  1. My advice on a wedding dress would be to have ONE perfect wedding dress. I ended up with two because I couldn't return the original one. I did a wedding dress and reception dress (white cocktail dress). I would have loved to stay in my wedding gown, but no matter how light weight and comfortable the gown is, it can be pretty hard to stay in a long dress from 4:30pm til midnight. Especially when there is dancing involved. As far as an aisle runner goes, I thought the ceremony was prettier without an aisle runner, buts thats my opinion. I had white rose pedals spread out up and down the aisle and they really stood out on the green grass.

  2. Weight of dress is EVERYTHING! I own two wedding dresses because of that very issue. I got to thinking about the weather and how hot it would be and 3 weeks before the wedding I went and bought another dress. Best decision ever! My dress was as lite as a feather. The only thing I wish I would have ended up wearing was my wedged heels. No matter how little it may have rained in cancun, you will sink on the grass or at least give a little which makes your dress seem longer an more difficult to walk in. If it weren't for that I would have stayed in my dress all night long.

  3. When we met with the WC he showed us a book of 20 or more flower arrangements and we chose from those. We made all decisions once we got there. You can email back and forth all you want but when you get there you talk about everything like its the first time you've discussed it so that's why I say don't waste your time emailing before hand. I think my additional flowers cost all together were no more than $150 maybe less.

  4. My price included lighting, DJ, microphones, dance floor, etc. $3800. I didn't negotiate. I felt like it was affordable and after seeing what they do it was very reasonable. A DJ alone in my home town with nothing but music and speakers is 2500+. My dance floor alone was worth it. My total cost for my wedding with the hotel was 5500.00. No complaints! I didn't ask any questions. I just paid the man. Check out the arrangement that was on one of my many tables of food. This was on the "truffles table". I didn't realize the effort they put into displaying the food. This arrangement is completely made of fruits and vegetables. 400 This one one of our tables at the reception 400 Please know that I am posting this stuff to brag. I am just trying to show you what you get with a riu pennisula wedding. This wasn't their standard setup. Perfect!

  5. My WC was Jared. He was great, but don't worry yourself with wedding details prior to your arrival. It's a waste of time. They seriously have and do it all. I took a rolled up hand painted print from a previous cancun trip and a sharpie and used it as my guest book. I took a cd for the ceremony in the order I wanted everything played so they never had to worry with starting or stopping it. I did the same with our reception first dance, father daughter, groom mother music as well. Something that helped me more than anything is that I had my best friend and my husband's best friend ordained and they performed the ceremony. Also my brother in law lead everyone in prayer and that combo really made things so personal and special. I have no problem with getting a local minister but when they perform the entire ceremony I fell like you lose the romantic magical moments that you expect when you're replaying your wedding over and over in your head in the months leading up to your wedding. Also i would suggest you have someone from home that you trust to be your WC as well. I had my husband's best friends mother there. She has coordinated a lot of ceremonies and she was there to tell each person when to walk out, where to go, how to stand. She also worked hand in hand with the DJ, the hotel staff, and Jared loved her. He just stepped out of the way and let her run with it. He also offered her a job after the wedding was over. I watched a wedding two days before mine and although it was pretty, it was all over the place. Each bridesmaid took different routes on their way to start down the aisle. Some took the sidewalk, some walked in the grass and even something little like that could make all the difference in the world. You have to get the illuminated dance floor!!!! It's a must. It was a show stopper and people will be talking about it long after the trip. The photographers t the hotel are great. The bartenders were perfect and the DJ let my husband and his friends scratch different songs and mix things up. They were awesome. I also had my hair done in the hotel spa. Roxy did my hair. She was great. I was prepared for a plan B but didn't need it. Hair turned out great. I suggest no veil and hair up. When I was watching videos on the web prior to my arrival I always noticed veils flying around but I just brushed it off and figured it was due to location and certain times of the year but when I got there and watched the wedding they had 2 days before my it was the same situation. The maid of honor had to hold the end of the veil through the entire wedding. It was all over the place.

  6. No actually we swapped out a few things. I didn't need a boutineer for the groom because all the men were wearing pocket squares instead i also didnt need a table in the middle of my ceremony underneath the arch (which also came with a centerpiece flower arrangement) so instead of the centerpiece and boutineer i asked for two arrangements as you walked down the aisle. They were more than happy to do it. From start to finish the meeting with the wedding planner lasted 1 hr. flowers, order of ceremony, arch decor, colors, cake, reception decor, food, table decor, DJ, lighting, etc. and it turned out perfect! And I'm a perfectionist. 400 400 400

