  1. Hi Ladies,

We are pretty sure this is where we want to get married September 2017. Super excited. We are pretty sure we will go with the Emerald Breeze package but I have a question regarding dinner. It says that the package includes 3 hr private dinner. This may be a silly question but do they charge you per head for the food or is that included when it says "private dinner"? I wasn't sure if it meant that its just giving you the space to eat privately or if its all included?

    Thanks in advance :)

From my research, I think it includes it for the guests up to a certain number. We are doing Caribbean fantasy and I read that we have to pay 60USD per head above 50 guests. I'd just email the coordinator.

  2. We are getting married in April 2017 at the Sandos Caracol Eco Resort in Riviera Maya. They have a rooftop terrace you can have your ceremony and reception at. We have chosen to have a beach ceremony but we would like a private reception so we are going to have our reception on the private rooftop terrace :)

  4. I have a brand new with tags ivory wedding gown. It is Sophia Tolli "Jillian". Absolutely stunning fit and flare gown that flatters many shapes and sizes.

The store where I bought this convinced me to buy bigger than I needed to be safe and now I need major alterations. I have since found this dress in a smaller size that works which is why I'm selling get this one.

Paid 1875 Canadian and looking to get 1600. Located in Edmonton, AB. Willing to split the cost of shipping

  5. HI @@tpenner just looking over your message from earlier this year and noted that you'd received a hair and makeup quote from us. In the event you have not yet selected a hair and makeup vendor, I thought I'd bring it to you attention that we now have another brand we've recently started called La Bonita, it's also part of Styling Trio. Where the packages and pricing may work better for what you're looking for. If interested in learning more you can contact sales@stylingtrio.com. HAPPY PLANNING!

I have already booked with someone else in the meantime.

Thank you so much @@tpenner for responding with all of these details! so sorry it took me long to respond - my daughter is teething and has had a cold so it's been a rough week to sit down at the puter...

We too are going with the Caribbean Fantasy package. I am aiming for the gazebo but really like your point of not seeing/using the natural beauty of the beach/ocean which was always the plan while searching for our destination we always said on the beach, so who knows this one might change still. I really do love the gazebo though, it is so unique! Do you know how many guests you can have at this location though? We are inviting approx 80 people (not sure how many will come but I suspect at least 60). The resort asked if we would like 4pm, 5pm, or 6pm for our ceremony. We chose 4pm as that's what my fiance wanted - personally I was thinking 5 would be better, it's so bloody hot out still at 4 lol I'm gonna be a mess! Maybe another good reason for the gazebo to have some guaranteed shade.

I haven't seen any photos or good information on how the reception is set up on the beach, have you?! For now, we are moving forward with planning for the rooftop terrace. But there are so many details to figure out for the reception like table settings, centerpieces, flowers, etc. I'm trying to figure out what I will bring with me for our own set up or what we will pay the resort to do. I haven't really seen examples of what they can do for centerpieces etc. (can't get over the upcharge for every little thing like even a napkin ring holder!!). I've heard of other brides (other resorts) bringing their own materials for centerpieces, their own table runners and other decorations. What are your plans for that?

Also will pay for the extra hour, I can't imagine shutting the party down at 10 - and as far as I've heard the resort DJ is just fine for the event so will be going that way. I haven't even begun researching photographers/prices - amazing that it's cheaper for you to bring them with you from Edmonton (we are from Winnipeg). So hopefully I'll get to see some work from the resort photographer soon so I can move forward with planning on that front.

One of my bridesmaids is a hair stylist so I'm super lucky in that regard. I think I'm going to give the resort salon a try for the make up application. I think that if I really don't like it, I'll wash it off and do my makeup myself.

Have you decided on buffet or plated dinner? how about your colors/theme?

    talk soon and thanks!

Wow..it's even a long time since I've been on here!

So I was able to send an email to the coordinator and ask some questions. Good news! They aren't charging us anything extra to have our reception on the rooftop! I haven't put any thought into the buffet/plated dinner.

As for colors, we are having an aqua green and coral.

I feel like planning is at a standstill until we have to figure out the details.

  7. Yup! My best friend/ bridesmaid literally just popped out a baby and are scared she will get Zika and it's going to be in her system for the next baby so she bailed. Ugh! I'm pretty sure every bride that wants kids is in the same boat!

  8. I know that part of having a destination is accepting the fact that many people won't be able to come. I am having a hard time accepting and getting over the fact that some girls that I consider my best friends are not coming.

I've told my friends even before I met my now fiance that I would probably have a destination wedding. All my best friends said they'd be there no matter what.

L who said she would be a bridesmaid is not coming now. She sent me a text saying she is scared of the Zika virus (she's not pregnant and won't be pregnant at our wedding).

S who also said she would be a bridesmaid hasn't called me to tell me that she is thinking of conceiving. I heard this from her L who is her sister. We are 10 days from our deposit deadline. In fact, I have not heard a word from her since the day I asked her to be bridesmaid.

