  6. Hi @@bmillerick Congrats on your upcoming wedding! Picking your resort is the hardest part of your planning I think. There are just so many options out there! But not every option works for every bride and groom. Do you know what time of year you want to get married? Your budget and that of your guests, can be drastically affected just by that. As Joyce mentioned, do you want family friendly or adults only? Have you got a vision of what you want your wedding to be? Definitely get in touch with a destination wedding travel agent. They can help you work within your budget, look at your wants and don't wants and work with you to pick a resort that is going to fit with what you have in mind. The owner of this site, Wright Travel, are destination wedding specialists and I'm sure they would be able to help you put ideas together that will help you make your decision. The other thing is, depending on the resort you choose, you might be entitled to some perks from the resort that you wouldn't event know about but a good TA would! Sometimes they will offer free events, or resort credits that your guests can also make use of. Every resort is different in what they offer and what they include so the help of a qualified TA will be invaluable. Then once that decision is made and you start inviting your guests, the TA will be able to be there and answer all of your guests' travel questions and leave you free to concentrate on wedding planning! Once you have your resort and can apply for a date for your wedding, that's half the battle right there. Then you can start on the fun stuff and putting all of your other details together. You can contact Wright Travel through this site. Good luck and happy planning!
  7. Hi @@Akfranklin2014 Welcome to the site! One of the difficulties of having a wedding party, and a destination wedding, is dealing with personalities! You certainly find out who your friends are when it comes to your wedding! I have seen so many comments on this board about maids that didn't step up, mothers in law, guests. There probably isn't much that someone hasn't had to go through that hasn't been posted on this board. I think everyone goes through some sort of drama when they're trying to put together a wedding, never mind a destination wedding! Having said that, you're in a tough situation for sure. Being your MOH you definitely want her to be available for you for your wedding. But have you thought about what she's going to do on her own when you're busy with all of the other things that you'll have to do? Does it mean she'll be by herself while you're happy with your new hubby? Are you having dancing? If so, who will she dance with? If the relationship is new for her, that's the stage when you really don't want to be apart, and a romantic weekend away in the sun is definitely something conducive to a "sexy" weekend. It's difficult I know to think about having people at your wedding that you don't know, but maybe it's also a good chance to get to know this new man in your friend's life? Is there a balance you can find somehow that makes everyone happy? It's also difficult when people are putting out large sums of money on a vacation, to tell them they can't bring a "date" to help them enjoy that vacation. How would you deal with it if you were having a wedding at home? As for picking up your dad, is she now saying no? If not, don't worry about the memory lapse and go through the details again with her. If she has a new man, and is dealing with your wedding, then try to overlook the loss of memory and move on. If she is saying no, is there anyone else that can help you out with this? If it means getting him picked up, maybe let her have her new guy? Could you stay together with hubby to be instead? It's a stressful time for everyone, especially the bride and groom. Pick your battles and try not to sweat the small stuff. It will make your life easier and your wedding planning go much more smoothly. Good luck! I hope it works out ok for you!

  9. Hi. Looking at your questions, I would absolutely recommend that you talk to the owners of this site. You haven't mentioned which country you're looking at - I'm assuming Mexico? They don't charge for their services to answer the question you asked. The other great thing is - depending on the resort you choose, you might be entitled to some perks that you wouldn't even be aware of but a travel agent would be. I know some resorts offer credits to guests that can be used for excursions. Some resorts will allow the bride and groom to have a free event, like a cocktail hour if they have a certain number of guests/rooms booked. A good travel agent will be able to help you out with that. As well, a lot of the resort packages are good only for about 25 guests. You have to pay per person after that. Most of the time, if you pick a package, your linens are included, and a lot of the time, you'll get your canopy with draperies. It's so hard to pin down what one resort gives you because they're all different. Karisma properties are very popular with the brides here, as are the Palace resorts. Then there are the Gran Bahia properties that are beautiful. But you need to get a vision in your mind of what you want, what you don't want and what your budget is. Plus what kind of budget you want for you guests. Do you know what time of the year you want? Winter is a more expensive time to travel, especially February and of course during school breaks. Do you want adults only? Or will you have children attending? Are all your guests going to be at the same resort? You'll have the cost of guest passes if not. What about your photographer? Do you want a videographer? Most resorts charge an outside vendor fee if you don't use their recommended vendors. Some resorts won't allow any outside vendors at all. I know it sounds like a lot to think about, and in some ways it is. But once you make a resort choice, that's the biggest hurdle out of the way. And again, that's where a good travel agent comes in. Try reaching out to Wright Travel. Just see what they have to say. You've got nothing to lose by asking, and you just might gain some peace of mind. You could also read through some of the resort reviews and see what past brides have had to say. You'll get a ton of opinions here about resorts, but everyone's vision is different. I could very easily recommend our resort in Jamaica and where we renewed our vows in Mexico but they may not fit with what you want. Good luck! Please keep us posted on what you decide!

