Then the legal wedding in Vegas was FABULOUS!!  If anyone is planning to have their legal wedding in Vegas, I highly recommend the Wynn.  The wedding coordinators were amazing to deal with!  They took care of every tiny detail and responded to every email within minutes.  I literally planned the whole thing in 24 hours and it turned out so gorgeous.  Here are a couple of pics...  Its kinda funny to see the height differences in our families (my parents are in the top pic, and his are in the 3rd pic down)

The white flowers behind me are not in my hair!  They are in a vase behind me, but look like part of my hairdo...hehe.

  3. Thanks Meredith! Can't wait to read your review! I am also having my wedding in May and am doing a 4pm ceremony. How was the weather like in May? Will it be too hot at 4pm?

Less is More - I can't believe they did that to you - that's unacceptable! I hope the ladies here who got married at Azul Beach were able to help you out!

I will post the review this week but in the meantime just wanted to let everyone know that I am here if anyone has questions... I remember when I was planning I just wanted people who had actually been there to give me cold, hard facts, LOL. Feel free to ask away...

  4. I think you can have your marriage cert translated to English here in Toronto. I believe it was Nicole or some past bride (sorry I can't remember her name!) from Ontario who told me that I could just use a translator from the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Ontario. I believe that's what she did too and she only paid $50!!

I did see 2 guys and 1 girl come in to give their blood during the time we were meeting with the coordinator - they were freaking out - one guy especially.  So don't be worried if it gives you the ebby jeebies - I think they see it all the time!
I do have my mexican marriage certificate in hand!  I forgot to get the english version while I was down there though!!! Even though it was in my detail sheet - but I guess we all forgot.  I am in the process of determining if I can still pay for one and have it sent here.

We stayed in a honeymoon suite ocean side and all of our guests were upgraded to the premium section.  I will post a detailed review in the next couple weeks but here is a summary of the events we had:

welcome cocktail reception at palapa yoga:  great canapes.  Our friend brought an amazing bose sound system and we danced a lot.  We also had a cigar roller which really impressed a lot of our guests. Very good security - they even tried to stop my sister from coming back from the bathroom b/c they said that there was a private event taking place!  LOL.

ceremony at beach zocolo:  wonderful location - still my favourite.  My guests told me that they even stopped people from crossing behind the ceremony.  Very important detail for brides who want a legal marriage at this resort - the ceremony CAN BE PREFORMED IN ENGLISH!  There was no problem with this - its not a requirement to have the ceremony in spanish at all!!!!  The judge was also open to adding anything we wanted before and after his "official speech".  He does have a script he has to say and the wording was fine to me - and again - it was spoken in ENGLISH!  (only emphasizing this b/c I know a lot of people on this forum have changed their decision to have a legal wedding in Mexico because they thought it needed to be spoken in spanish).  I added the hand ceremony and sand ceremony to our wedding and incorporated family.  One thing that took us by surprise is that you have to thumbprint your wedding certificate after you sign it - make sure you bring a wet nap to clean your thumb afterwards!  The judge had a dry napkin but it was hard to get the ink off our thumbs.  I was concerned that I may touch and damage my wedding dress - but in the end this did not happen.

Reception:  @ plaza zavas.  Very nice location.  Food was family style and servers served guests individually.  The assortment was amazing and guests loved the variety.  The lobster tail was a big hit.  Food was plenty and seconds were abundant for those who desired.  Amplifier was rented - great sound.  The only thing that kind of sucked is that when your time expires - they are quick to shut it down and start removing all the linens, decor etc.- but I guess this is to be expected - we just moved the party to the mojito lounge.   We hired the mariachi band - awesome dinner entertainment.  Big hit with the guests and nice touch to the ambiance.  Our cake was a cupcake cake and it was fantastic - better than I expected.  We had a petit cake on top with our personalized cake topper (bobble heads to our likeness).  It was a hit with guests and no where near what I thought it would cost.

