  1. great point. My family is giving me the hardest time about a destination wedding in general. I really feel the need to do exactly as you say and make it about who we are as a couple and as individuals.
  2. We're still too far out to obtain group rates and what not yet, but do they typically come down pretty far for groups? We're looking the Palace Resorts in the Riviera Maya area and w/travel for 5 nights for 2 adults is like $2700 and I live in Florida! I really had hopes to keep the costs low for my guests, but now i'm a little concerned. Do you all have any suggestions as to what resorts may be more reasonable or whether prices drop significantly when booking for wedding groups?
  3. forgive me if this is stupid, but are we talking 1500-1600 for 5 days or are we talking about flights?
  4. My fiance and I are still finishing grad school up until our wedding so our budget is tight. Hopefully our 2 years of tightwad planning will pay off! Engagement Pics $100 Save The Date Magnets $60 Invitations $100 Mailing Cost $150 Resort Stay- 11 nights $4,200 Flight- 2 people $600 Reception Cost $5,500 Wedding Dress $1,000 Suit $250 Rings $1,000 Favors $300 Stationary Items $100 Bridal Accessories $300 Wedding Party Gifts $300 Clothes for Trip $1,000 Photographer $5,500 $20,460
  5. That sounds great! I dont know if I could handle planning a wedding in a split location like that. Too much stress!
  6. We've bounced around on the idea of getting married pre/post wedding or going through the hassle of doing it in Mexico. I think we're going to bite the bullet and just do it in Mexico so that our guests dont feel "cheated". They are spending a lot of money to see your marriage, I guess the least I can do is actually go through the legal hassle there. Its a personal choice though
  7. Your wedding is only a month away now! Did you ever decide on Playacar Palace?
  8. Has anyone learned anything more recently? I know its been a while
  9. ekcmexico- how did your wedding go? What did you think of the place? It was suggested to me to stay away from Moon Palace because it was basically a wedding factory, very impersonally. I'm interested to hear how Playacar Palace is!
  10. This place looked really nice, but the restricted hours for the restaurants seems so confusing for guests. How did (or do you think) this work out for your guests? Plus, there are no prices on their website for room rates. In this internet-oriented day and age that seems silly
  11. Congrats Dana! I'm so jealous! I wanted to do our wedding in Belize but it was too "exotic" for my parents. Boo for me, but yay for you!
  12. Someone suggested that I consider The Reef, and the Playacar area in general. Let me know how you feel about it I'm interested as well
  13. I'm not paying for my bridesmaids dresses, so I am being cost conscious when choosing the dress and also having them choose their own style as long as it is in the color I've chosen. I want them to feel good about the purchase, so it was important for me to let them have input. Everyone seems happy about the arrangement thus far
  14. I've looked at numerous Maggie dresses. I really like them. Are you all happy with their quality?
  15. Oh I love that dress Bonnie! Any pics of it on? I'm so curious how it looks on a person. I think its adorable
  16. Such different ideas than what I had initially come up with. Love it!
  17. All of these are so beautiful. We went iwith something a little different than the traditional so I'm a bit lost for what to choose for the wedding band.
  18. were you going to make your own centerpieces in mexico or were you paying to have them made? I'm desperately trying to figure out centerpieces and I am doing lime green and orange, but i dont want to pay the resort's prices for the centerpieces
  19. It seems to be common problem, more bridesmaids than groomsmen. I have 2 bridesmaids and my FI hasn't decided on any groomsmen yet. We still have lots of time, but I don't want it to be uneven. We'll see how it turns out but I dont think silly issues like this really make or break a wedding.
  20. I like Dilara's idea, but it is VERY personal. Who cares what everyone else says about the ordeal. I would imagine that the anticipation would indeed be heightened if you were apart, but what fun conversations would you and your FI have the night before! Either way, I'll be fine
  21. Ugh, I feel your pain. my FSIL is a little nuts and my 2 sisters are all i'm having in my wedding party. I love the ideas in here, but not sure what I'll do either. Have you made your final decision on the whole matter ChicagoBride?
  22. yay! More helpful info. My wedding isnt until 2012, but I"m finding all of this so comforting.
  23. I was debating on asking about the photographer situation as well for my 2012 wedding. I really dislike the style of the MP photographers and I'd hate that to be all that I have to remember my wedding though. This thread has been so helpful!
  24. I'm from orlando, but looking at Cancun for the wedding in June of 2012. you?
