  1. I was too nervous to get it done when I was down there (just b/c of the luck we'd been having lately about things arriving late, so I didn't want to take a chance of that luck extending to my dress!), but my mom and one of my bridesmaids was able to get the wrinkles from transport out by ironing it through a pillowcase!! It was risky for sure, but the dress looked SO MUCH better after being ironed... Kurlyks; I think I saw your wedding reception dinner in the italian restaurant! I was having dinner there with some of my family. Anyway, I had such an AMAZING experience at the Playacar Palace. Everything turned out PERFECTLY! Laura was so great to work with, she really helped make everything go smoothly and did a great job of setting everything up for us (we brought our own decorations). Once I get photos back from our photographers, I will make an album so that you can all see how everything came together! Also, that flower shop that Kurlyks recommended in town was AMAZING (http://www.floresrivieramaya.com/) the bouquets were so beautiful and their customer service was phenominal. They have an online-chat function on their website and the lady who works it is fluent in english so she can totally help you with any questions you have. After we placed our order online through email, we decided that we wanted to go to the shop in person to pay for it when we got there (and that way we could check out the shop and make sure everything was legit before paying!). Before we got there, the lady from the website chat agreed to meet us there to help translate (as the couple who own the shop don't speak much english), so she was a great tool to help us get everything we were looking for. The couple that owned the shop were also so helpful, they showed us actual examples of the flowers for our bouquets and even customized their flower spray ant tested it on the flowers right infront of our eyes so we could ensure that the blue accent flowers were the exact color to match our wedding colors. They also showed us multiple rolls of ribbon to ensure that we had the right color to match. When it came to delivery time, they were punctual, and the flowers were fresh/beautiful/perfect. One last thing; Tanya, you are amazing. Thank you so much for being such a huge help throughout this process. You have no idea how much I appreciate everything!
  2. Just wondering if anyone who's gotten married at playa car used the dress cleaning/steaming services prior to their wedding? I am nervous about sending my dress to Cancun 3 days before my wedding, when they say it takes 2-3 days to ship, clean, and ship back. Did anyone take their dress somewhere in the city of Playa del Carmen to be steamed? Tara

  4. Hey all! Just wondering if any of you did (or are planning to do) a slide show at the playacar palace? I know the playacar doesn't have any of this equipment, so who did you go through to pull it together? I was planning on bring a projector with me, and we're doing our reception in the south solarium so I was hoping I could just project the images onto exterior wall of the building? (Anyone who has been there, can you tell me if that would even work?) I'm curious to see how others solved this problem....please let me know!! Thanks! Tara

  6. Hi everyone, Just wondering if anyone knows about the photography policy at the playa car palace. We already have our photographers booked as guests at the hotel, so being that they're just "paying guests" who will be "taking some pictures" while they're there I'm hoping this will be allowed. Has anyone else gone this route? If so, could you please shed some light on this issue; how the palace handled it, if it was frowned upon etc... Thanks!!
  7. Congrats Tanya! I'm so glad things went well for you! This makes me very relieved because I'm starting to get nervous with the lack of communication I have recieved thus far (as well as the lack of effort I'm getting from my travel agent...so far i've found a better price on EVERY flight he's quoted us..grrr!! But that's a totally separate issue so I wont get into that. haha) Just wondering, at what point did the wedding planner get a hold of you? Our wedding is in early May 2011 (so 6.5 months from now) and I haven't received any contact with any wedding planner yet. Not sure if I should be worried about that or not? Also, we will have about the same number of guests as you, so I'm wondering what kind of a deal you got on the rooms (cost per night for single/double etc occupancy)? Our travel agent quoted us on a marked-up "deal" (yes...he marked up our deal from the resort so that in a 7-day stay our guests would only actually be getting a $60 discount on the total cost) so I have no idea what the resort actually quoted us prior to his mark up). If I can find good enough information via such ladies as you (and others on this forum!) I will be bypassing his "help" and getting things done on my own, but I need to have some basis as far as prices to bring to his attention. Also, did you get your 7-free room nights b/c of the number of guests you got? I really appreciate you taking the time to answer these questions!! If you dont feel comfortable posting any of your answers publicly feel free to send me a private message!! Thanks!! Tara

  10. Thank you so much Steph!! We really appreciate being able to use some pics. Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if there is an age minimum for this resort? I am confused b/c I looked at so many other resorts and many had a minimum age requirement (usually around 12yrs old) to be allowed to stay there, and I can't remember if I saw something about Playacar (I now can't find anything on the website that talks about ages or children so I'm just wondering if anyone knows if there is such a restriction on Playacar?)
  11. Steph71: You took some beautiful photos of Playacar (from the link you posted to your online album)!! We're setting up our wedding website, and I'm wondering if you would be alright with us using 1 or 2 photos from your collection? (The photos on the actual Palace website are encrypted so they can't be copied, and we wont be going there until our actual wedding so we wont be able to take photos on our own) Your help would be greatly appreciated, but if you'd rather keep your photos private, that is totaly understandable!
  12. CamilleA: Oh that is too bad that the sun doesn't set over the beach, but I guess it makes sense (being that we're on the eastern side)...i guess sunrise will be nice though! Kurlyks: I understand your concerns about onlookers; I totally don't want to feel like a public spectacle! And the large number of weddings being performed on our weekend does raise a few issues as well...I feel as though we're all looking for our "special day" but it's not so special when you're being pumped through the ceremonial chain hour after hour....hmm...

I'm gonna have to get some rooms blocked off fast, lol! How many people are you inviting? We are going to be inviting around 80ppl, but we're only expecting about 20 to actually come (we know we're asking a lot of ppl to come down to a destination wedding). I looked and saw that 3 time slots have been booked on the friday (may 6th) and 4 time slots have been booked on the sat (may 7th) so there will be a few weddings there during that time! That live webcam feed from the resort next door is a really handy tool! That will be a good way to gauge sun-down etc for pictures and what not. Where are you doing your ceremony by the way? I saw on a couple of the wedding websites of other ladies on here that the popular choice seems to be the north solarium...? Or have you considering doing it right on the beach? I'm not sure what to do...I dont want to sweat my face off on the beach, but it would be beautiful!!
  14. thank you for all the nice welcomes ladies!!
