We're based in the Riviera Maya, so are familiar with our local Grand Bahia Principe Akumal's policy of not allowing any outside photography vendors to enter their resort.  If photography is important to you, this is one factor to consider in your resort choice.

Welcome to the boards, and Congrats on your Tulum wedding next spring, emilywhite!!! Tulum has such great laid back ambiance, you're sure to have an amazing wedding celebration there!

You're right about being concerned bringing in a photographer with you. It is illegal for someone to come to Mexico and photograph a wedding without proper working papers. The same way people can not just travel to the USA or Canada and work. Cancun airport is aware of this and as you will see... scans all luggage arriving when you go through customs. People traveling with more than one camera will need to answer for the equipment.

We're not trying to scare you... just give you the facts of working in a foreign country.

Do you really want to take a chance of ruining your Big Day after all your careful planning and attention to details? Or take the risk of not having a photographer at all ~ and not getting that precious photo story record you would cherish for a lifetime?

It's your choice.

You're also right about outside professional photographer and vendor fees being high. I guess you need to decide whether it's worth it, and that may not be an easy decision.

In case you haven't already seen it, here's a link to the Now Jade's FAQ page with a "live chat" window available there to ask any question you have directly.....like whether they have a penalty if 80% of your guests are not staying at their resort.

Congrats on your upcoming Mayan Riviera destination wedding, AliciaW and welcome to the boards!

We advise our wedding couples to consider the sunset time on the day of their wedding and set the ceremony time at 2 hours before sunset. That's optimal timing to capture that magical Golden light of sunset for their newlywed photos - Pure! Gold!

Great article ckinkenbine, thx for sharing! We agree Ivan Luckie is a great professional photographer - would Luv to see some of the photos he captured for you guys!

However there is one "sticky" point you make in your advice.....bringing a photographer friend/relative from home. That can be a problem that causes stress you really don't need on your Big Day!

Is the person you're asking to take photos for you a friend? If so, it's quite another function to do both - capture your wedding in photos as a photographer AND be a wedding guest who enjoys your celebration.
