  1. @@MrsHK we're headed to Tulum rfor the honeymoon. Have our "eat drnk almost married" party this weekend so I'll get a PM out to you soon. Hope it works out for both of us :)

@@MrsHK should have said MR/ MRS block letters

Perfect, you could stop on your way to Tulum for me to buy some things. Looking forward to seeing photos and pricing of everything!  :) Have a great party this weekend!

  2. @@MrsHK it is you! Sorry we can't have string lights at the sky deck, we really wanted them, but we're still working on designing how we want things to look. I'll probably contact you closer to the wedding to rent some stuff from you :). I think renting things locally as much as we can is the way to go :). I hate hauling a lot of luggage :P

That's too bad about the sky deck not allowing string lighting. I'm sure the twinkle of the stars and whatever lighting you choose to have on your tables will be just as beautiful!  :)  You've got lots of time to decide on your decor, don't worry. Let me know if you need a hand with any decisions along the way, I'd be happy to help! I love looking at other bride's Pinterest boards to see if I can suggest stuff! I may be married now but I'm still wedding obsessed.  :D

    Card/Guestbook Table:

I’m really excited about this, in part because I’m renting some items from our own MrsHK (Katy).  I love renting from her, because it means that I have less stuff to drag down to Riviera Maya in my luggage. I’ve also found her to be incredibly helpful in terms of giving advice about the area and pulling off a destination wedding in Playa.

    Here is my table inspiration:

I’m renting the brown suitcase and globe from Katy.

I’m renting lanterns from Katy in gold and white that will go between the palm fronds (lit with tea lights):

Thank you so much for your kind words, and I'm so happy your wedding was everything you dreamed! You and Joyce were a pleasure to work with. I can't wait to see photos of everything put together.  :)  Congrats again, and here's to a happy and healthy marraige for you and your new hubby!

  5. @@JenniferM thanks for asking that question- we are thinking of using the paper lanterns too but the price for 40 lights seems quite excessive. We were thinking about potentially bringing our own.

  6. Wow, I love your wedding video! Would be my Dream come true!!! I'm hoping I will be able to find someone like that to capture our moments!

I noticed your photographers were from Canada, how did that work out?

Do you have any suggestions for a lighting and music equipment rental place? My FI is a pro DJ, so we would like to rent some equipment for 4-5 days to be able to have some nice sound at the villa.

    Thank you so much!

And congrats! You too look amazing together. Not sure if your hubby dressed himself, but he looks super stylish. Usually we girls never notice the groom, in your case I was starring at both of you:))) looked like a very fun wedding!

Thank you so much! Our really good friend Tom (from Vancouver) filmed it for us. He has some experience editing, but it was his first wedding video. Pretty amazing, especially for a first try!

The photographers from Canada (Luckygirl.ca) were amazing too. I actually found them on this forum through another Canadian bride. We had originally booked one of the higher quality photographers down here, and they were going to cost $4600 for 8 hours of coverage and a limited amount of edited images. With Luckygirl, we did a 5 hour shoot the day before the wedding, they stuck around for 14 hours on our wedding day, and we ended up with over 1000 edited images! It also ended up being less money than the other photographer was going to be, even when we factored in their flights, accommodation and photography fees.

For our audio equipment we used JSAV - http://www.jsavmexico.com/Contact_Us.html

They were great but make sure you pay attention the the quotes and are specific with the details of all the little charges. Our quote was increased with something they said was included originally, so I had to negotiate a bit. That's often how things work in Mexico.

Thanks for the compliments on Mikee's outfit! He did choose his own outfit, although I was there helping him try everything on. But the vision of the outfit was all his!  :)

  7. Hello Tulum brides, and congrats on your upcoming Tulum weddings! My husband and I were married at El Bistro Ziggy Beach at The Beach & Cabañas Tulum Hotels. The venue and hotels were great, and the staff there are amazing! Every time we go back we feel like family.

We actually live down here in Playa Del Carmen, and Tulum is our favourite place along the entire coast. If you have a wedding coming up, feel free to ask me any questions you may have, as I have spent quite a bit of time down there, as well as lots of time researching all the venues. You can see our engagement and wedding photos in my signature, both of which were in Tulum. (Both the town and the beach)

We also just got our wedding video that our friend put together for us, if you'd like to get a feel for the area! He really captured the feeling of Tulum with the video. The song we chose was written by a musician that spent two months down there living in a tent, so the song really feels like the area as well.

