  3. Hello ladies! Thank you for all of your hints and ideas throughout my wedding planning. I wanted to repay the favor by sharing some insight on the vendors we used. I am happy to answer any questions or provide more details if needed Hilton Rose Hall - wedding ceremony on West Beach & all guests stayed onsite The resort is going through some renovations but all of our guests loved the lazy river, the food at the restaurants and the amazing hospitality of all the employees. Our wedding coordinator Renae Blackwell was an absolute pleasure to work with and everything was perfect! Day O Plantation - wedding reception Jennifer, the owner, exceeded our expectations! She always responded within a few hours and nothing was too much to ask. The venue is breathtaking, the food was amazing (almost everyone had seconds), the cake was to die for and the decor was a perfect match to all of my Pinterest boards I shared in the months prior. Our guests have all said it was the best wedding reception they have ever attended and the price could not be beat. I highly recommend if you want a more authentic versus resort feel! Jan's Flowers - Our bouquets and ceremony decor were beautiful. Their response time was impeccable and even with the potential outside vendor fee their prices are well below their competition. Sungold - photography Clayton was prompt and his passion for his work is contagious. The owner Paula, always responded in a very timely manner and was a pleasure to work with. We cannot wait to see the finished product. Jamaica Water Sports - catamaran / snorkeling excursion As a thank you to our guests, we invited them to join us for a day of sun after our wedding. Working with them to plan things out was a breeze. The crew was amazing and even provided individual attention to those that could not swim. They also guided us to the reefs and dazzled us with their knowledge. It was fun and amazing.
  4. Hello- we got married in Montego Bay last week and I was worried about the weather as well. The daily forecast called for 80% chance for thunderstorms every day! It rained once, for 14 minutes, all week In speaking with the locals these quick, early afternoon showers are common but the sun quickly dries everything off. I'd also add since this is part of their low season the resort wasn't overly crowded which was great for our guests! Good luck and please let me know if you have any other questions!
  5. Hello - I'm getting married next week and Jan's is doing our arrangements. I reviewed quotes from Jan's, Tai Flora and Grande and Jan's was 1/4 of the price. Their customer service has been outstanding and I feel confident everything will be great. I do still have their catalog with prices if you want to PM me your email address. Happy planning!
  6. We emailed copies of our documents with a notarized letter and were told we need to show the originals when we arrive for our wedding. The copies needed to be sent in at least 60 days prior to the wedding date. Good luck!
  7. Not sure if this is an option for you, but we are flying Caribbean Airlines into Montego Bay. They had the lowest ticket price and 2 free checked bags!
  8. I am so sorry to hear you are dealing with this stress 2 months out. I do think it was their responsibility to book your back up option or pay for the tent at this point since it is their fault. Have you called their corporate office versus the hotel? I think you'd have better luck with them. Keep us posted and good luck!
  9. Your wedding is a few days before mine! I heard about Kevan Stewart on this site. Many brides raved that his prices were good and he kept the party going. I've seen his pricing and think it's very fair compared to the resort vendors. I got a quote through his website: http://jamaicaweddingdj.com Good luck!
  10. Welcome and congrats! I did a lot of research in the Montego Bay market earlier this year Although I loved Mischa Earle's portfolio and responsiveness we went with SunGold. The packages seemed fair, the online portfolio fit our style and the owner Paula always responds to me right away and is very pleasant. Their online reviews are also very positive so that gave me piece of mind. The Hilton's preferred vendors for flowers are Tai Flora and Grande. I called and emailed both for 6 weeks with no response. I heard about Jan's on this forum and they have been a pleasure to work with. Their prices are great too! The Hilton has a $500 vendor fee but Jan's itemized prices are so fair it is still less expensive to pay the vendor fee. If you PM me your email address I would be happy to send you Jan's catalogue which includes prices. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!
