  1. Hi, thanks for responding!  Yes I was thinking of these for the beach reception.. http://www.etsy.com/listing/150697325/barefoot-sandal-simply-elegant-white?ref=sr_gallery_17&ga_search_query=barefoot+sandals&ga_order=most_relevant&show_panel=true We are planning an indoor reception at the italian rest so I was going to have the girls wear whatever they want and feel more comfortable getting their groove on in ;) Congrats on your wedding!    Any advise to use future Riu brides?!  I heard the choices of cakes for the wedding were not as good, what did you think about them?  Did you find a english speaking minister?  If not, how was the ceremony with a translater?  We might be out of luck as well, the few recommned ones are already booked. Thanks again for all the helpful information!! Danielle
Oh, I didn't realize they had the option to have your reception at the Italian restaurant...we were only offered the Brazilian or steak house. I would definitely recommend the steakhouse, it is the only restaurant close to the beach, but it is very open and they can close off part of the restaurant just for your party. I was pleased with our cake, the wedding coordinator will show you pictures of some options and flavors. We got a simple 2 tier, they put some flowers, and we brought our own cake topper. We did use the regular minister and translation and it all worked out pretty good. I would highly recommend the house photographer and DJ, and open bar option. And inquire about the fire show, it was well worth the $. If you PM me your email address I can send you any pictures I have from the WC. You can also add me to FB and see all my professional pictures from my big day.
  2. HI ladies!  I am getting married at the riu palace bavaro in punta cana aug 3rd but I am asking anyone who has been married or visited the riu resorts.  I was planning on wearing and having my bridesmaids wear barefoot sandals for the beach ceremony.  Our ceremony starts at 600pm.  Some of my bridesmaids are worried the sand will be to hot to walk in the barefoot sandels.  I wouldnt think so being it will be 6pm but does anyone have any experience that could let me know if thats a good idea? Thank you and congrats to everyone! =)) Danielle
Hi Danielle, the beaches in PC are white sand so it does not get hot like the sand we have around here, it actually stays quite cool under your feet. Are you planning on having them wear barefoot sandals for the ceremony and then wear shoes for the reception dinner?

that is a great idea!!! how many mugs are you packing and what is the weight per mug?

I gave them out in advance to all those that werent travelling in our group; and gave the rest out to our guests the night before our departure. That way everyone can carry thier own on the plane, and make use of the stuff (snacks) during travel.

I'm not sure how much they weighed, but I'm sure it would have been a lot if we chose to ship them to our destination.

  4. Hello, I've been back for about a week from my destination wedding in Punta Cana, I thought I'd share what was used from my OOT bags (actually did OOT travel mugs instead). Our mugs were 22 oz from Discount mugs.com so they fit quite a bit inside.

    700

    Used:

    the travel mug

    SPF chap stick

gum (on the plane for taking off and landing)

Nutrigrain Bars (early flight, not everyone had time to grab breakfast)

Chocolate bars (all inclusive, all you can eat, but sometimes you just want some real chocolate)

    pepto bismol chewable tabs

welcome pamphlet - mostly for common spanish phrases

    Motrin

    TUMs

    Emergen-C powdered drink

    Not used or not mentioned:

    bandaids

    propel powdered drink

    sanitizing hand wipes

My advice...don't go overboard. Nobody wants to lug around a bunch of stuff on thier vacation.

  5. Hey everyone, I've loved seeing all of your creations, the ladies in your life will love them and won't believe you put the effort into making them yourself. My big day was just a littleover a week ago, here are some of the professional pictures I got back of my hangers.