  7. Hi there. I hope I'm not invading the forum. I am a June 2013 bride, but I happened to come across this and saw that people were trying to figure out a location for their destination wedding and I thought I would give you the info I received when I chose mine. First...price. Then flight time, and weather were our major decision making factors. We figured out real quick that Mexico fit all those requirements and then we narrowed it down even easier when we figured out how much more inexpensive cancun was for what your guest would be getting with their travels. If anyone is still trying to narrow down your selection you should check out riu palace peninsula. That is where I will be having my wedding and it is next week so I will try to let you know for sure how it is. I have stayed there as a guest and loved it. I also love that it is modern, beautiful, and kid friendly with a kids facility with trained staff to watch your kids a couple hours out of the day as well. I have a 3 yr old nephew who ABSOLUTELY couldn't miss this vacation. This resort is all-inclusive with ALL drinks and eat free. No exclusions. This resort has 7 amazing restaurants, cafe, swim up bar, spa, etc. we are staying 6 nights, flying non stop from Nashville tn and the entire price per person was 1107.00. We have 43 guest coming and EVERY single person was tickled with the price. We told our travel agent to only collect 950.00 from each person and we took care of the rest. Everyone seems really excited. Anyways, heck it out. Not many pics out though because of it being a rather new hotel (may 2012).

  8. Hi everyone. I have contacted the DJ aurdiales@psav.com to request information on his services and the cost. I am waiting for a reply. I will update you all with any info I get. I saw where someone on here had mentioned they used the riu las americas photographers instead of the ones offered at our hotel so I tried to do the same and got shot down. Oh we'll it was worth a try. Honestly, each email I get from my WC tells conflicting information, prices, offers, etc. I'll forget he already gave me a price on something and ask for a quote again and it's always different. First, he told me the only option for a cocktail welcome party for 1 hr., drinks only, the evening my guest arrive was going to be 60/ person and then after I told him it was a shame that we have flown in almost 50 guest to his hotel (in the off season) and they don't offer a complimentary welcome gathering He sent an email I telling me they have a complimentary welcome party at the Tobago bar. Shew, there's no telling what the final bill will say and just from experience, it's hard to get them to adjust a bill at that hotel. I'm not putting down the hotel but for instance I remember during our stay last August we used the dry cleaning service which was picked up on a Tuesday morning. We had requested the 1 day service which cost more but worth it. We got our clothes delivered to our room that following Saturday evening before we left out Sunday Morning at 7am. Luckily, we realized shortly into the trip that casual comfortable clothes/shoes were the way to go in cancun, even at night, so I didn't need the dressy clothes we had pressed but when we went to check out we were charged for the express one day service. They said their was nothing they could do and looked at us like they didn't understand us. Obviously, it wasn't the ladies at front desk who delayed the service, but you could tell they didn't have a lot of flexibility or power or they were trained to play dumb in those situations until you just finally walk away. Or better yet just present you with the bill minutes before your shuttle arrives to take you back to the airport. Anyway, I'm sorry to go on and on, but theirs things I wish I'd known prior to my trip. Another thing, my FI and i took cash to operate on and more specifically $200 of it was in 1 dollar bills. We will definitely be taking more 1's than that this year. A $1 bill is the most useful thing there (ex. Proper tip, one way bus trip, street vendor, etc.) take plenty of ones!!!! Remind people during their stay that the rule for dinner reservations is not a joke. It is 2 days in advance and you can only book 2 nights worth and you have to keep coming back to make the other nights. Ex reserve Monday morning for Wednesday night dinner. Here are some more pics the WC sent me 400 400 These were the aisle runner options FYI aisle runners are an additional cost First option 180.00 Second option 200.00 I asked the WC to send me any more wedding pictures he had 400 400 Also these are the tumblers I had made for all my guest to give at the cocktail welcome gathering 400 And last picture and I'll leave you guys alone. These are the bags I had made and shipped to the WC for him to have in each room laying on the bed when the guest arrive. ****to jasminm---- I found these particular ones in Nashville tn at a surplus warehouse. I can't think of the name right now but I will look at my receipt and see. I ordered online for the ones I had to give as gifts at my bridal shower. I'll try to find out that website as well. 400

  9. Just an update... Shew what a journey! I have 43 confirmed and booked guest flying non-stop to cancun for 6 nights to attend my wedding. I have chosen an outdoor reception ($80/person). I think the DJ is an additional charge. I am shipping my dress, groom's suit, my moms dress. I also had tumblers made to give out to our guest on the first night downstairs at one of the hotel bars for a little "welcome party" and monogrammed welcome bags w/ goodies for the guest to have in their rooms when they arrive ($2 delivery charge per room). I am shipping those as well. The WC said I could ship it all to him and he would take care of everything. As far as the ceremony I am hoping they can do white fabric decorations replacing the blue in the picture they sent me. 400 I have chosen the outdoor reception with the dance floor 400 I'd like to lose the white ruffled skirt around he dance floor but oh well. I'll be lucky if 50% of the wedding goes "as planned". I am a terrible planner.

  10. Thank you. I saw this on weddingpaperdivas.com. I received an email where you could get 10 free invitation samples and this was one of those samples. We loved it. We called one of our local photographers in town on a Friday evening and she took the pic that Saturday morning. She used some past vacations photos she had of the beach and recreated the same look from the website invitation and then I just used it when ordering from the site. We were pleased with outcome. We wasn't planning on using a photo invite but glad we did.