Here's a blog post with more info on the venue and our friend who shot the video: http://loveandrum.com/marry-me-katy-mikee-in-tulum

  8. @girlinthecity97: Have you considered bringing someone down with you? Often the prices of the best videographers down here are inflated because they know people will have to pay higher prices if they want good quality. That's what happens when there isn't a ton of competition to keep the prices low.

Our friend from Vancouver just shot this for us last May. I'm not saying fly him down to film for you or anything, but having him film for us was much more affordable than anyone down here. Maybe you could do something similar?

  9. We just got our wedding video from our wedding back in May! Our friend did it for us, so we told him he could take his time with getting it to us.

We were married in Tulum on May 22nd, 2013. Although I was a 2013 Canadian bride, I still wanted to share this with all my fellow Canucks!  :)

  12. @@lydiasusi We actually live down here in Playa Del Carmen, so I collected a lot of them down here. Others I purchased from brides that had brought them down. I've also transported some lanterns, bottles and glass candle holders down here myself and if you use bubble wrap you should be ok.

I also have all of my decorations available for rent if you would like to have a looks at all my photos and my price list! PM me your email and I'll send you everything. When and where are you getting married?

  13. @@MrsHK I just looked through your photos. OMG LOVE! Can't wait for our big day in just a couple of weeks!!!!!

Thank you so much! Our photographers were amazing, they stuck around for 14 hours on our wedding day! We trusted them completely and were so happy with the way the captured the day.

I'm not sure where the graphics for our timeline came from, my husband put that together. He had two wedding tasks — all the graphic design/print materials and showing up at the alter. He accomplished both magnificently, if I do say so myself!  :P

  14. Just got engaged a month and a half ago, and we are planning a wedding for December 2014 in the Mayan.  I have narrowed it down to 2 resorts: Iberostar Tucan and the Grand Sunset Princess...how on earth did everyone decide on which hotel to go with? I am feeling so overwhelmed right now!!

Any planning tips or advice would be greatly appreciated, as I am feeling rather clueless right now! THANKS!

Picking your resort is a very hard decision! One thing that might help is considering whether your guests will want to leave the resort to explore Playa Del Carmen at all, or if you think they'd be happy staying around the resort most of the time. The Iberostar Tucan is in an area called Playacar, which is a 15 minute walk or a 5 minute, $7 cab ride into town. The Grand Sunset Princess is a 20 minute, $25 cab ride into town.

I'd also have a look at recent Tripadvisor reviews for both places to get an overall feel of both resorts. Hope that helps a little bit!  :)

I've been cranking through a lot of stuff lately… just finished the luggage tags we're sending to all of our 55 guests with a packing list, I've drafted the ceremony (we're doing a symbolic ceremony with my god father as the officiant), attendant gifts all bought, table assignments done and now I'm taking a stab at the Welcome letter for out of town bags. I have to say, this stuff is exhausting! I get why people pay so much to have other do this! Does anyone have any tips or examples of welcome/schedule letters to share? I'm feeling like my creative writing is zapped after the ceremony writing!

    Thanks!!

This was our cover page for our Welcome Book, our wedding day schedule of events, and info for our group activities. Keep it fun and simple, and to the point! :)

We said the "when hunger strikes" part on the first page because we gave a couple of pages of suggestions of restaurants in the area for lunch and dinner, as well as fun bars to go to. We weren't at an all-inclusive, so we thought some guidance and info about the places to eat in the area would be beneficial for our guests.

I LOVE all your wedding pictures, can I ask where you purchased that tote with the anchor on it?  We are doing a nautical theme wedding and it suits the theme perfectly.

    Thank you,

Thanks Melissa! The anchor totes are from Discountmugs.com. Our friend designed our logo for us as a wedding gift. He's very talented, and it was so amazing that he took the time to design and draw the logo by hand and then digitize it. We sent the artwork to Discountmugs.com and they screen printed it for us.

This is our wedding logo, but we left our names and date out for the tote bags and tumbler mugs so that people could feel more comfortable reusing them in the future.

No worries! I may buy some anyhow, since I've started renting the decor we used for our wedding out to brides, and there may be some other girls interested in them. I posted about the items I have for rent a couple of posts up, if there's any things you want for your reception decor but don't want to lug down here. I know you're still a year out, but browsing never hurt! :D
