  1. ok ladies, i am so confused. We legally got married here in canada (ontario) do I have to apply to the registrar to get my marriage license or will i get a copy of it. The justice of the peace said it takes approx 10 weeks to process but she didn't say whether i had to apply or not. I really don't want to change my name on my birth certificate, but i was not born it ontario which i thought made a difference. Can any one clue me in, I really would like to get this name change done, if i only could figure out where to start!!
  2. the must have that i never travel without is a nail brush, it comes in handy, a bar of soap & holder from home, a week with hotel shampoo is murder on your hair, and a good frizz tamer
  3. So glad i found this tread, I am 37 and FI is 49, we do plan on having a child after the wedding, its great to see how many others are out there that have waited to have children. I had been thinking maybe i am too old to start considering, but seeing all the support and all the women in the same situation is quite comforting.
  4. Thanks everyone for your hugs and support. I have finally heard from her, she was actually off sick for a few days. Between the holidays and the flu not sure which one is going to do me in first!! So things are going much better, dates are confirmed, contracts are signed just some small final details and we're done!!

We are getting a group rate I guess by going through them directly. We just thought because our group was so small it would be pretty easy, contact hotel tell them what we wanted find out what our guests needed to do to book for the rates quoted and done. It's really not working out like i planned.
  6. I have actually left her a message and sent an email since her return. I understand she is probably very busy, but I am getting heat from my guests and ofcourse FI who want to book their rooms, I'm starting to feel like an unorganized idiot. Plus that knot in my neck keeps getting bigger and bigger!!!
  7. ok so we are having a very small wedding 10 people total including us. Back during the end of Nov beginning of Dec we decided on Bahamas, narrowed things down to finally deciding on the Sheraton Nassau beach. I had been speaking with the WC and emailing back and forth, things were going well until Dec 18. That is the last time that I've heard from her. I emailed a few times, then on the third email i received a email back "with the vacation alert". Ok she's gone on vacation for the holidays, but her email also said she checked her email daily, her vacation went by with no response. Fine guess she figured she would deal with it when she gets back. Well she's been back for a few days now and nothing. Not even a quick note saying i read your email. What do i do? My wedding day is or i guess was Feb 18, we have all booked our flights, its a little over a month away. I really don't know what to do? I just want to cry!!
  8. Have you had any luck with flowers or videographer? We love the Bahamas, we got engaged there, so we thought it was only fitting to get married there as well. Up until the last two years we had been traveling there every year. It seems to be the only place that we go where FI actually relaxes. i can't believe we are the only two getting married there!!
  9. Sorry for not responding soonier, I am getting married in Bahamas in Feb, very small affair myself, FI and 4 other couples, i am actually still working on most of the details. Our biggest headache so far is trying to convince everyone to stay at the same hotel, but really its not that big a deal! I see your going to be a Atlantis bride, what an awesome choice!! it is just beautiful there with tons to do.
  10. has anyone ordered from here: Evening dresses, cocktail, prom dresses, gowns by eDressMe prices look great, dresses look nice, and they say they have a store in NY
  11. I think that is all I would like to do is try them on, get an idea of what looks right and if time permits I may order from one of the China places that everyone is talking about in another tread. I did find another online retailer that they say they are in NY but haven't seen anyone here that has purchased from them. I am right downtown ottawa, but I do have a car & GPS so getting around is pretty easy. I just want something very simple and have looked at the same dress online for weeks now, but would like to try something on similar to it to see if it looks good on me.
  12. Thank you so much for all your responses, I have been rereading everything. It seems to calm me down and reminds me what is really important - ME!! Its going to be hard but i want what i want, and i definitely don't want to share my spotlight (she's already been married once, and has only been engaged for approx 1 month!), plus a double wedding are you serious? how do you have a small wedding with her close friends and my close friends. The subject hasn't come up again so i will just leave it unless she mentions it again. we were chatting at the time and my response at the time was just a "LOL" bholthof - wow how did you get all that out of what i thought was a simple post. But you hit the nail right on the head. A wedding hasn't been a big priority there has just been so much going on that we never took the time. I really don't want to make a big deal out of it, we just want a very very small intimate ceremony on a beach with some friends, my sister would be the only family member there (my mom doesn't know that we are planning, and she doesn't travel and hates the heat) My biggest problem right now is location, I would like a quiet location away from the big tourist hotspots, which i thought i had found but i can't seem to get them to email me back about available dates, this beach is very special to me, we had spent alot of time there snorkeling and playing in the waves, the beach though is sometimes not kept up (sometimes garbage and alot of seaweed) i guess i keep reading all the posts here, and i guess i feel maybe guilty that i am not doing certain things for my guests seeing there will only be 8 of us, everyone is so detailed and so into the tiniest of detail. I do have one small request bholthof can you help me out with were to go and look at wedding dresses, I am new to ottawa and really don't know where to go, the only one i know of is the bridal store off of rideau st (haven't been, chickened out!!) And once again, thank you all for listening!
  13. Hello ladies, I've been lurking around here for months, the information on here is absolutely amazing!!! But I have been doing more reading than I have been planning!! So here is my situation. We were initially going to do a Vegas wedding back in Oct, but my heart wasn't in it, so we decided to wait. This past week we started discussing the wedding again (we've been engaged for 9 years, living together for 8, we just never seem to have made the "wedding" a priority until now!!). So we decided on a location and a month, yay two major hurdles out of the way, so I thought. I am in absolute panic/fear mode. I have no idea where to begin, what to do, who to talk to. Ladies, I know I haven't said much but please help. Every time I think of this wedding I feel my blood pressure rising, my heart starts to beat fast and my eyes well up with tears!! Oh since I'm sharing I might as well keep going. So we have also decided who we want to attend, it is going to be very small 10 people including us. So I called my sister to share in my excitement. I do realized that we didn't pick a very economical place to get married (Nassau) but it means alot to me that is why I chose it. I told her no pressure, if you can't afford to come I completely understand, its ok. Instead of doing some investigating and letting me know if she can come, she has offered me 5 other locations that would fit her budget better!!! And to top it off, she asked if I wanted to do a double wedding with her and her FI!! (I'm not sure but I really hope she was joking!!) I think I've ranted for a bit, sorry its so long, but I really needed to get that off my chest! Plus I have mother issues!! But the mother is for another day. LOL!!
  14. I know the question sounds kind of silly but here's my situation. I just recently moved to Ottawa and I really don't know the area at all. Still trying to figure out where to do groceries let alone where to go to shop for a wedding dress? If any of you ladies live in or around the area that could point out some places to go, great service, reasonable prices that would be great!! Thanks for all your help!!
  15. so glad i found this tread, so can someone please clear this up for me. We are planning a small affair for family before our vegas wedding, so when i am searching for venues and pricing am i looking for "vow renewal ceremonies". I am so sorry I really know nothing about planning weddings!!
