  1. JayBee thanks for the tips. For these and so many other reasons we decided to stick with booking at the resort. I am pretty impressed with all of the hassle-freeness so far. We decided to keepthat our booze budget at $2,000 period. We're doing this by setting up with our coordinator that we will have an open bar and cap at that amount, at which time it will be a cash bar. All in all we are doing a $200/pp budget which we hear is average for the resort at least. Their range is between 180 and 220. Has anybody been to teh St. Regis recently or going there soon and might send more pics? Their site is very short on the pics.
  2. So, my FI and I are staying at the St. Regis Princeville and currently have a wedding date/time reserved for 8/2. But, I was wondering if it might be cheaper and even better to have an off-site wedding. The catering will be super steep there, but the convenience would be nice. Also, I wonder if the hotel will honor the super group rate we got if we don't book the wedding there.
  3. Love to hear all the great ideas! We are planning an August wedding up at the St. Regis, Princeville. The food and beverage costs are super steep so I am glad to learn of other nearby options.
  4. I am so grateful for the reivew! I have a wedding and 10 guest rooms booked for the 31st of July and have been stuggling over some rough review and a couple of youtube videos. Anyhow, I am thinking...thanks to this great in-depth reivew, that I may be best off sticking with my gut. I am so glad you had a hassle-free, just how you wanted it wedding.
  5. Whoa...thanks for the warning! I like the sounds of things otherwise Jennifer. At this point, I only want to change our location if we could find something close to, but nicer or a little less cheesy. The Grand Bahamian and the other Sandals with the private island look nice...as does the Royal Palmanian in Jamaica. Oh decisions.
  6. I wonder what is behind his hesitation to ask his brother. First, does he think he'll see him within the next couple of weeks...or, is his relationship with his brother rocky right now for some reason? Either way, I would give a timeline with the choices: either ask him within ____ weeks within which time he can reasonably make travel plans (or is he already booked to come?)...or, ask another close friend. I think this can be done in a way that isn't condesending or like an altimatem. Perhaps this will help him open up with you about why he's delaying on this one without him getting hurt by you going behind his back.

  8. Jamaicabride, the fact that you've already been planning for a year now and have a wedding date over a year from now is kind of making me even more nervous about MY own indecision here. But, we've got it narrowed down to a sandy beach, nice weather, 7/31/10 or 10/10/10...yep only about a million options out there!
  9. Talk about indecisive! My FI has been online all week into the wee hours of the morning (4 am last night!!!) looking into alternate options. We reserved Sandals Whitehouse for 7/31/10, but we're on the fence now. Have any of you been there? What can you tell me about it? We've been looking into Aruba, Hawaii, Costa Rica, and much more now... I am getting a bit overwhelmed by the options out there. Any suggestions?
  10. Thanks for all of the information Jennifer. Are packages only offered with the colors show then? Or can we pick and choose a little?
  11. Wow what a great site! I just did a silly evite type one through pingg. It's cool in that we can track who's seen it and people can RSVP directly on it...BUT, yours is soooo much better. I will PM you to get your friends contact info. Nice work!
  12. Too funny! So, I too am a teacher. Now I see the common thread here! Go figure. I am so glad you set this up thread Mandy! Name: Effie FI Name: Nate Wedding Destination: Currently have Jamaica Sandals Whitehouse resort reserved...unsure though. Right now my FI is researching Oahu...help please! What made you choose this destination? Sandals Whitehouse: ease of planning/all inclusice location and beach/beauty. Wedding Date: 7/31/10 What made you choose this date? The booking agent through the Sandals resort recommended it and I am a teacher. Have you decided on your wedding colors? If so, what are they? I am thinking mango and turquios What is something unique about your wedding? We don't know exactly where we're having it! : ) Tell us anything else about yourself and/or your wedding : )....We just want to make this a special trip for all of our friends and family that are able to amke it. You know...the usual.
  13. Thanks you guys. Annabanana, I think you're right that even in Hawaii we will have the crowds to deal with. I keep thinking our indecision is really just a matter of "the grass always looks greener on the other side" and every resort looks super on their website and not-so-super in home videos...especially, when the videos are homemade.
  14. Thanks Jennifer. Our hesitation is related to a couple of things: we aren't sure about the hurricane season...ie., how risky is it at the end of July?; in some Youtube videos the resort look kind of cheesy (for example there's a water wheel in the wall of one of the restaraunts); and do you think they will be impacted by the refugees from the Haiti earthquake? My fiance has been researching alternate locations all week and all day today. He is pretty into the idea of Maui right now for sake of the beauty minus all of the aforementioned risks. If you could help assuade us I would really appreciate it becuase I am at the point where I would almost just rather stick with what we've already reserved and told people about, but don't want to make a major mistake with timing and class. In terms of class, I just mean that we would really prefer that it's intimate and special and easy.
  15. Has anyone been there? Are you booked there? We have a reservation for the 31st of July, 2010. But, we aren't sure if we want to go there still. Let me know anything you know about this resort please. I wonder if hurricanes will be an issue this time of year too. 16. My fiance and I booked Sandals Whitehouse for 7/31/10, but now we're waffling and thinking of something totally different like Oahu! Fortunately, we only have the resort reserved and it's 100% refundable at this point. We just don't know how impacted Jamaica will be by the Haiti earthquake releif efforts; hurricanes in July/August; etc. Also, I saw some Youtube postings of couples on honeymoons and someone's home video of her wedding. Seriously as she walked down the isle there was a young couple on lawn chairs holding up drinks! Really?!