Farewell group dinner at spoons:  awesome too!  Menu is std - ceaser salad, bean soup, choice of chicken and steak followed by cheesecake.  Great presentation and flavour.  Guests all complimented the food.  Only thing that happened is that some guests were really hungry when they got there and collected a few plates of snacks for the table from the buffet.  Apparently the servers did not look to pleased about this - but did not stop anyone from doing this.  The section they close off provides a cozy semi private area for entertaining your guests.  I think it makes a nice area for a wedding reception for those of you who are looking to save money by not hosting a private reception.  We were an hour late for our reservation - 7:30 instead of 6:30 - and they were still very accomodating.

My biggest recommendation:  bring your own photographer if you can afford it.  Our photographers were amazing.   They captured ALL of our events and had no strict time limits. Other things they did for us:

    1.  Engagement photos at the tulum ruins

    2.  Trash the dress #1:  used a long white dress from BCBG I purchased and we went to a cenote for some creative photography.  They got tonnes of underwater photos of us and photos that captured above and below the water line.  These are the photos I am looking most forward to seeing.  Even when we felt pressured to get back to the resort because of time constrictions - they kept encouraging more photos!

    3.  Trash the dress #2:  used the original wedding outfits - didn't trash them totally.  Lots of cool and amazing shots again.  Over 500 photos taken in this session alone.  LOL.

Our photographer is from the Toronto area - and I would HIGHLY recommend them to any bride!

I can't wait to see all these pics and more! I will post some when I get them.

Only thing I would do differently - stay longer!  Normally we are not fans of staying at an all-inclusive resort for more than a week but we wish we had chosen the 10 day option. Everyday we were busy with one thing or another and when we weren't - we were trying to spend time with all of our guests.  It left no alone time to unwind.  We decided to go away in April now...Even some of our guests requested info on extending their stay - a testiment to how nice it was to stay at this resort.

Good luck to all the ladies that continue to plan their weddings!  I will post better details and photos in a planning thread as I find the time!

    Natasha

So literally last saturday we fitted both of my dresses, my two bridesmaids, three dresses for my mom and a dress for my mother-in law.  She called me Monday morning saying everything was done!!! Wow so amazing and beautifully done.  If any one lives in columbus ohio area i know the BEST SEAMSTRESS!

Ok other things completed are my OOT bags and goodies, place cards and wine glass charms, my room cards ( i will pass these out at the welcome party and guest can swap room numbers so they know where to find each other and it encourages mingling), and menus.

So still working on excursion / important reminders letter and ceremony programs.  So needless to say improvement has been made and so happy everything is coming together in the nick of time! woot.gif

Here is a pic of our centerpieces.  We are going to have turquoise table runners and I'm considering having sand and seashells on the table, but I'm not sure if the sand will look bad.  So, maybe just some seashells.

  13. Nikki,
I also brought my iPOD and plug it into their sound system. Worked great! I do recommend bringing your charger. I had one of my friends go back to the hotel room and got us a charger during the reception.

Chong, Meghan said the sound system charges the iPod while it's plugged in. Did you use a different sound system?

Meghan, did you bring an adaptor for your laptop? Are the electrical sockets in Mexico same as the ones found in Canada?

  14. Hi Meghan,

So all we need to bring is our iPod and they will plug it into their sound system? There is no need to bring anything else? What about charging? How did you charge your iPod during the reception?

    Thanks.

    Nikki

I've seen the battery candle lights being used at the resort. I thought it was really cheap and corky but actually did not look too bad in a nice setup. You might want to consider looking into that.

Thanks murmel!! I live right downtown so Dixie/QEW is probably the closest! I think small battery run tealights and frosted votive holders might work. Thanks for the tips! I will look around for battery run tealights and frosted holders!

For the paper idea, you still have to use the glass votive holder. But by wrapping the paper around the glass holder, you just create a higher 'wall'- this might stop the wind from getting in. The flame won't be able to reach the paper, assuming you are using regular votive height candles inside the glass holders.

50 would be alot of laterns. Maybe less laterns but larger ones? Ikea perhaps? I would maybe look for the small battery run tealights and go that route. Perhaps you can use frosted votive holders, or colored ones to disguise the tealight?

If you go to the persons screen name, you will see a small blue down arrow. Hover over that and a drop down menu appears. From here, select PM (private message). Also if you go to view profile, certain members have some pictures they have posted and you can view them through that way. I have a few of the gazebos (but not decorated).

    Good luck!
