that you haven’t been in contact with your wedding coordinator at the resort as of yet. You may want to ask about that. For my wedding last year, I was in contact with my coordinator a year and a half before.

  6. Yes I did pay the vendor fee because I wanted what I wanted. I also paid it for my photographer as well. I didn’t mind to pay both to get what I wanted

@@Sweetness14 - awesome! did you have to pay the outrageous $800 outside vendor fee? Can you share some photos of your flowers?

Also - who was your WC?

    thanks for sharing!

Here are a few pics. The flowers when they were delivered were not fully opened up but opened up all the way by the time the ceremony started. post-287907-150842659609_thumb.jpgpost-287907-150842660595_thumb.jpgpost-287907-150842666142_thumb.jpgpost-287907-150842667323_thumb.jpg

  7. hi friends! Looking for a bit of advice on flowers! I'm wondering what others have done or are planning to do... We need 1 bridal bouquet, 1 MOH bouquet, 2 boutonnieres, and 2 corsages for our moms... so not a lot of flowers, but enough that it is causing some stress. (flowers & centerpieces are my two *road blocks* right now...)

Lomas' floral pricing is high and nothing on the site really 'wows' me. Well, there are a few, but they are, of course, the $350 bouquets. I just can't justify that cost, especially since I can bring the flowers home. http://www.weddingsbylomastravel.com/planning/bouquets.html

    • If you ordered from Lomas - was the quality worth the cost? did anyone have a bouquet custom made vs. ordering one of the standard options on the site?
    • For those who did fake flowers - where'd you find the stems? how'd you pack them to ensure they didn't ruined during travel?
    Thank you!!!

Hi, Lomas Flowers are beautiful I saw them in person but I also found them outrageously over priced. I used and outside vendor for my flowers. Maya Floral and I didn’t regret it. They had wonderful reviews and were easy to work with and way cheaper than Lomas.

  8. Has anyone planned a wedding over 100 people at the Sensatori? How did it go? I'm getting a lot of pushback from the staff about what venues I can pick and I'm getting frustrated. Looking to do both the ceremony and reception outside.

Hi, yes I had over 100 people at my wedding back in May. I didn't have any issues

  9. ok - a moment of joy... my dress arrived!! (6 weeks early). I went shopping in June and after 5 stores, finally found what I think is the perfect dress for me. It's Mysteria, from More Lee's newest line and I love it. It's not quite as 'beachy' as I was initially looking for, but when I tried it on, I knew the search was over. I picked it up, and it's currently stored in our spare room, as I wait until January to start alterations. I may have to move it to my MOH's house - I keep wanting to re-try it on :)

Just wanted to share some exciting news!

That's amazing. It looks great on you. I live lace lol

  10. I'm interested in hearing thoughts on welcome events (past & future brides)!

Our wedding is Friday. Most of our guests arrive on Wednesday, with about 20 arriving on Thursday. We were planning to use the semi-private dinner at Spoon for a Welcome Dinner on Thursday evening. but we have 60 guests and the maximum guests for that semi-private event is 50. (FYI - the maximum guests to keep the semi-private "free" is 40. but the event maximum is 50 ($25/pp after 40 guests)

We have a few ideas and I'd love some feedback/past experiences!

    • host event on Thursday and limit the guests invited to 50 (exclude 10 people from the event) and use semi-private (pros - "free", cons - excludes some guests)
    • host event on Wednesday, 20 guests don't arrive until Thurs, so the total would be 40 guests (pros - free, cons - excludes some guests)
    • book a separate cocktail hour - I'm think the S'mores on the beach (pros - intimate and private, cons - adds extra $1000+)
    • plan an informal gathering at one of the other bars - people can come and go as they please (pros - no extra costs, cons - doesn't feel very special)
any other ideas/thoughts/concerns? My FI thinks an informal meet up at one of the bars is "just fine". I lean towards a dinner on Wednesday + informal meeting on Thurs

    THANK YOU!

