  1. Well you ladies have been SO helpful to me throughout this whole process, that I thought I'd leave most of everything down there, and anyone coming after me can feel free to use it! I just hope DPC doesn't incorporate my stuff into centerpieces of their own and then CHARGE everyone for them! My stuff is meant to be free! Haha!
  2. Hello! Erin, that hair style is gorgeous! And different from anything I've seen! LOVE IT! One of my bridesmaids is doing my hair (she's really good, we've done one trial so far, and I love it!), and my MOH is doing my makeup (had a Sephora trial on Saturday, not super impressed with the outcome, but learned a lot!) We are doing a TTD session too, not sure about doing it the next day though, or the day after. I love the idea of sleeping in the hair and makeup on the wedding niht, and then letting everything down into messy curls (my photographer is adament that my hair should be down and messy, not "perfect" for the shoot), but I don't want to be super tired while doing it, either! So she's left it as "wait and see how you feel" the day after the wedding, and if I'm wiped, postpone to the next day. Ah, the beauty of a destination wedding! :0) This is my photographer's first destination wedding, so I really think she will go all out for everything, so she has it all for her portfolio. Are you all using your actual wedding dresses for the TTD? I thought I'd be okay with it, but every time I step into mine, I just know I couldn't do it! So I bought a dress for $99 from Sears to use.
  3. Got the e-mail, thanks Eliana! Such a unique thing, and so simple but elegant and beautiful! I love it, just not sure I'd have the patience to do it... Then again, I guess that wouldn't fall in the realm of "bridal responsibilities" now would it? LOL. WELCOME CATH!!!!! I'm excited, you are now the bride on here that has the closest date to mine at DPC! I'm getting married on the 12th! Well, apparently there is a wedding at 4 pm on my day (mine's at 5 pm), but I guess that poor bride hasn't found this amazing forum! Any questions you have/things you want to see, let me know, I've been accumulating information/pictures/ideas, and have been in touch with Sharron, our WC, about SO MANY things, just let me know! :0) Also, when do you arrive at the resort I will likely be leaving a lot of my decorations and stuff down there, so feel free to stop by our reception (Himitsu Terrace) to see what everything looks like, and you can definitely borrow anything! :0)
  4. I think you should do whatever you want, and whatever fits the theme/level of formality at your wedding! I'm walking down the aisle to I'm Yours by Jason Mraz, and I'm having my 5 girls walk to Smile by Uncle Kracker. I think I like their song better than mine, it's so upbeat and sweet I almost cry every time I hear it! :0)
  5. Unfortunately I can't open the attachments, but would love to see them, if you could e-mail to taratoons@hotmail.com. I bought 2000 white flower petals on E-Bay, and died about 30% of them hot pink, so we're using those on the aisle too, I'd like to see the patterns though! :0) Thanks!
  6. Hey hey! 1. I will definitely be tipping the WC, I'm just not sure how much. I guess it depends what kind of a job she does! I was assuming $150 or so, but I went to a destination wedding last year (of friends from PROSPEROUS families) and they tipped $300, plus tipping all the wait staff! 2. We ordered fake flowers through an online store. I found it through E-Bay, but it's called The Tailored Bow. I still have yet to see photos of the products, but the price was amazing! I'll also use the centerpiece included with the wedding package, as well as use the bouquet included somewhere as decor too. 3. We are definitely getting married at the gazebo, I wasn't a huge fan of the beach per se when I was there in June, and it was soooo windy, we opted for the gazebo, minus the red carpet! I'm not paying extra for decoration, but I am bringing my own tulle to loosely wrap around the front 2 pillars, and I have some hot pink and white flower petals that I will use on the aisle, once the red carpet is gone. 4. I think that is a GREAT idea for a gift! Very personal, and it's going to up your excitement so much, having all that extra extravagance! I got FI a watch that I engraved. He doesn't wear one currently, but he's constantly asking for the time! $4/centerpiece? That is totally amazing, how did you pull that off? I believe ours are around $20 or so. We just used a plastic vase, sand, pink jewels, a couple shells, then water and floating candles. Around the outside we have white flower petals and a couple starfish, and some ribbon there too. If anyone wants to see them let me know and I will e-mail, again, I'm picture-uploading IMPAIRED! :0) Did everyone have a good Valentine's Day? We got engaged on V-Day last year, FI took me to Mexico for the day, I can't believe it's been a year of engagement/wedding planning!
  7. Hey Jenise, WELCOME! :0) I just tried sending you the brochure to jolavarria@hotmail.com, but it bounced back to me. Is there another e-mail address I could send to? To everyone else that asked, I sent it with no problems, so let me know if you don't receive it or if you can't open it! It's certainly not even CLOSE to as extravagant as many I've seen, it's pretty basic, I just didn't have the patience to do a detailed one!