T was a maybe. She said the trip would cost a lot for her husband and their 2.5 kids. Then she said she would try really hard to come on her own or bring her mother in law. A week later she said no.

I know cost is a big factor whether someone decides to come or not. I know what my friends can and cannot afford and they can definitely afford the trip. It's disappointing when I've put lots of effort into these friendships. I've been to engagement parties, bridal showers, stagettes, weddings, baby showers, babies birthdays and more babies birthdays, housewarmings. And now that it's my turn, they can't be bothered. In my opinion, their reasons just aren't good enough for me to accept. I get that S might be pregnant by then, but tell me that yourself. If I lived my life in fear like L is, I wouldn't have driven down the highway 3 hours multiple times for her major life events. I'm probably more likely to get hurt in a car accident than she is to get the Zika virus! T just solidified my theory that if you're not in the baby club like she is, that you're not worthy of her friendship. I've been the one keeping our friendship going since she's had kids and I'm tired of being the only one picking up the phone.

So now I am definitely reevaluating some friendships in my life!

  9. We wanted to be budget friendly for our guests as well and we went with Sandos Caracol Eco Resort. One of their wedding options is the rooftop terrace which overlooks the ocean as well. While we have chosen a beach ceremony, we are most likely using the terrace for our reception. The cost for our guests from edmonton is 1735 pp based on double occupancy. for Dec 1-8. Apparently they do some pretty great weddings there!

  10. We wanted January 2017 and wanted our guests to pay less than the other 2000 in the Mayan. Best we found was Dec 1-8 at Sandos Caracol for 1735 from Edmonton

  12. Here are my details so far:

We chose the Caribbean Fantasy package because we wanted to have our ceremony on the beach. After some thought, we decided that we would really prefer to get married right on the beach. The gazebo is very beautiful, but in pictures , it seems to take away from the beauty of the actual ocean...in my opinion anyway. I want to change it up with the reception and have it on the rooftop terrace, but if that's too expensive or not available, I'd like to have the reception on the beach. I really should get into contact with the coordinator about this. What option did you pick? I would love to hear all the details and maybe I'd get some good ideas.

As for vendors, we are most likely choosing to bring a pair of photographers from Edmonton. We love their work and we get a lot for what we are paying (engagement shoot, wedding, and rock the dress the day after) all for the cost of bringing the 2 of them which is 1735 a person, plus they have actually photographed a wedding at Sandos before. I've priced out photographers down there and anyone we liked were a little higher than we wanted. It's pretty much due to the exchange rate.

I've gotten some pricing for hair and makeup too. While I would've trusted the spa to do my hair, I was a little uneasy about makeup. One photographer we initially were looking at warned us about "cultural differences" that can sometimes make rhe bride come out with a little too much makeup, foundation lines from mismatched color, etc. I've gotten quotes from styling Trio, Backstage hair and make up, MVP, Yucatan Hair/besos brides and I have found Yucatan to the most affordable for myself, bridesmaids and mother.

Hmm...what else...we definitely want a dj that will stay until 11pm and I'm OK with whatever resort dj they give us. We also have a request page on our wedding website so we will have an ipod with a bunch of songs in case the dj has limited selection.

This turned out to be really long! Sorry!

  14. My wedding is in May and I'm using Fine Art Studio - http://www.fineartstudiomexico.com/ - they don't have a huge presence on this forum, I think that's because they're breaking into the market, but in doing my research, I found their style to be quite beautiful and I like that they're more photojournalistic, plus their price was great!

Your pictures look great! I got a couple quotes so far from 2 very popular photographers and it's a lot more than I was imagining. I'll definitely contact this company.

  15. @@tpenner oh my god, that's is so awful. I can totally relate. Our wedding is in one month and I went from total excitement to complete devastation and anger. I don't think you should panic yet, you still have a lot of time.

I would be devastated too if I went through all the hype and found out last minute. I guess I should consider myself lucky that I found out now rather than later.

  16. The Zika virus has almost ruined our wedding. We are getting married in the Mayan riviera in March. I had one pregnant bridesmaid cancel and now my maid of honor is not coming either. She has a 6 month old and doesn't want to risk bringing her and cannot leave her at home for a week...

I am totally devastated and can't imagine the wedding day without my bridesmaids. :-(

Me too! My one bridesmaid is thinking about conceiving and is on the verge of cancelling. My other one is having a baby in April and has already cancelled because all this hype. My wedding isn't until December. I'm so disappointed.

  17. We did our own boarding pass invitations. We designed it on Microsoft publisher, printed them on cardstock, used a punch that rounded the edges, and are ordering envelopes that match our colors. We also needed to buy a paper trimmer because we printed 2 boarding passes on one sheet. I'll upload a pic for you soon to show you.

  18. I'm worried about it affecting attendance at my Dec wedding as well. I thought I read in an article that if a normal person gets it, they recover in a few days and it's not a big deal. However, for pregnant women, it's a different story. I'm really hoping it's not an issue in December. One of my bridesmaids is talking about having another baby soon, so I might lose her now.