  6. Alright ladies...I need some help!! I LOVE the idea of the OOT bag and everything you can put in it. Unfortunately, I live in Ontario and every website that's been posted or that I have found for travel sized items is American and shipping to Canada is EXPENSIVE. Anyone out there that lives close to the Ontario border want to order these items and then ship them to me??? I just can't afford the shipping to my area. I don't know what else to do...you can't really find the individual packets of tylenol or imodium anywhere in Canada....we just spent the day looking. Also, we leave April 9th...so its crunch time! Anyone have any other solution to this problem?
Hi there, I bought pepto bismol chewable tablets...they come in sheets of six tablets and I just cut them into little strips of 2 to put in my bags. My mom lives in the states, she was able to get me the individual packets of motrin from sam's club.
  7. Did you buy the pre-made ones. I just can't imagine paying the prizes to have someone make them and I have made something I like. We have spent a lot of money on shipping items and at this point, I do not want to spend any more money (especially not on shipping). While I was looked on the internet the other day about this topic I found some info on another forum that suggested using clip on earing clips. I think I will do that as I can't find these anywhere locally. Thank goodness for Michaels coupons! I know this is completey off topic, but I wouldn't want anyone to have the experience I have had with picaboo. So I got boudoir pics done as a surprise for by fiance (to give him before the wedding). Anyways, the pictures turned out good and I had a groupon for picaboo (BAD CHOICE). I ordered the book and on the very first page there are ugly marks that look like water marks. I should note that the book I ordered is regular $60 (thank goodness I didn't pay that). So I contacted picaboo and they sent me a new one, same problem. Contacted them again, figured out it was an issue with the background, so fixed that and they sent it again. So just last week I got the 3rd book in the mail and the first page is now good, but there are ink drops throughout the ENTIRE BOOK! I was so angry and contacted them immediately. I demanded they have someone quality control the book before they mail me another one as I now have 3 books I can't do anything with. They agreed to do this, but in my opinion this is completely ridiculous. If they had quality control on the books in the first place, then we wouldn't have this problem. This was the first time I used picaboo and definately will be the last. Another thing is that each time I talked to customer service they had to view the project again, so who knows how many ppl have seen these pictures by now!. So frustrating. So just wanted to say save yourself the hassle! On a positive note though, I really like the layflat pages. If anyone has suggestions of a photobook site that offers this and have positive feedback I would love the suggestions. I really want to have a photobook with layflat pages for our wedding album.
I just ordered by photo book from blacks.ca. At least I know they are a reputable company, I just didn't feel comfortable talking the chance with an online business . They are having a sale on photo books until February 10th,and I'm sure they have the layflat option. My photo book came to about $30 for a 5x7 hardcover book with 27 pages. I just used their online tool to create the book, which seemed to have another of options and was pretty easy to use. I didn't pay shipping because I'm picking it up from the store. I figure if there are any issues with the book once received I can at, east take it back to the store, talk with a real person, and show them my problem. I'll let you know how it turns out.
  8. Hello ladies, I love the look of bouquet jewelry, and I've decided to have one single starfish in my bouquet. I cannot decide if I'd like a natural starfish or a jeweled starfish. Here are pictures of each, can you help me? My colors are fuchsia and orange with maybe a hint of lime green and I plan on doing natural starfish as boutonniers for the guys (see below but in white) ALT=""http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/content/type/61/id/183534/width/350/height/700[/img] ALT=""http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/content/type/61/id/183532/width/350/height/700[/img] ALT=""http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/content/type/61/id/183533/width/350/height/700[/img]

Thank you so much for your advice.  I haven't heard very good things about Signature Vacations... I was honestly hoping to stick with Air Canada, Westjet, or Transat....

I don't know if Detroit is much of an option for us since many of the guests are from all across Ontario (including northern Ontario...).

Hoping to find a travel agent soon.

I see you are from London also!  Did you use a travel agent locally?  Any recommendations?

    Thanks!

The travel agent I'm working with currently is from the Sarnia area, he has booked vacations for me in the past. Prices are rediculous right now and i'm really staring to feel the heat to book because I have now < 5 months until my wedding. Most of our guests are from Michigan, Sarnia and London, with the exception of a handful of people from the GTA, so it makes sense for us to depart from Detroit again.

If you have guests from all over Ontario you may be better off contacting RIU directly to see if you can get a group rate on a block of rooms, and then have each guest book thier own flight or book flights through a TA.

My FI and I have decided on Mexico for our DW.  I would love to have our wedding at the RIU in the Mayan Riviera, but it seems that most Canadian carriers do not offer packages there.  Any Canadian brides for the RIU on the Mayan Riviera?  Did you book flight and hotel separately or go with a provider?  If so, which one?

    Thanks!

Hi Dina, we had a group of 12 stay at the ClubHotel Riu Tequila (Myan Riviera) back in Feb 2011 (where my FI purposed). I think we used 'Apple Vacations' and flew out of Detroit because it was just as close as Toronto but cheaper. If you want to fly out of Canada, I believe it is 'Signature vacations' that does most of the Riu Resorts. The resort we stayed at was not directly on the beach, it was about a 5-8 minute walk, i would suggest staying at one of the sister RIU resort that are located directly on the beach, i'm sorry, i don't remember the names of them. The  nice thing about Riu though, is that you can eat at, use the pools, beaches and bars of any of the neighbouring sister resorts! If you have any questions let me know, I'll do my best to help :)
