  1. Just realized my wife is on here! Ill let her tell you guys about it.
  2. Our wedding was AMAZING!!! We just got back, just wanted to share. All of our 100 guests showed up (85 adults, 15 kids) and it was a complete success! Just wanted to share.
  3. What's your budget should be the first question. I just got back from a wedding at the Bavaro Palace Deluxe, I don't want to piss some brides off, the wedding was nice but they messed up a few things. I know my friends were on a tight budget, but the resort screwed up on several things: -Check in was a disaster for every guest (Bride and Groom stayed in the lobby for 2 straight days making sure their party was taken care of) -The priest who married them was late and said "I have 6 other weddings to do today so we have to make this quick" - how rude -The room after the reception was NOT READY! We had to wait almost an hour for them to have it ready for them and a few other gripes that were an inconvenience to the bride and groom. Things to note on this Mega Resort: -Wifi is expensive -Towel cards... really? You lose it, you pay $20 -Check in is a nightmare -If you cut off your band for the wedding, it will take you 2 hours to get a new one (trust me) -Service is TERRIBLE -You have to make a reservation for the restaurants the day prior, you cannot do it sameday, even if the restaurant has 50 tables available -Did I mention how bad the service was? -Resort is HUGE, took an hour to find people, and 15-20 minutes to walk to your room from anywhere, people were spread all over the resorts, so it was a pain walking back and forth ---------------- My fiancee and I were in Punta Cana, so we saw a few places while we were there, we liked Paradisus Palma Real, but their wedding contacts are BRUTAL in communication, and they do not want to budge on price for anything (80-120 people for a destination wedding is a lot) but they didnt budge so we took them from the list. We opted for Cap Cana's - Sanctuary, why? -Resort is BEAUTIFUL (newer establishment) -The Service is unreal, we just got back last weekend and they treated us like royalty, we also didn't pay a dime, compared to other resorts who provide you with a "credit" towards your wedding (like Paradisus). -Communication with the resort is great, you send an email, youll have a reply within the hour -They budged on price on everything we asked for...we literally got a yes on everything we mentioned (surprising) -Every staff member speaks English (even though I am spanish, but my fiancee's family and friends only speak English) -It is not too big at all, you are 5 minutes from anything there -The price is better than Paradisus, as a package and as a whole -No towel cards -No arm bands -The food is AMAZING! Did you see that's in capital letters... -No day before resturant deal, not a million people everywhere -Classier patrons (no offense people) -Classy employees -You can also check out the Fishing Village area of the resort I can keep going.... If you have any questions feel free to PM me. We were that happy that I had to post up. If you are looking for a beautiful place to soak the sun, do activities with a more personalized feel do Cap Cana, if you are looking for Casino's, Nightclubs, loud people, bad service, do the mega resorts. It all depends on what you are looking for, and a lot depends on price.
  4. Hello everyone, has anyone ever ordered Dominican cake in Punta Cana or know of a place that makes them nearby? We are not going to opt for the cake provided by the resort, every resort cake I've had for friends weddings have been mediocre. I am Dominican from Santo Domingo (left to Florida at 10yrs of age) and I would suggest you try some Dominican cake in your nearby spanish neighborhood. Dominican cake is AMAZING, they infuse the cake with layers of fresh fruit of your choice, and the cake itself melts in your mouth and it's a known amazing thing the people of the country take pride in. For example, we had a Pot Luck for Thanksgiving here in Manhattan, my fiancee and I (at the time my gf) were one of the couples assigned with providing a dessert of our choice. I quickly explained to her that we "have this one in the bag". She smiled and told me what we were going to do, so I made a phone call to a Dominican dessert place in Brooklyn, New York, I asked them what part of the country they were from and they were from "El Cibao - Santiago" which I could quickly tell by their accent (means the cake is yummy) so we placed an order, they made the cake and I picked it up a few hours before the potluck. Not one dessert was touched the entire evening! People couldn't believe, good thing the cake was huge because people were taking some home. Anyway, I just want to avoid shipping one over from Santo Domingo the day of the wedding. If someone makes it locally that would be ideal. Just wanted to share with you all. Overlook the cosmetics of this piece (it looks like its for a b-day party), look at the inside: If you guys have any questions, feel free to ask!
  5. Hello everyone! We are super excited and in the middle of our destination wedding plans. We are having our wedding in April at Cap Cana - Punta Cana. We have visited the resort and are super excited at our plans and how everything is going to turn out. We are hoping to learn and share on this site. And yes I am the groom, but I am helping out as much as I can with the plans to make this a perfect wedding for my fiancee and I.
  6. My fiancee and I are under a lot of stress because of the same things you have mentioned, now I know why there's a show called Bridezillas lol but yes, some people will complain, some people will give their opinions, thoughts, negative energy etc... Ill tell you guys what I told my fiancee... F*** Them... this is your day, this is for us, we have also invited a whole bunch of people that we don't expect to go, if people are that bothered by the DW then it's plain and simple, don't go... We have spoken about all this and we have decided to make this experience as easy as possible for our immediate family members, everyone else (distant cousins, friends, etc...) can go ahead and follow the plan or not come at all, simple as that.
  7. Hi everyone, we just got back from Cap Cana from last weekend and have our date set a month after you carori. We had an AMAZING time, they took care of us very well and the pricing has been great so far. After dealing with several other resorts and them not budging on price or completely horrible communication, we decided to get in contact with Cap Cana and eventually fly down (which we did). We were in contact with the VA office, they would write back quickly so we knew we were onto to something, eventually we were passed on to Sarah and that's who we met in the resort. She took great care of us and showed us around the resort, we are very excited and are willing to help anyone out with any questions. We opted for the Europen Room rates instead of the all inclusive, the majority of our party will be staying at the Fishing Village and coming over to Sanctuary to hang out during the day. The resort was going through some renovations, but they should be up and running at 100% by the winter. I am Dominican and my fiancee is American (but speaks spanish) so we were able to switch from one to the other and check to see how the staff members were. The majority of our party will be English speaking, and we are expecting from 80-120 guests. The main thing that is different from this resort compared to lets say the Barcelo resorts and Paradisus Palma Real that we visited was the service. We went to a wedding in Barcelo and it was ok (bad service, screw ups), Paradisus Palma Real was nice but they had horrible communication and they wouldnt budge on price and wanted kids under 10 (which we will have 15) to pay $90 per kid per day which is ridiculous. Anyway, after seeing all the wedding packages available, this will be an epic wedding with what we are going for. If any of you brides or grooms have any questions feel free to contact me or share anything. The resort treated us perfect, the service was amazing and the food was the best ive had in any resort in Punta Cana. I loved the fact that our guests wont have to wear stupid bands and have towel cards, and that they will have a seperate check in available for our guests for the wedding party alone.
