  1. My fiance and I are considering Saint Lucia for our destination wedding but when it comes to choosing a venue we are completely lost. The island is so beautiful but everything I find is either mediocre or it costs a ton of money and we don't have a large budget so can any of you ladies please suggest a venue that is beachfront but can accommodate 50 people without breaking the bank. Our budget is 15,000 for absolutely everything and we'd love to have the ceremony on the beach with a private reception with a dance floor and DJ. All inclusive would help but we're only allocating like 30% of the budget to travel so we're hoping to stay at a resort that isn't that expensive. Any help is appreciated ladies
  2. On *****'s blog she photographed a wedding where the bride and groom chose the lobster tail in champagne sauce as part of their menu and she has pictures so you can see how big the lobster tail is for yourself. You can find the link here, hope this helps
  3. First post on this thread so yay!! I've been stalking these forums for months and I also credit this thread for helping me make a final decision. I've been in contact with Mayte and she sent me a pre-invoice since my fiance and I haven't set a date yet but my price is also based on 50 people. We plan on choosing the first menu option with the international open bar at 15/pp for two hours with a DJ and dancefloor on the beach. Here is the pre-invoice she sent: Appetizers: TBD Cocktail Hour: 6/pp= $300 Menu 1: 35/pp= $1,750 Open Bar for 2 hours: 30/pp= $1500 Drinks for Dinner: 8/pp= $400 Taxes: 16%= $632 DJ, Sound, & MC: $600.00 White Wood Dancefloor with Lighting: $350 Ceremony on the Beach: $600 Reception Decoration: $750 Cake: TBD Flower Decor: TBD Flowers for Bridal Party: TBD Transportation: 7/pp= $350 Grand Total (excluding flowers, cake, and appetizers): $7,232 We're praying that flowers, cake, and appetizers aren't that expensive but we'll see otherwise we're satisfied on the price considering it's for 50 people but we have to decide on a date before we book but she based the decor price on some pictures I sent her. I hope this pre-invoice helps all future brides.
  4. Hey ladies! I know it's a popular site and most of you probably have a wedding board already on Pinterest but for those of you that don't I strongly advise you to get one, Pinterest is a great way to share not just wedding ideas but tons and tons of other stuff as well. I warn you ahead of time though that it can be extremely addicting haha, whenever I have free time I'm always on Pinterest looking up wedding ideas, home decor, etc. and you can find my boards here. I would love to compare ideas with you ladies, I have a large variety of stuff pinned so I hope you find it helpful! -Kels

  6. The Riu in Puerto Plata sounds beautiful, I might have to check that out but the problem is that my fiance and I also fell in love with the Jellyfish in Punta Cana, its a beautiful location and it's actually turning out to be way cheaper than the venue in Key Largo so we have to decide what's more important, either we splurge on the venue but then have to cut it tight in every other area of the wedding or we can have it at the Jellyfish and even though it isn't Key Largo, we still end up having almost everything we want and get to spend a week long vacation with our friends and family. They say that choosing a venue is like choosing a wedding dress, when you know you know and that's how it felt with Key Largo but we haven't had a chance to visit Punta Cana so if our budget allows it then we're gonna try to make it down there to visit and see some of the resorts, we're almost set on Dreams Palm Beach but I've been trolling the forums for months trying to compare and contrast it to other resorts so I guess we'll see. If you don't mind me asking where are you honeymooning?

  11. Oh Andrea that is such an awesome story, I would have probably died if Marden had done something like that haha but I'm so happy for you guys and congrats on choosing Jamaica as your wedding destination! Marden and I considered Jamaica because they obviously take the gold in having some of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean but we're leaning more towards Punta Cana if we do have a destination wedding but we live like twenty minutes from the Florida Keys and my fiance and I fell in love with a venue in Key Largo but it's wicked expensive so I'm not sure what we're going to do haha but hopefully we'll figure it soon. We're in no hurry but I wish you all the best in your upcoming wedding, I'm sure it'll be beautiful! VT and Wallaby: Thank you so much for the well wishes, I hope both of you have the wedding of your dreams and an even more beautiful marriage!
