  1. Hi everyone! I got married in Punta Cana in 2011 and used this site on a daily basis to get tons of helpful info. Now I am researching info for my girlfriend who is having a destination wedding next year, and am wondering if this exists? I am looking for a site that gives me wedding package pricing for a big chunk of the DR resorts. All in one place, instead of going from one hotel website to another which is more time consuming. I know in the past I did my comparison by going to all the different hotel sites, but if there is a site that lists the package pricing info for several resorts and allows a quicker comparison, I'd love to know if it exists and where! Thanks ahead of time for your input!

This is for the brides/bridesmaids who got their hair and/or makeup done. I'm definitely getting my hair done but I think I can do my own makeup. I'm wondering what recent brides thought of their hair/makeup. The spa prices have gone up quite a bit and I was wondering if it would be worth it to say, have my grandmothers hair or makeup done as a gift, etc.. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi kris2012,

I got married at the GP in July and got my hair done there along with my mom, mother-in-law and 2 bridesmaids. First tip I can give you is to check and see how many stylists they have now and whether or not the A/C is working. Unfortunately I had the awful luck that the A/C was not working on the morning/early afternoon of my appointment!! AND there is only ONE stylist. yes, just one. I would e-mail Carolina now or closer to your wedding to see what the situation is with stylists because if it wasn't for me getting to the salon at 12 noon for my 5pm wedding ceremony, who know whether I would have had the chance to get my hair done!

I have medium length curly hair that was blown dry and styled and just imagine going through that when it is already 90+ degrees inside! NOT one of the best moments for me at the Palladium, I wish Carolina could have given me a heads up in that regard!

Oh and yes it is pricey, I paid about $125-50 for my hair to be washed, dried and styled. The rest of the wedding party also were charged 100+.

If you have any other questions about anything, shoot me an email!!

This is the first time I have heard ANYTHING negative about Pastor York.  I am sorry to hear you had such a bad experience and on your wedding day no less.  I was under the impression that pastor york booked only 1 wedding a day but I could be wrong.  I will have to go back to my emails to see if we have confirmed our time as I don't believe we had that when I booked!

Hi torilynnsmith, Yes I was also sorry to have this bad experience after having such high hopes for his ceremonies, but was very disappointed. He definitely books more than 1 wedding per day at least in my experience! Have fun in your planning and congrats on your engagement :)

    hi LP,

Before my wedding I visited the Iberostar in Punta Cana while staying at the Grand Palladium. The taxi ride was about 15-20 long, I feel that most of the resorts are all about 10-20 min from each other in Punta Cana. I can e-mail you this google map I created while planning my wedding that pinpointed ALOT of resorts in Punta Cana, PM me and I can send it!

  6. HI ladies, congrats on your wedding planning!!

I had Pastor York do our ceremony on July 22 at the Grand Palladium in Punta Cana and overall my husband and I as well as my guests were NOT pleased with the service he provided. First, we had booked him for a 4pm ceremony and a week or two before the wedding, he asks if he can change our time to 5pm. Fine, we were okay with moving it to one hour later and were flexible to accomodate him.

The ceremony which was supposed to be at least 30 min. long was cut short to about 10-15 min! The pastor was late according to my husband and the guests waiting at the ceremony and when I asked my coordinator, this is why I was not picked up at my room to go to the ceremony site which was scheduled for 5pm. So I remember getting picked up AFTER 5pm to go to the ceremony (this resort is quite large so a little cart needed to pick me up and take me to the ceremony). I finally arrive there (we were moving at a turtle's pace because the cart was not large enough and were were squeezed in, another delay).

So while my husband is waiting for us to arrive as we are on our way, the Pastor told my husband that he would have to cut the ceremony short because he had another wedding to go to! He was upset that I was late when he was late in the first place!

Since I was in such a state of happiness walking down the aisle and during the ceremony, I remember noting that he cut out the readings and went straight for the vows and ring exchanges, but the anger over this didn't sink in until after. Overall the whole thing was about 10-15 min tops and once it was over he disappeared. Some guests even commented to us that he was cursing while waiting for me to arrive and start the ceremony! This to me was unacceptable.

Brides, as a warning, please make sure you check how many weddings he has for the day because he seems to overbook himself which risks your ceremony being CUT dramatically short. Do you want to take that risk? We even accomodated his time change.

Overall our whole wedding was beautiful and this did not ruin the day but I would have loved to have a more heartfelt and longer ceremony. We were NOT PLEASED with Pastor York and would not recommend him.

  8. I have a few leftover items to clear out! The items are:

    -Large tote bag from Cheaptotes.com - about 14 bags - $1.00 each

-Plastic key card holders with black strings- about 9 holders - $5 (strings included)

-Loops of string for attaching cards to tote bags - FREE

hi Brenners, I got my LED lights from Amazon for about $15 with shipping for a pack of 10 lights. I think they went up in price since, about $2 more. They come in other colors too, they are great!

This poll is a "what-if" this website existed in the DR. In the whole destination wedding planning process, my FI and I are considering creating a web store that perhaps can focus on a few DW items that would be bulky or fragile to travel with such as glass vases, large tablecloths, etc. This would remove the inconvenience of traveling with so much stuff and at the same time offer the customer a variety of options for centerpieces and say, table linens at a cheaper cost than renting or buying them at the resort.

Or another idea my FI and I are having is providing liquor to couples at the resorts (premium liquor), my FI is Dominican and has some connections to start finding out sources for this type of service. For now these are ideas we are considering for a store, the whole planning a destionation wedding has really opened my eyes to a need in this area of the Caribbean that has not been developed as of now.

  11. To respond to your question about DR having a Wal-Mart or Sam's Club, not in Punta Cana, which is one of the most popular resorts/DW spots in the DR in my opinion and experience so far reading this forum :) From what I know, their closest supermarkets are in the town nearby called Higuey but that is about an hour away, but nothing to the scale of a Walmart. I got quoted a ridiculous sum of money for centerpieces at my resort and that is why I am bringing my own centerpieces.

I plan to bring them on carry-on and my friends and family members are willing to help carry them on as well in their carry-ons since I will be taking about 6 sets of centerpieces. It's a 4 hour plane ride so it's not like they are traveling for that long and as long as we secure them well and pack carefully, they should make it ok. that's the plan!

  12. I am curious to know the interest in this idea, thanks for your input!!

    The question is:

Would you make purchases through a website that sold premium alcohol for your open bar, centerpieces, floral arrangements, beach themed and traditional decor, printed items like brochures and menus etc.? This online store would allow you to order the items you need and they would be delivered to your resort/hotel when you arrive to the Dominican Republic, normally 2-3 days before your wedding day.
