  1. i think it depends on how large your group is. the options lupita gave me were all outside b/c our group is 40+.
  2. I am at VIM right now for my site visit/vaca. Having a great time and will post a full review when i get back. Am meeting with WC at 11:00. Let me know if you have any questions!!
  3. Hi! I'm getting married at VIM on December 12. I am expecting that we will have a larger group, since we haven't even sent out the invites and we already have 40 people booked. I'm heading to VIM next week to meet with the WC and iron out some details. I am happy to share any info that i find out. Let me know if there is anything specific you would like me to ask!
  4. Ladies, I'm heading to VIM for a combo vacation/site visit July 28-Aug 2. Will be meeting with Lupita and asking a ton of questions. Let me know if there is anything specific you want to know!
  5. Thanks Mrs. Powers! I found the review! Much appreciated. I hope my wedding is 1/2 as beautiful as yours looked!!!!
  6. Mrs. Powers, I think i must be missing something. I didn't see the review you mentioned or the pictures. Could you send me the link? Thank you! Jenn
  7. OlsonTCO There is apparently a child friendly resort next door, but I don't know the name. your guests would be able to meet you on the beach. Good luck
  8. Jennie and CNC, As I promised, here are my thoughts on EDR vs. VIM, but i can speak more of why I chose VIM as opposed to why I didn't chose EDR. For me and my fiance, we wanted to get married on a beach. And EDR, as pretty as it is and as good as the food is reported to be (I've never stayed there), it has these HUGE ugly sand bags in the water. I didn't want to see that when I was getting married (or have it in my pictures.) I have stayed at VIM and am going back there next month for our site visit. It is HUGE and secluded, which i really liked. There are many places to meet your guests and hang out. The beach is where we want to get married but if it is raining, the chapel is beautiful too. I wrote a fuller report earlier in this strand with more reasons. Feel free to check that out. If you have any more questions, let me know!
  9. Hi All! I'm so mad at this system! I had signed up to receive notification every time there is an update to this thread (b/c i can't access this from work) and I didn't get on until this morning and I have missed all this great news! CONGRATS to Mrs. Powers and Colby! Thanks for the info! And CNC, I will respond to you this week about EDR vs. VIM. Have a good day everyone!
  10. I am thinking of doing the same. If you get any info, please post and I will do the same! Thanks!

I was wondering did you end up using this band? what did you think? Any help would be most appreciated! JLRJEN
  12. Hi Jennie, I'm getting married on December 12 at the Valentin. We looked at EDR and VIM. We chose VIM. My fiance and I paid $2200 total for seven nights including airfare, taxes, and transfers. If you take out the airfare and transfers, it works out to about $215/room/night including taxes. Gotta love low season!
  13. Graciela, CONGRATS!!! So excited for you and such a relief to hear that everything went well. I'm starting to stress a bit too and am thinking about hiring a private/outside WC b/c I'm not hearing from the resort at all. Can you tell us a bit about how the WCs handled the wedding? I, too, would like to know where you had your reception and how that was handled (private? in a restaurant? extra charge?) And of course pictures (did you use the resort photographer or hire another)? I know youwon't have the professional pix for a while but anything you can share about the set up of ceremony reception cocktail hour etc would be most appreciated!!! Thank you for starting this forum and being willing to share and help us all out!! AND CONGRATS AGAIN!!
  14. This is great!! This is exactly what I'm looking to do too! Soon2bpowers! I know you from the VIM thread! I just called robert too at cancun catamarans and I'm getting sooooooooooo excited about it. He said I might have to use the bigger boat - I'm guessing that we will have about 50-75 people since we are already at 31 people booked and the invites aren't out yet. But this sounds like so much fun. I'll post what he tells me are the prices for the bigger boat. When are you doing this? The day before the wedding? We were thinking of doing it for our rehearsal dinner but now i think the more casual snorkeling/sailing might be more fun? SOOOOOO exciting!