  11. Congratulations and thank you so much for sharing your wonderful experience! I love to hear from other Montego Bay brides and will take your advice about staying calm since I'm still 3 months out! I love your tropical flowers and your orange wedding arch. Dwayne W was not available on our date but I am sure your pictures will be great, his portfolio is amazing. Would you mind sharing the name of the Etsy seller you ordered your map from? I may need to borrow that idea Also, did you plan any activities off the resort for your guests? Thanks!
  12. Congrats FutureMrsPaez. I feel your pain and just had to respond. Our preferred wedding date was December 6 to mark the anniversary of when we met. Some close family members (who I will not name) gave us a huge guilt trip because it was inconsiderate of us to get married so close to the holidays and not take family members schedules into account. To quiet things down we opted to get married Columbus Day weekend because it's a long holiday weekend with no school or work. Now that our formal invites are out, guess what? Not 1 of the people we changed the date for are coming to the wedding! Needless to say I just smile and say I understand but the moral of the story is do whatever makes you and your FI happy. My cousins wife gave me this advice as soon as we got engaged. She told me the biggest lesson she learned while planning her wedding was that people will always complain and someone will always be unhappy so make decisions for yourself. I wish I would have listened my FI and I talk about Dec 6 still and wish we would not have changed the date that was so special to us. Good luck!
  13. Hello ladies - I am hoping for some advice as we start to plan out our wedding weekend in Montego Bay. I'm searching for a fun, laid back place to listen to good music, dance and have some drinks with our guests in the evenings. The majority of the group is in their 30's so nothing in the Spring Break category The disco at our hotel is known for being pretty dead so I want to be prepared with some offsite options, possibly on the Hip Strip. Thank you in advance for your help! Sandra
  14. @@beckys98 I do like what you wrote in the email. You let her know your concerns but also complemented her finished product. I hope she responds and that everything can be cleared up asap. Other than this hiccup, are you ready for the big day?!
  15. @@beckys98 I am so sorry you're faced with this stress right before you leave. If I were you, I'd respond to her email simply asking her to call your FI back to discuss, then let him have the conversation you originally planned. Now that she wants / needs something from you it gives you leverage. If anything, he can set expectations with her and perhaps negotiate? Maybe she can shorten your wait time or give you a discount if you bring the phone but at the very least he can have an open discussion about your concerns and needs. I will be sending positive thoughts your way and please keep us posted
  16. Hello - Beautiful color for the BMs dresses but I can see why it's a challenge. I'm not sure where you live, or if you're open to making your own sashes, but Hobby Lobby usually has a large tulle color selection. You can probably buy regular white tulle anywhere and dye it too. If the above is not an option, perhaps someone on Etsy will make them to your liking. Seems like anything is possible on Etsy! Good luck and keep us posted!
  17. Thank you ladies for all of your great advice! It's great to hear all of your perspectives. My guests are not accustomed to AI's so I know none will think of bringing their own cups so these will be a huge hit. My FI is so practical (and sometimes cheap) so although I appreciated his opinion he was probably focused on the numbers adding up. I do secretely agree these OOT bags are getting a bit pricey Thanks to your guidance I've decided to purchase the insulated tumblers with straws. I did some research and totallypromotional.com has good prices and reviews and don't seem to have minimum orders. I emailed their customer service and they suggested not putting them in a checked bag but in a carry on instead. We will figure out how to make it work!! Thanks again ladies and on to the next wedding decision lol!!
  18. Hello all. I'm having a hard time deciding on the type of cup to include in my OOT bags. After visiting the resort last month I decided it was a must to add for our guests. I've been pricing them out and personalized stadium cups are by far less expensive and will be easiest to transport. I do think an insulated mug or cup with a lid or straw would be even better but do you think anyone would be disapointed with the stadium cups? I don't want to spend too much but also want to make sure they're used. I saw a lot of people with Bubba's and it just makes perfect sense to include as a gift. Do you think a cup with no lid or straw would be used as much? I saw some insulated cups with straws at Dollar Tree but it might be difficult to transport 40 since they don't nest perfectly inside each other. Help!!!!