  8. Thanks for the compliments on April Fool's Day, though I can't really take credit! At first, I was totally AGAINST the idea (ie I do NOT want my legal marriage to be a "FOOL"!). However, that came down to our only real option before hand. The Wednesday is still March, and I wanted to get legally married the same month as my wedding. The Friday is Good Friday, and the Monday Easter, so courthouse is closed. Then the Tuesday is the day before we leave, and there's no way I would be able to contain my excitement long enough to get legally married, so April Fool's Day it is! I kind of like it now, since we are trying to make it so low-key, it just adds to that, making it almost more of a joke! :0) To answer whoever asked about the brokerage fee from Discount Mugs (sorry, I can't scroll back that many pages, the forum is slllooowwww today!), we ordered 48 mugs from there and paid about $75 brokerage fee. Still very reasonable, and we are pretty happy with the results. Not EXACTLY what we designed/same colour, but close enough! :0) Are you all planning a lot of events throughout the week for your guests to take part in, or basically leaving them to their own devices to have fun?
  9. Hi ladies! Tracy - your boudoir outfits are perfect, I think! Different from each other, which will give you lots of different looks! And let me tell you, if your FI is a Habs fan, then you are marrying a good man! :0D Definitely a cute idea to use the jersey! Kim - As for legal vs. symbolic ceremony, I was soooo set on a legal ceremony, really wanted my guests to witness our "real" wedding, and really wanted our first kiss to be our real first MARRIED kiss. BUT, I've heard from many brides at my resort, and the wedding coordinator, that there is only 1 judge in the DR who covers all weddings in the area, and thus is quite often LATE, and doesn't come until partway through your reception, or the next day. So to pay all that extra money for translation of documents, and the judge fee, to have him not even show up until the middle of reception, thus leaving us with a symbolic ceremony ANYWAY, we decided (after much himming and hawing) to go with a legal ceremony here in Ottawa first. We're getting legally married April Fool's Day, and our DR wedding is April 12. For the legal, I will be wearing a pink/purple dress (NO WHITE!), we are having our parents and 2 witnesses only, not exchanging rings, and doing traditional vows. To me, it's NOT our marriage/wedding, so I want to make it as little like a wedding as possible! Tara
  10. I think you're definitely right, it's probably best to let people fend for themselves on the activity front, especially since many of our guests have never really travelled before, and I don't know if they are "read on the beach with a cocktail" type person, like myself, or "keep busy and do any active thing you can all day long" type person, like FI. :0) So how are you keeping everyone informed on where you'll be??
  11. Also, I think I may have asked this question before, but are you all planning events throughout the reception for guests to take part in? I've been to weddings where there are games, or trivia about the couple to make them kiss, but because our reception is so short, with dinner and speeches too, I was thinking just dancing afterward and not planning any real games throughout. And are you organizing events throughout the week for your guests to do? Or just letting them do their own thing? We're thinking of doing an excursion, but other than that, letting people do what they want when they want. BUT I don't want them to be bored!!!! :0S
  12. I hope everyone got some relief from Jocy's review, like I did! So thorough, and really put some of my worries at ease! As for the question about what FI is wearing, for us, we decided to go against the grain and not choose a sand coloured suit. Instead, he is wearing a chocolate brown suit, with a white shirt and white tie, and his groomsmen are wearing chocolate brown pants, white shirts, and green ties (that match the bridesmaids' dresses). I loved the look of khaki, but in some photos I had seen, it seemed to blend in with the beach background too much! So we went with chocolate brown. :0)
  13. Hey ladies! Jocy, thank you so much for posting your photos and your very thorough review! I'm so happy that things went better than you'd hoped for, and you looked absolutely stunning in your photos! CONGRATULATIONS, MRS! :0) What did you choose for your wedding dinner? I tried to upload the brochure that we made and mailed to our guests (it's not a welcome letter per se, but a compilation of resort information, helpful tidbits like what to pack, and the itinerary for the week as it stands now). Of course, I'm inept on this website, and my upload failed, so if anyone would like to see it, just let me know and give me your e-mail, I'd be more than happy to send it along! In terms of a welcome vs. rehearsal dinner, we are doing a quick run through of the plan for the day with just the wedding party, so people know where they have to be, and then we were just doing a quick 1 hour cocktail hour the night before the wedding with everyone invited, but now that Jocy mentioned something about $10/person to do a dinner with a set menu on a terrace, we're wondering about that! I've never seen such a good price anywhere for an event like that at DPC? So my wedding date is fast approaching, and I'm wondering if anyone else is getting married at DPC in April? I think Erin is the 28th, but other than that, I'm wondering if there are going to be any other BDW forum brides there while I am! :0) Tara
  14. Hi Nicole, and welcome! I agree, when I first started researching resorts, I was so thankful for all the insider information found in these pages! :0) As for your question about percentages, for us it was about 40%, we have 43 people coming, and invited around 100. Hope that helps! :0) Tara
  15. Oooh, thanks Echo, those are all great and unique ideas, I've definitely never thought of anything that different before! I guess there definitely are other options besides going out to the bars, or at least options for what to do BEFORE we head out to the bars! Thanks so much!
