About ChelsH

  1. JBean, this post has lots of info about customs: http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/41422/customs-in-mexico-an-effort-to-gather-the-info-in-one-thread I think anything not considered a personal item, something you would normally use while traveling, is considered in the $300 limit. Let me know if you have any other questions.
  2. Anything you have that is not a personal item, something you would normally take and use while traveling, has to value under $300 per traveler. It is my understanding that anything over $300 could be subject to taxes and that is why it is important to have the receipts. Otherwise I think they estimate the worth of the items you have. I also included a note, in English and Spanish, that stated how the items would be used in the wedding and attached it to the receipts. This thread really helped me: http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/41422/customs-in-mexico-an-effort-to-gather-th
  3. No worries JBean! Basically, anything you bring that is not for personal use, or what you would normally take on vacation, cannot be valued over $300 per traveler. My understanding is that if it is over $300 they can charge you taxes on it. That is why it is important to have receipts so you can prove the cost instead of letting them estimate. My stuff was a little over $600 so I had to fix the prices a little on the receipts I printed. I also attached a note, in English and in Spanish, to the receipts saying what it was for and how it was going to be used in the wedding. This thread was
  4. JBean, I'm not 100% sure about this but I think it might help a little to split up the welcome bags. Also, I didn't have all the receipts either but I printed some up for the stuff I was missing and didn't have any problems with the printed ones. There are some templates in Word that you can use. I think as long as you can justify that it is for a wedding and under $300 per person you will be fine, even if they pull you to the side.
  5. Congrats Nikki! Have fun and enjoy! The weather called for rain the entire time we were there but it didn't rain during the day until the Monday after the wedding. Hopefully it will be great for you guys. Can't wait to hear about it when you get back! I posted a review for our wedding and some pics under the resort review section. I tried to post it here as well but it hasn't gone up yet. Maybe you can view it through this: http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/products/valentin-imperial-maya/reviews/5137 I also did one for Blue Lens: http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/product
  6. Photographer: Since Blue Lens was included in the package we decided to stay with them. Ashley did our pictures and she was awesome. She met me at the spa as they were finishing up my hair and makeup and stayed through the cocktail. I think she would have stayed for some of the reception too but since the Mexican trio did not show up and not much was going on at the cocktail hour we told her she could go. We also did a TTD with her the next week and had sooo much fun. In the end we got the TTD session, all the wedding pictures and TTD pictures on disc and all the edited wedding pictures
  7. Cocktail Hour: Cocktail hour was good. The setup in the gazebo was really nice, the food was good and they had a full bar with a great bartender. We had wanted the Mexican trio to play during the cocktail hour but apparently they were stuck in traffic so they missed the entire thing. I was a little upset because we did not plan anything else for the hour and people were kind of sitting around with nothing to do. Also, the mosquitoes were really bad. We had put Off in all the welcome bags but it wasn’t really helping. Veronica brought us some insect repellant, a Mexican brand, and it w
  8. Wedding/Package: We booked the Unforgettable Package and I am soooo glad we did. It included so everything we could have wanted. The couples massage was amazing and super relaxing. The candlelight dinner on the beach was really nice. The only bad thing was the weather. We made it through four courses and then it started to pour. We went back to our room and they brought the main course, dessert and a bottle of wine there but it took them 45 minutes to bring it. We were a little upset about that because we still had guests at the resort and had planned to meet them at the plaza for casi
  9. Hi guys! We just got back home last night and I have been trying to post a review but its not going through. So I'm going to copy and paste here. Hopefully it works. : ) First let me start by saying that we love the Valentin Imperial Maya. We were there 2 years ago and knew that it was where we wanted to get married so when we actually got engaged and started planning it was an easy decision for us. Travel: We booked our trip through Greg Thein at RWD Travel. He is affiliated with FunJet and Lomas Travel. We had never used a travel agent before and I was unsure that we
  10. Headed to the airport!! I will post details when we get back in two weeks. I hope everyone's planning is going well! Let me know if you have any questions. Happy planning!!
  11. Ahollo, these pics are beautiful!! Let us know who did them. We are getting super close too!! Leaving in 10 days and the wedding two weeks from tomorrow! I think we are beyond excited now and just starting to get impatient. I am hoping I will be able to get a planning thread started this weekend and if I do I will let you guys know here. Happy planning all!!
  12. Congrats and thanks for the awesome review Heidilynn! I was glad to hear they set all your decorations up how you wanted them. I have been a little worried about that. We are under the 60 day mark and I'm sooo excited! Can't wait to see you pics!
  13. JBean, which package did you purchase? We did the highest one, the Unforgetable I think, and a cocktail hour the day of the wedding is included in the package. If we want to do a private event on a day other than the wedding we have to pay extra. If you don't have the cocktail hour included in your package or you want to do an event on another day you still get the all-inclusive drinks at any of the bars or restaurants it just won't be a private event unless you pay the extra. We are just going to have our group meet in the the plaza for drinks on the days before the wedding instead of pay
  14. Hi Nicole, I'm getting married on October 1 so I can totally relate! I was getting super stressed out last month because I work full time and go to school at night so I had no time for wedding stuff. We set aside a couple of weekends to just do wedding stuff and it really helped. Once we got the invitations done we tackled welcome bags and decorations and in two weekends we got A LOT done. Plus my girlfriends came over and helped me out. My best advice is, if you can, devote a couple of weekend days to just do wedding stuff. Make a plan before...to do lists always help me. And enj
