  4. Sorry forgot the picture: I can't get the one of the dance floor thing to load but here is the really cute furniture you can rent.
  5. Just to give everyone an idea here is what I paid for additional decor from DecoCanun: Structure to outline the dance floor $450 (see picture below) Lounge Area (wicker couch, 2 small chairs and a table) $150 Wicker seating for 4 with small table $120 Tiki Torches to line the entrance $8 each Tall Tables (for around the bar area) $55 each Centerpieces (Large glass bowl with sand and shells with a large banana leaf under them) $42 each Bouquet and Boutinere $295 (I did not want roses and the resort wanted $300 for just the bouquet to be upgraded so I am using my complimentary bouquet for pedals for the flower girl's basket and corsages for the mothers) Fuschia napkins $3 each TOTAL was `$1900 This was a lot cheaper than one of the collections that the resort offered. I went a little bit crazy with the decor but you get the idea of how much things are.
  6. Hi There, Getting married there in a couple weeks. They told me that I would be contacted 90 days before but I pestered them and got everything done ahead of time. I had my locations locked down in September (getting married in April). I had to wait until I locked it down before I started making decor decisions. Any place that you have a private function should have your own bartender for the duration of the event. It appears to me that none of the reception locations are all that private as they are all sort of off pathways that guests will be walking. I was initially considering the Moon Grand Side (Grand Terrace) as it appears more secluded but it looked so big and open and I thought decorating it to look quaint would be a real task. In the end i chose Lake Terrace for the reception and cocktail hour and Bugambilia Gazebo for the ceremony. Try not to be overwhelmed. Planning a destination wedding is not as easy as everyone thinks. It is a lot of work but if you stay organized you will be good to go. I used google docs to keep track of every document I received and it is proving to be a god sent, you can even get the documents offline in case you are at the resort and don't have wifi when you need it. Happy Planning. If you have any questions please let me know. Erica Private Events MP Cocktail & Reception (Update 20.12.12) (2).pdf
  7. As far as i know you get full bar service and buffet for each private function. We have 3 private functions and got a full buffet and bar service for each one.
  8. Hi There, I too did not like all the details of the Colin Cowie collection and the price was outrageous. I decided to opt for the complimentary decor and then add what I wanted using the resort approved Decor Cancun. They have been amazing and I am getting exactly what I wanted for a great price. If you have a vision of what you want it may be easier to just tweak the complimentary decor using this company. Ask your coordinator for a contact if you are interested.
  9. I booked prior to March and I was told that I get a 1 hour cocktail and 2 hours reception. I am under the impression that you get unlimited functions but they can not be more than 3 hours per day. So you could do one every day of your stay but they are only allowed to be 3 hours all together. I was also told that it is $60 per table per hour and that includes keeping the bartender there for those hours.
  10. Thanks Speckles, very helpful. You will have to let me know how you like them.
  11. Hi Ladies, I am looking into booking my DJ. PSAV or JSAV. Anyone have any comments or recommendations? JSAV is about $200 more expensive for the exact same thing and I am wondering if they are a better choice for any reason. Also, how far ahead did everyone book their DJ and audio?
  12. Hey Charlene, They just overhauled their whole wedding department, thank goodness. They used to have a main Miami office that you dealt with that was supposed to relay all details booked to the resort in Cancun. Well this seemed to be a huge issue and last month they got rid of that structure and you now deal with a Cancun office. I think they are currently dealing with the chaos this creates and trying to deal with weddings that are in the next couple months and in the Fall so I would say keep trying and be patient and they will get back to you. If it makes you feel any better I am getting married in April and I have just locked in my locations and I think I am way too early on that one but I just want to know for certain I get what I want. I would also highly recommend you get a travel agent. I get treated very well and get very fast responses because my travel agent is on the ball and amazing. This seems to help me a great deal. Happy Planning : )
  13. I am getting married in April 2013 so we were just able to see airfare prices in May. When we were first looking in May they were outrageous ($800-900) but all of the sudden this week they plummeted and are now around $500 a person. So no one freak out if the 333 days comes around and you can see the flight prices and they are insane. I think they just like to give us destination brides a scare ; )
  14. Hi Mary, I am a crazy researcher and planner and I found Mexico the best price and Moon Palace the best bang for your buck. If you are going to have that many guests you can get a free wedding ($300 blood tests aren't included and you have to pay that), a free 7 night stay, and free unlimited functions. We are having a welcome dinner, a reception (with cocktail hour), and a rehearsal dinner all complimentary. Also, they do have decor packages you can buy but I found them outrageously expensive so I am using the resort approved Deco Cancun and found their prices very reasonable. We will be paying about $900 for our photographer, $1200 for our DJ (resort approved company), and $1200 for decor. So it is by no means free but I found Moon Palace had more reasonable prices than other resorts that were smaller, less luxurious, and charged for every little function you wanted to have. I believe you can bring in outside vendors for decor and photog and DJ but they seemed more expensive than the resort approved ones and you may have to pay a fee to bring in the outside vendor. When it all comes down to it you are paying far less than someone who gets married in a traditional way and you get a week of fun with family. Win-Win. Hope this helps a little.