  16. Hey everyone! I had totally forgotten about this thread, and was on my Dreams Punta Cana thread following it, but when I returned here, I had sooo much to catch up on! We're getting close, ladies! Soon we'll all be MRS! Regarding the bachelorette party, I agree with you ebredhawk, I'm so nervous, I hate being the center of attention too! But I guess we better get used to it, since the attention will be on us on our big day! My MOH is currently planning and won't tell me anything except which weekend it is in March. :0S She's super creative though, so I'm sure it will be great! I have a question for you guys though: While she's planning my bachelorette party, I also have to start thinking about HERS, since I'm her MOH too! So, if you had to CHOOSE what to do, from start to finish, for your bachelorette party, what would you do? Do you have any cool ideas? Like I said, she's super creative and secretive about nine, and I don't want to cop out and just do a bar thing, or ASK her what she wants, so any input would be great! Talk soon. I'll follow more faithfully, I promise! :0)
  17. GOOD LUCK, January brides! So very exciting, I hope everything goes to plan for you ladies, that the weather is perfect, and that you have an absolutely wonderful wedding day/trip. :0) Cheers!
  18. Hi ladies! I've owned this DVD for about a 9 months now, and use it off and on for a month at a time, here and there. I don't know about you all who LIKE it, I HATE it, but I force myself to do it! It's quick enough that before you know it, you're on the last half, and at least can see an end in sight. My problem is motivation to keep doing it. I usually last a couple weeks, then fall off the wagon. So you guys would give the book good reviews? I'm thinking I might buy it... Don't forget, "the neck is not invited to this party!" :0)
  19. Hey ladies! Hope all is well. I see many of you are interested in La Barcaza, and that looks sooo cool! I was in touch with Flori, who sounds super to work with, and very accomodating! I bet your guests will LOVE a cruise reception! We want to have our reception on the actual resort, but we considered doing the boat for our rehearsal/welcome party/dinner. BUT, our guests fly in late Saturday and we're getting married the Monday, so I don't want to usurp half their first day with the boat. So we've opted to just do a 1 hour cocktail and apptizer hour on the resort on Sunday, then everyone can get to know each other. nsbride, a Canada Day wedding would be unbelievable! YAY Canada!!!! How many of you are LOVING Ebay for wedding planning? So far I've ordered our plastic vases and pink jewels for centrepieces, some tiny starfish, 2000 white rose petals, and I've found someone to do my flowers through there! Not sure how I'm going to get them down there, but her stuff is AMAZING, and her prices are unreal. For a bridal bouquet, MOH bouquet, 4 bridesmaid bouquets, groom's boutonniere, 4 other boutonnieres, and 2 corsages, I was quoted $230. It's awesome!!!!
  20. Oh, sorry guys, I'm guessing this diet plan costs money, right? Ignore my previous request then! I thought that the title of this thread meant the plan was available as an attachment in post #45, but when I didn't see it, I was hoping someone could e-mail it to me, but then clued in that there's probably a cost attached.
  21. Hi ladies! I'm a late joiner to this thread, but very interested in it! From what I've seen, you guys are having success with this diet, so I'd love to give it a try. However, do you think it's worth it if I only have 4 months left to go until the wedding? If so, could someone forward along the plan to me at taratoons@hotmail.com? Thanks so much for any info!!!!
  22. Thanks Misty, the pictures in those links look beautiful! Does anyone know where they pick you up though? Is it far from DPC?
  23. PS - Regarding prices, I agree, they tend to go down over time. I was super stressed that the plane or the resort was going to sell out before we got booked, but we waited it out and eventually things worked out. We got the resort for $1299/person.
  24. Wow guys, thank you all for sharing your responses! At least they are being consistent in their replies... I'm starting to feel a little better, though still stressed that they will change things and rip the rug out from under us yet again before all our wedding dates. They really need to work on how they give out their information, you have to wonder how much time they are needlessly wasting answering the same questions from all of us! Tam, would you be able to send some pictures of your mugs? You were the one who gave me the brilliant idea, so I'd love to see how they turned out! My e-mail is taratoons@hotmail.com And also, whoever has pictures of this cruise/boat reception thing, and prices, could you pass along this info to taratoons@hotmail.com? I was always disappointed that the reception was only 3 hours long at the resort, so if this is a viable option, it might suit us better! Thanks ladies, you're the best!