If you were having less guests I would say the dinner would be fine but for the amount of guests your expecting I would say do something simple, causal. I did the S'mores party on the beach. I rented and amplifier so that I was able to play music. It began to rain so it was moved to the Mexican bar and it was perfect because the bar was right there lol. Drink and shots were flowing. Everyone laughing and taking and taking pics. It was perfect. I had my photographer come to my welcome mixer to capture those moments as well

  11. Have you thought about just getting some throws and laying them out like beach towels? Could create a very cool, relaxed vibe.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

. that's actually a great idea @@chelscbs. Make the S'mores Party your own. When I had mine, no one was sitting except for the few elderly guests that I had. I payed extra to have an amplifier there, so I plugged in my IPod to have music playing and everyone had a great time just drinking, eating and having good convo

  12. Thanks @@Sweetness14! I swear, every other email from my WC reminds me of the pay deadline and you're right, now they're telling me not to worry about it until the wedding builder is all updated. Why are they stressing me out over it?!?

. lol I have no idea. My wedding coordinator never mentioned my deadline. I made some payments prior but the balance was the day before once everything was added in for me. Don't stress too much about that.

  13. ooohh - what options did you select? how many guests did you have? I didn't see a pick and choose for the cocktail menu - what'd you have?

My only concern with Pick and choose options is the # of guests and that 1/3 have special dietary needs. Quite frankly - I don't know if I want to manage the menu selections :)

. I had 114 guests. I chose to have a private reception in the ballroom. The pick and choose option was offered in the banquet kit. Can't remember everything but I hade seafood ceviche, chicken skewers grilled scallops and 2 or three other items

  14. hi fellow brides!

we have 10 months to go and suddenly I feel like we have a lot to get done, but I found my dress last week, so I'm feeling really good with our planning! We just sent invitations and so far we have 30 guests confirmed and about half our room block booked. We are expecting a total of 50-60 guests.

Question for past brides or upcoming weddings regarding menus..

cocktail reception - what menu did you select? We're looking at the Mexican Fiesta - anyone else book this?

dinner reception - what menu did you select? We're looking at the BBQ Deluxe - anyone else book this?

Appreciate any feedback/info on the menus would be greatly appreciated!!

. Congrats on finding your dress. Wish I could give you input on the food options but I went the pick and choose options for both my cocktail hour and reception. I had multiple horsd'oeuvres and 3 meal options for dinner

  15. Hi UKbride. Good news, I think there must have been a miscommunication!

I married at the Azul in March and had 16 guests. We ended up using the ballroom instead of Plaza Zavas due to questionable weather but I brought sheers, table runners, chair bows, fans, candle holders, etc. and was charged $250US for setup.

$2000 does not seem right. Maybe there was some confusion and they quoted the rentals AND setup instead of just setup.

Hopefully, an email back to clarify results in a much lower price for you. Please note though that I don't think they commit to a setup only fee until you are on site and they've had the opportunity to review all of your items.

    Good luck with your planning!

. You are correct LeanneP. You won't know the exact cost of the set up fee until you actually meet with your coordinator and go over all the details. $2,000 definitely sounds like an error or it's for the total of rentals as well

  16. Hi ladies

I fly from the UK to marry at sensatori on July 26th, my wedding planner is Claudy, I have asked to bring my own sheers over for the gazebo

And for plaza zavos as I think 100 for each sheer is very expensive but the set up fee I have been quoted is $2000, is this correct as the sheers themselves if ordered through the wedding planner are $1000

. How many guests will you be having? I'm not sure if that is correct or not. Do you have other things that need to be set up? They take into account a few things for the set up I assume. My set up fee for the entire wedding was no where near that and I ha 114 guests

  17. Hi ladies,

Could any past brides provide me with their experience on their wedding in Mexico. For instance the resort they chose as well as pros and cons. I am so overwhelmed and I do not even know where to begin.

    Thank you!

. My experience with having my wedding in Mexico was awesome. I would do it all over again. The pros is definitely the cost and having those who mean the most to you have a mini vaca with you. I felt like I had a 4 day wedding because of all the things we did. The con for me was bringing all those suitcases because I bought all my own decor except flowers

  18. HELP!!!!!!

i was wondering if anyone knows of all inclusive resorts in riviera Maya or Cancun that has options for beach receptions? i have been researching resorts for a couple weeks and its overwhelming!!!! i am looking at a resort that has some nightlife, we just recently went to iberostar in Jamaica and it had no night life what so ever. i have been looking at breathless, barcelo bavaro and Riu, which i couldn't find that any of them offer beach receptions. thank you for the help!!!!!

    danielle

. Congrats Danielle. I would suggest you work with a destination wedding travel agent to elevate the hassle of looking yourself. I was doing that at first as well and it was so overwhelming like you said. Once I found a travel agent that specializes in destination weddings, everything became a breeze