  15. I was emailed the following email by my new onsite coordinator: "My name is Clarissa Arzola from weddings department of Palace Resorts at Cancun and it will be my pleasure to assist you in your special day . By the moment, we are restructuring the weddings department and Juana will be not Longer available. Be SURE in a few weeks we will get back to you with the answers to your questions and all your concerns. Thank you so much for your understanding and I'll be in touch soon. Kindest Regards, Clarissa Arzola" This was June 19 and I have not heard anything more from her. I am in no hurry because my wedding is in April but glad to have heard from someone.
  16. I have not been on in awhile and have not caught up on all posts but did everyone know that here is no more dealing with Miami, Cancun now has it's own office opening up soon. My wedding planner is no longer Juana and I am getting reassigned again. Oh well happy that the new planner will be right in the action and not so far away from the actual resort.
  17. Hi There, I was debating between the Lake Terrace and the Grand and I ended up picking the Lake because the lay out is great, it is much closer to the Nizuc and Sunset rooms of guests, and there is better lighting. The lighting and proximity to the rooms was a big deal for me since a few members of my family are legally blind and have terrible night blindness...myself included. In terms of the distance, it seems that the Grand is like a 20 minutes walk from Nizuc and this was a deal breaker for me. Also, I did a lot of research on the decorating of the Grand Terrace and it seems like you have to put a lot more into decorating it (including lots of lights) to get it to not look so much like a "parking lot" (my mother's words)...lol. I really think the structure of the Lake Terrace is amazing and would require very little decorating. Also, there is the hut thing that you can use. I am planning on using it as a bar and lounge area. Just thought I would share what I discovered about these venues. Sorry I don't have a good pic of the Grand Terrace. I hope things are much better for you when you get there! LAKE TERRACE
  18. Hi There, I am getting married the same week as you. See you there : ) In terms of the ceremony time I was told they don't do them after 5 but I could be mistaken. I was told 4 is the most popular time. I think they generally get things going on time as they are a well oiled wedding machine from what I hear. I don't know about the new wedding planner. I too was assigned to Beatrice before she left and I still have a phone appointment booked next month with her. Guess no one is going to tell me it is cancelled...lol. All I know is that my TA said that she did not much care for dealing with Beatrice for various reasons so I am actually happy to have gotten rid of her. I would not worry too much. It seems that most things get done a few months before the wedding and they are not all too inclined to help those of us who are a year out.
  19. Is anyone planning on doing indoor ballroom reception? I was looking at photos and I don't really love how out in the open the outdoor venues are. I just keep thinking about giving a heart felt speech and randoms walking by in speedos listening as I tear up talking about my parents...lol.
  20. I don't think this will be an issue because I think my TA spoke to the wedding department and told them I want my reception from 6-10 and they seemed okay with it.
  21. Ohh another question I thought of that maybe you know the answer too. If I decide not to have the 1 hour cocktail hour will they let me extend my reception 1 hour without charging me for it? I know when I go to destination weddings, after the ceremony I want to go back to the room and get ready for the reception and I generally opt of cocktails anyway. I have noticed that most guests at the destination weddings I have been too do that as well. I am also thinking that I remember reading that we get champagne after the ceremony anyways so this should be sufficient enough I would think.
