They do them a lot in the east and mid-west, but not in the South. I don't think it's right to do one at a dw b/c your asking people to spend a lot of money to go in the 1st place, and if you're at an ai, who's going to to think of bringing cash to the reception?
  2. We didn't do std or invites and we have no regrets. We got engaged in October '09, decided where we were getting married in Dec '09, and got married in April '10, so it was pretty fast. We sent out a mass email to people that explained what were doing and it contained all the information necessary to make reservations and to rsvp. It worked out well for us. I wouldn't do the invites if you already sent out a std with info on how to make reservations and rsvp.
  3. I agree w/ Mrs Price, maybe test the waters and let them both know how you feel about their problems and that you don't want to deal with whatever issues they have with each other. If I were in your shoes I don't know if I could let her be a bm though. You've already got so much of your planning done, and she missed it b/c she was being selfish. Now you'd have to go back and rearrange all of your plans b/c now she want's to be part of it all. And you know they'll be together the whole day of your wedding, getting ready and makeup, and photo's... I just couldn't do it, no matter how much I loved her. Maybe instead of making her a bm you could give her a special duty the day of the wedding, like make sure the wc has everything arranged and done correctly so you don't have to worry about it, & it doesn't take time away from your bm that should be spending time w/ you for photos and making sure you look as pretty as possible. My stepmom did that for me and it took loads of stress of my back. We called her the wedding czar, it was very fitting :-)
  4. Erin, I'm loving your photo's!!!! They're amazing!
  5. Welcome home! I'm glad to hear that you had a good time We actually floated the Comal and rented a Condo a few years ago, so we were thinking about doing it again, just on a much bigger scale. That's too funny! You'll have to let me know how your party barge goes
  6. None of my family is coming to our AHR so I don't have to worry about entertaining out-of-towners. I love my dress to, but I don't want to wear it to our AHR. It would get so nasty in this brewery. We decided that if people wanted to be with us on our wedding day, and get to see how beautiful I was in my dress, & blah blah blah, they would have been there. We originally wanted to rent a condo and float the river! LOL that would fun! His mom wouldn't allow it though, she's anti-party/fun. Have you been in Austin long?

Michele - I'm not a big fan of signing up for things I know it sounds stupid, but I'm always afraid that it's a bogus site or a virus or something else weird. Erin - I hope you like your new job! And I know how you feel about the whole house thing. As soon as we got back we started remodeling again. It's def crazy!
  8. Michele I can't see your pics.... How did you do it Tracy?
  9. You don't have to register if you don't want to, but you'll probably end up with a bunch of junk that you never wanted. If you register you lessen the chance of getting unwanted items. Agreed - most registries will offer free shipping, and having family and friends pass the word that if they choose to purchase items having them shipped would be much appreciated. Or, you can always say that their presence is gift enough, ask for cash, or do a donation registry instead.
  10. Awwww you brought tears to eyes! I'm so happy for you that you had the ability to do something so special for both you and your Nana. Unfortunately my Mimi isn't here any more so she was watching our wedding from heaven... Looks like you made your Nana so happy!
  11. WARNING! I went to this site on my work computer (first no-no) and I got a terrible terrible virus! IT had to completely wipe out and rebuild my computer, and it's still not the same. Always be careful as to what you click on. Doesn't seem like this happened to the above ladies, but I certainly don't want this to happen to any other girls. Luckily, I have no higher-ups to explain myself to, but would you want to explain how you got this to your boss?? Probably not.
  12. Glad to hear that everything worked out for you Jodi! Welcome back Natasha! Erin - I should be getting my pro pics very soon from Sascha. I've already seen them but I can't wait to post his beautiful photos for everyone to see Michele - good thing you're going away for a few days to relax! I wish I was going to VA w/ you... my best friend and sister is graduating from college this weekend, she was suppose to be my maitron of honor and couldn't make it, and now I can't make it to her grad.... bummer dude. I've decided not to write my review until I get the CD photos from Sascha. Figured since I've waited a month I can wait a few more weeks and write a really good review w/ good photos. We did upload our pics from our camera last night and went through them all. Now I just have to post to my fb page! Our AHR is next weekend. I got cupcakes ordered this weekend from Sam's (super duper cheapo) and a friend is smoking briskets for us.... that leaves me with the bread and some sides to whip up for 100 people. Better start cooking my potatoes now to get a head start! Then we just have to pray the the roof will be done at the brewery where we're having our AHR and we'll be good to go! How formal or informal is your AHR? Mine is super casual.
  13. You did a great job on your review suzy! You've def given me a bit of boost of motivation to write my own! Thanks
  14. Dang! I was a trip advisor mongrel before we left and I just decided that it was kind of like watching the weather... so many opinions and the opinions just keep changing. I read a lot of good reviews, and a lot of bad reviews about our resort. We decided to keep our expectations low b/c it was Mexico and whatever happened, happened. It turned out to be amazing and the best thing we've ever done. I think trip advisor has a lot of great information on it, but you have to take it with a grain of salt (and tequilla!).
  15. Sorry ladies, but I disagree when you say that credit cards are a necessary evil. They are not necessary, and only bring risk into your life. I can tell you that living debt free is the only way to live life. No stress, no worries. If DH and I don't have the money to pay for something, anything, then we don't buy it. We scrimp and save until we can pay cash for everything. And for those you that still believe that you need a credit card to build your credit score, I think you're wrong again. If you don't borrow money then you don't need a credit score. Your FICO score is an 'I love debt score". Trust me, it is possible to live a wonderful life without the stress and worries of debt. You willl never be able to build wealth if you're constantly giving your hard earned cash to make payments. Just my $.02....
  16. I think that if you're considering going behind the back of the person that you love, and the person that you're suppose to spend the rest of your life with, just to get a prettier diamond, then you are not headed down the right road for marriage. An ering, or wedding band, is not about how big and sparkly it is, it's about the commitement behind it. You should be thankful that someone loves you enough to make such a commitement. Maybe that ring is all that he could afford. Don't underestimate him and just assume that he didn't spend any time researching and trying to find the best one that he could. IMO this all sounds very materialistic and unappreciative. Whatever you do, don't do anything behind your soon-to-be husbands back. Your marriage will never work if you start off that way.You two need to sit down together w/ the tv off, and communicate.
  17. Ditto jeninesmom. I ordered our starfish from there and they were perfect and came in quickly.

I started gaining a lot of weight before our wedding (which I stil am for some reason) so I think I look gigantica in our photo's. Bummer.

It's still not guaranteed to be competely done, but there will be a roof and plenty of beer! ** We're having our ahr at our favorite local brewery, so the beer is the most important part! LOL!! Is it Friday yet? I wish!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't believe it's only Tuesday, but atleast it's a pay week! Any other brides having an AHR?
  20. Oh I just love everyone's photo's! And to be honest, just a little bit jealous... I really need to find the motivation to write my review and order our wedding photo's. Not sure why I've been so lazy about that. We just had our 1 month anniversary yesterday! Honestly, where does the time go Can't wait to hear everyone's stories. I know we're all married now, but I enjoy coming to this site to hear what's going on and just kind of chit chat with others.
  21. We want to go back so bad too! We miss it so much, it was complete paradise! But, we're out of pto for the rest of the year, and hubby starts a new job, yes another new job, in two weeks, and I'm desperate to find something else. Good thing we have our house renovations to keep us busy otherwise we would be dreaming of vacation instead of dreaming of flooring! Can't wait until I get some time to look through everyone's photo's!
  22. def the pool as I'm scared I'm going to get carried out to sea, lol Would you rather have millions and no one to love or poor and a house full of love