  19. I love these! I haven't seen one with pineapples before...super cute! I struggled with the canvas decision for a while but thanks to the ladies on this site I ordered them last week from weddingchicks.com. They had a 40% off sale so if you decide to buy from them you can wait for the coupon to come up again! I figured our guest will use the canvas ones throughout their stay and for groceries and shopping afterwards. They will also be able to identify other guest using them while onsite which will be fun. Good luck and let us know what you decide!
  20. Congrats! We are getting married at the Hilton Rose Hall and visited last month. We picked it because quite a few kids will be coming to the wedding and I can tell you they won't be disapointed! There's a huge lazy river with rafts, a teen room which is like an arcade and endless things for them to do throughout the day such as crafts and learning about the culture. The ceremony options are great but in all honesty we are having an offsite reception due to pricing and I highly recommend Day O Plantation if you're open to going offsite. The food and pricing is great and all inclusive of flowers, decor and transportation. Jennifer, the owner, is amazing! I will say picking the venue is the hardest decision. This resort is also about 15 minutes from the airport. We used the Jamaica Tours Shuttle service and they were great. Montego Bay is great because everyone's vacation can start right away versus taking a flight then being on a car or bus another 90 minutes. I know my guests would not have been too happy. Good luck in your planning and please let me know if you have any questions about these venues.
  21. Thank you so much for sharing this. I just ordered my OOT bags and am so excited!
  22. Hello all. This forum has been extremely helpful for me through the ups and downs of planning my destination wedding. I had difficulty finding recent reviews of the Hilton Rose Hall in Montego Bay so I wanted to write a review after visiting for the 1st time last week. They have 2 beautiful gazebos that can accommodate 10 to over 100 guests and also offer ceremonies and receptions on the sand. The beautiful Aqueduct is also a short walk away and absolutely breathtaking in person. This resort will be perfect for our guests with children due to the onsite lazy river, water slides and the fact kids 12 and under stay free. Our other guests will also be thrilled to see they have an adults only beach section and nightly entertainment. Fresh, their buffet restaurant, was great. We had breakfast and dinner there and it was yummy. We also had an amazing steak dinner at Three Palms. They have free shuttles to the local stores and great house that run every 30 minutes and shuttles to the restaurants and clubs on the Hip Strip. I know every single guest will be impressed with their stay which is a huge relief since they are spending time and money for our wedding. Our coordinator, Angella Saddler has been amazing. Even when my wedding was 10 months out she still responded to my millions of questions in a timely manner and was an amazing host during our stay. If anyone has any questions please let me know but I truly hope this review encourages others to check them out.
  23. Congrats KM0711! We originally wanted to get married in Hollywood, Florida and found it difficult to stay under $15,000 for everything. The least expensive beach option we found was John U Lloyd state park. You would need to pay a small fee for a beach permit and ranger but can control your food and alcohol costs since there are no preferred vendors. I saw pics of an evening reception under a clear tent and it was gorgeous! Good luck! Sandra
  24. @@carmell87 I am getting married at the Hilton Rose Hall this October. I will be visiting the resort in a few weeks and would be happy to answer any questions you may have. We elected to get married at the beach and are planning a reception at the West Lawn Gazebo but I want to tour all of the options while we are there in case we want to make any changes.
  25. Hello - I am getting married at the Hilton Rose hall on Ocober 9, 2015. We are taking our 1st trip to Jamaica next month. Yes we committed before seeing it Has anyone toured the Hilton, seen a wedding there or planned one? Based on what I am reading there may be many surprise costs once we start planning the reception. For the sake of being proactive I've been in contact with Day O Plantation and their communication and pricing seem excellent. Has anyone been there or held a reception there? Also, any thoughts on having your ceremony in one place then busing everyone to a 2nd location for the dinner and party? Can't wait to finally see these locations in a few weeks but definitely want to be prepared to make decisions! Thanks ladies!