  12. Getting married and having a dream wedding is something that every little girl dreams of but for my fiance and I it's more than that just having pretty decorations or good food, it's the foundation to our future. If it were up to us it doesn't matter where we get married, it could be at the most luxurious venue in the world or behind a trash dump, as long as we're together and surrounded by the people who love us then that's all that matters but the one thing that we won't sacrifice is our photography for the wedding. When the wedding is all said and done all we'll have is our memories and the pictures that we were taken that day but as we get older our memory fades and we can easily forget some of the greatest moments of our special day but pictures keep that from happening. Every engaged couple spends years and months planning their wedding but sometimes we're just so busy planning that we forget that once that day comes and goes, it's gone, like the blink of an eye and we can never get it back but having a physical representation of those memories allows us to recapture that moment and remember how excited we were to start our new lives together and in the future if we ever loose sight of the reason why we got married then all we have to do is pull out those photos and see the love on our faces and realize why it never worked out with anyone else.
  13. Hello ladies! This is my first post on the website so YAY! My name is Kelsey and I've been engaged for a little over a year but I love hearing the "how you first met" and "how did he propose" stories so I'll start with mine and I hope to read so many more from the rest of you. I apologize it's kind of long but here goes... My fiance and I met on, believe it or not, Xbox Live. I used to be a huge gamer and we met through a mutual friend of ours while in a party of five or six other people. At first we really didn't notice each other until I heard him speak and I can't exactly describe the feeling but it was almost like a spark, I didn't know his name or anything and I was instantly attracted him and little did I know at the time that he had the same feeling. I was about to watch the movie Zombieland on Netflix with a couple of friends and he asked if he could jump in with us. We spent the next two hours laughing and joking but once the movie was over it was late so my two other friends left and it was just the two of us. We had the usual conversation of where are you from, what kind of games do you play, etc. and before we knew it, it was five in the morning and because we both had to work the next day, we exchanged friend requests and went to bed. I went to sleep with a huge smile on my face that night and all I wanted to do was spend more time with him so over the next several weeks we would watch movies, play games, or just sit and talk for hours on end and over that span of time we were both slowly developing feelings for each other but I being from Virginia and he from Miami I never thought that anything would come of it but fate has a funny way of bringing people together. At the time I was a freshman in college and after a couple of months of getting to know each other we thought we'd give a long distance relationship a try. For the first few months it was extremely hard because we had no idea how things would be when we met or if we were even going to be attracted to each other but that December he decided to fly up to VA and take me to DC for a weekend and ladies it truly was the best weekend of my life. It was a very special treat for him because he was born in San Juan, PR and had lived his entire life in Miami so he'd never seen snow or experienced cold weather and to see him freak out over the reflecting pool being frozen over was a very special moment. It truly was a magical evening but because he had an early morning flight the next day and he had to drop me off at my dorm that was over two hours away from the airport we knew we didn't have a lot of time left but we made the most of what we had left. On the way back to the university it was the shortest car ride of my life and before we'd even parked I was already balling because I didn't want him to leave. I thought I'd like him, sure maybe we'd get along well but I wasn't planning on what happened next. That entire weekend not a drop of snow had fallen and they weren't calling for snow that night but as he walked me to the door of my dorm we started to see the snow fall and I don't if it was just the emotion of it all or it was just the right timing but he dropped down on one knee right there in the snow and told me he loved me and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me, even though we'd only known each other for five months. I started to cry and realized that I loved him too, I always had and without even thinking I said "yes!" Because he hadn't planned on proposing he didn't yet have a ring but vowed to me that I would have one soon and little did I know that I would have one three months later. Happily engaged and loving every second I flew to Miami for my spring break that March and shared a week with him and his family. I met his parents and siblings and just fell in love with them, on the day before I was supposed to leave he took me to a Florida Panthers hockey game and after the game he told me that he need to properly propose to me and before I could even react he dropped down on one knee and presented me with my ring right in front of everyone. Needless to say everyone was cheering when I said yes again but when I left the next day neither of us had any idea when we were going to see each other again and I almost didn't get on the plane but because I needed to finish out my first year of college I unwillingly went back home but thankfully that May I was able to go back to Miami but this time for three weeks and that three weeks turned into three months and come August we decided that we couldn't bear another goodbye so I transferred schools and cancelled my return flight home. I'm now happy to report that my fiance and I just celebrated our two year anniversary and we couldn't be more in love. I'm so happy that I chose to follow my heart and even though it was shock to my family I did what was best for me and never looked back. For now we're just enjoying being engaged but we're looking to set a date for late fall 2014 or early 2015 and we still haven't decided between a wedding abroad or here at home but we'll get there....eventually -Kels
