About TheDivineMissC

  1. Hi there! Just to give you another idea, my fiance and I are getting married this coming October in Playa. There is a group of non-inclusive hotels, Condo Hotels Playa del Carmen, that we are using as our accommodations. There are 4 different hotel choices within the group, and all all within 2 blocks of each other at different price points. Because we are off-season, the rates are incredibly great, and it's a 4 star hotel on Trip Advisor. All the 4 hotels use the same beach club, at one of the properties, El Taj, so your guests will all be hanging out together. These condo hotels have 1 to 3 bedroom options, all with full kitchens. We're getting a penthouse with a big BBQ and jacuzzi, so we can host a wedding rehearsal/reception up there the night prior and have a grill out with all our friends. The associated reception venue is Wicky's Beach Club, which is just 2 blocks down the street from the hotels. They have great food reviews. Ceremony is on the beach, and then reception is right there at the beach club. There's a coordinator, Linda Burchett, through Wicky's that handles both the accommodations and the wedding for you. We didn't want to do an all-inclusive as we felt they may be very expensive for some of our guests. We also wanted them to feel free to explore the town of Playa and not feel like they were spending unused money if they ate out on the town. We also liked being in town and having it walkable, so people didn't have to rent cars. Unfortunately we weren't able to do a site inspection before booking, so we're just rolling the dice, but so far we feel really happy with our decision. I will make sure to do an update following our wedding with reviews of all the vendors and venues we chose. Congratulations and best wishes!
  2. Great review! So helpful. My fiance and I are in the process of going through all the information on Wicky's that Linda sent and your feedback is very helpful.

El Taj Bride? Or Non-Inclusive Venues?

Hi everyone! Just about to start reaching out to venues in the Playa Del Carmen to start planning our October wedding. My fiance Chris and I are excited to plan and know we have a lot of work to do. He works in the hotel/hospitality industry, and I am an event planner, so we have a lot of experience but it's definitely different planning your own! Plus we are not planning on doing a site, so we are rolling the dice a little and hoping for the best. Anyone else looking at El Taj,or have any experience with their staff and vendors? We love this boutique hotel and are hoping that this might be *the one*! Are there other recommendations for a non-inclusive hotel that is on the beach? For both room blocks and as a reception venue. We want to be on the beach, and would love to be able to do everything on site, and avoid the all-inclusive resorts. Congratulations to all the engaged couples out there, and to those who have tied the knot! Cheers!

    El Taj brides?

Hi Cherany, Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials! Very exciting. My fiance and I are very interested in El Taj. The venue looks so beautiful, and it's one of the few non-inclusive beachfront properties. We are looking to get married in October of this year, and are going to reach out to El Taj soon to get more information. Your post about not being able to have day-time ceremonies anymore though is something that we would need to consider as well! Can you provide some more information, and any recommendations regarding your planners, vendors, etc.? Cheers!

Awesome DJ - Everyone loved him!

    This is a review of:

    Disco Movil DJs

Awesome DJ - Everyone loved him!

Pros: Easy to work with, reasonably priced, awesome dance mix, something for everyone, good quality equipment, reliable, fun!
    Cons: None
Ricardo of Disco Movil DJ was AWESOME.  I highly recommend him to any bride & groom having their wedding in Playa del Carmen.  My husband and I got married at Mamita's Beach Club on October 12th in Playa.  I am a professional event planner myself, and so have heard a lot of DJs in my career, and I thoroughly enjoyed working with Ricardo.   I was on the dance floor the entire time with all my friends and family.  The dancing never stopped, and the great thing was that Ricardo just knows instinctively what to play.  No one, including myself, had to ask him to play something specific because he played all the right songs.  I also included a Song Request line on my invitations, and he played all my guests' requests.   We ordered the cold fireworks for the dance floor for our first dance.  DEFINITELY do it.  It's inexpensive, and a great effective that your guests aren't expecting.  They are like big sparklers that sit on the floor and shoot straight up.  Ricardo timed it perfectly.   We also created a slideshow that Ricardo put on a large rear projected video screen.  Ricardo told me an easy way to make the slideshow (just in iPhoto), and I DropBoxed the file to him.  No problem, everything went well.    My guests all complimented the DJ afterwards, and had a blast.  He's easy to work with, replies quickly, and you don't have to worry about a thing with him for the setup or party.  Just enjoy yourself, that is what a great vendor allows you to do.