  14. @@sassldiva Congrats and welcome to the site! First question - do you have a travel agent yet that you're working with? If not, I would definitely recommend hunting one up. A good TA will help you out with what your'e looking for and help you with a budget as well, and also a budget for your guests to pay. There are so many resorts out there, and picking one is probably the hardest thing to get done. Once it's done, you're well on your way. You could definitely look through the resort review section and see what past brides have to say about their experiences, but yes - it does tend to bombard you with information. Everyone's ideas are different so it would be difficult for anyone to say specifically what resort will work for you other than a travel agent. Plus, once your guests need to start booking, a TA will be there to answer all of their travel questions leaving you free to deal with wedding plans! You don't say if you're in the US or canada, but the owners of this site are destination wedding specialists, can work with both countries and I'm sure could help you out with the information you're looking for. There are so many good ones here. Cute story about how you met. I spent more years than I care to tell about in Ottawa. I hate that they roll the sidewalks up at 9pm! You've picked a beautiful resort. There have been a couple of brides recently married there and I believe the reviews are all good. Looking forward to more thread... Good luck and happy planning!
  17. @@kelly609 Hi! Congrats and welcome to the site! If you've got lots of questions, this is a good place to be to get them answered! The ladies here are always willing to share. I'm a GBPJ bride - Oct 2011. We loved the resort and fell in love with Jamaica! There is a whole GBPJ thread, which I've added below for you. Definitely read it!! Whatever you have to ask, it's there believe me! This thread was so awesome for me when we got married. I know the thread is long but I'm sure it will give you more information than you're looking for. The Dolce Vita is considered semi-private, not private. Depending on the size of your group, all of the comments I've heard are that the brides didn't even realize there were other people in the restaurant. If you're looking for a completely private venue then you can always rent out the Pisces club, which is down on the water, but it will cost. Last amount I heard I think was over $2000 but again, it's private. They will close it off for you and no one else can get in. I've heard though that you need bug spray depending on the time of year because it is right down at the water. But it's so pretty when it's all lit up at night. As to the gazebo, if you look through the gallery, and through the thread you'll see photos of the gazebo. I honestly can't remember if it's lit at night or not. I don't think it is just because I don't believe there is power down there. But don't quote me on that - take a look through the thread and I guarantee the answer is there. Things have changed I know since we got married there four and a half years ago but I would go back there in a heartbeat. We loved the resort and had a great time. I posted a couple of photos as well in my gallery if you take a look. Good luck and happy planning! http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/topic/44634-any-gran-bahia-principe-runaway-bay-brides-out-there/

  20. @@BritML0121 Congrats on your upcoming wedding! You will love this site for planning. There are always tons of ideas and suggestions from the brides past and present and they're always willing to share. Jamaica is a very popular place for a destination wedding and as you can see you've already had some great suggestions. I'm also a Jamaica bride but a different resort and we fell in love with the country. As to photographers and videographers, you'll get varying opinions from everyone mostly because what everyone is looking for is different. Style is a big factor as well as price and what a package includes. Jamaica does have some amazing photographers to choose from. I know there is a recent bride from SWO (February of this year) that used Misha Earle and her photos are stunning. I would suggest you take a look at the reviews section of this website and see what past brides have to say then take a look at their respective websites and see if any particular "style" speaks to you. We used Merrick Cousley and were more than thrilled with what he put together for us so definitely check him out as well. He was super easy to work with, very responsive in terms of communication and competitively priced. And yes some photographers will assist in some way with pricing to work around resort vendor fees but I wouldn't count on that. Just consider it a bonus if it happens. Good luck and happy planning!

  23. Hi ladies. I definitely am looking forward to the next meet up. I had to leave early from the last one just with not feeling great. But we will have 2 new brides and the last bride to be to meet up with! I can't believe that will be the entire group covered!! Wow. Dates for me for may are a bit tough. We leave for Vancouver on Tuesday night for my dad's 95th on Wednesday so the 13h is no good for me. As Ashley said, the long weekend is the 20th and we're already booked with the trailer for the first camping weekend so that poofs the 20th too. We're doing a concert in Niagara Falls on the 27th so that trashes that date for me too. Our entire month of May for weekends has been booked. It's nuts. What about another night of the week, and maybe just making it an earlier night? Would that work for anyone? I'm fine through June but I'm sure we would all like to see @@ashhtayy before she leaves.