  15. hi ladies, i can certainly understand your concerns. i'm getting questions all the time from my family and friends now about whether we are still having the wedding in mexico, even though our wedding isn't until december. here is what i have been sharing with them to try to put their minds at ease. -put it in perspective: the u.s. is a country of 300 million people and mexico has a population of 109 million. 141 U.S. cases of H1N1 flu and ~1000 mexican cases (although bad) in my mind do not make for a "pandemic" -36,000 people a year in the U.S. die from the REGULAR FLU. so far no americans have died from h1n1 and only one mexican national who crossed over the border to get u.s. med treatment died here -the flu "outbreak" is centered in mexico city, not the yucatan peninsula now all that said, you have to do what makes you feel comfortable. if you chose to move your wedding to jamaica, i lived there for 2 years and would be happy to share/answer whatever questions i can. good luck jlrjen
  16. Hi ladies! Sorry I have been MIA. I can't access this site from work and I spend very little time on the computer at home. Everyone's information has been so helpful! And I'm getting so excited for all the upcoming June brides. I can't wait to see your pictures and to hear about your weddings. It will be FABULOUS! Thanks everyone for the incredible info/pix. I LOVE the starfish cake and the chairs. I think they are perfect! WOW! Thanks for posting the pix. I'm so glad you girls are out there and that I found you I'm going to email shamrock and soon2bpowers (i'll put destinationweddings.com in the subject or something) for the additional pix/email. I'm planning on doing a second site visit (b/c my first was only for 2 hours and wasn't very thorough). I'm going at the end of June. I know that won't help the early June brides, but if there is anything anyone wants me to ask/find out, let me know... Oh and if it helps, my wedding is December, I sent STDs in Feb and i'm going to send invites in July. We also are inviting 250 ppl (but we expect only about 40-50 to come - DWs are polite ways to have small weddings w/o excluding anyone . We are about 95% sure that our invite will be a Passport with a boarding pass reply card. Has anyone done somethign like that? What were your invitations like? Also, I still haven't given up on the idea of doing something fun at the reception - S2BPowers, i think you said fire dancers or something like that. I want cigar rollers and something fun at the reception. I know VIM doesn't offer it, but I was thinking of using this site to find a vendor in Mexico (or a WC who could recommend a vendor in Mexico) to do some of the additional things I want. Finally, what are you all doing about photographers? Are you bringing your own? Or using the one the resort has? If you are using the resorts, how do you get your pics at the end? Our wedding is Sat and we leave on Monday.... All the best, JLRJEN
  17. Hi ladies, Glad you liked the pictures. I know how much i pour over any pix that I can find of VIM, so I'm glad they were helpful for you...I'm sure your wedding days are going to be wonderful. I can't wait to see pictures and hear how they went. I don't have any info about ministers or even the ceremony yet since we are so far away from our Dec 12 date, but if I hear anything, I will certainly share... Question - I LOVE the spaces and feel of VIM, but does anyone know of any special/unique services for hire during the reception that the resort offers? For instance, some places I had considered had cigar rolling services or fireworks or (for the rehearsal dinner) a donkey with beers? I don't want to be corny (maybe the donkey is too much) but I would like to do something that would be unique/memorable (other than to be at a beautiful resort) that makes the wedding different from a wedding reception that I could have in the U.S....any thoughts? mrseddy - I have some information to offer on Secrets Capri and the gazebos at both VIM and SC (soon2bpowers is correct - there is a pic of VIM's gazebo on my website. I think that I even have a pic of the SC gazebo that I could dig up if you haven't seen it). I did a site visit last year to both SC and VIM. I stayed at SC for 2 nights with my fiance, my MOH, and my parents. Before leaving for the site visit, we were set that the wedding would be at SC. While we were there, we enjoyed our time: the food was good (we liked the outdoor grill for lunch) and they had this cute outdoor movie event that they did at night, the gym was nice, the property was beautiful and everything was elegant, but the resort was MUCH smaller than we expected. There was only one pool and really no place else to go and the beach was nice but not very wide. We wanted a beach ceremony and at the place where they do the beach ceremony there is a big green plastic (?) wall. Not very pretty. The gazebo was nice but it is right by the pool and the restaurants, which affords no privacy and means you are getting married infront of everyone at the pool. After 2 days, we did a pro and con list and decided that SC was not the place for us. My fiance and I went to check out Secrets Maroma and Royal Hideaway and my parents and MOH went to VIM. We loved the service and property at RH and loved the property at SM but for a variety of reasons (which I can go into if you want) we decided they were not the place. On the way to the airport, my fiance and I picked up my fam at the VIM and did a 2 hour site visit. We were so impressed with the drive into the property, the beautiful lobby, the rooms, the beach, and the resort itself. The biggest draw for us was the staff: Lupita (the first wedding coordinator who is now on maternity leave and will be back this summer) bent over backward to make us feel welcomed. My whole family got the impression that she and VIM would be THRILLED to host us. Other than RH, it was the warmest, most wonderful impression that we got from any of the resorts we visited. We sampled the food at the buffet - decent, good (but we are huge foodies and like the best of the best). The only downside (for us) was the lagoon - we are not nature people and thought it looked like a mud pit. But it is avoidable. The gazebo (if I remember correctly) is in the middle of the property near the gym. It was big, but I'm not sure how much seating there was around it. It was definitely more private than at SC but it was still on the way from the pool back to the main part of the resort. Hope that helps! JLRJEN
  18. Okay, I couldn't figure out how to post pix, so I'm giving you the link to my wedding website. The website is still under construction but here at the pix from the site visit. Some of the labels might be off on the room categories, but you get the drift. I hope they help! Let me know if you have questions. Our Albums
  19. Ladies, Thank you so much for this thread . I just put my deposit down on the VIM for a wedding on December 12, 2009! It has been a LONG journey to find this place and I'm so happy that I'm here. And I'm even happier that there are other VIM brides to share with! I'm new to the site (just joined two nights ago) but I have already read this entire thread. I visited the VIM last August for a quick site visit and it really was pretty and they were so anxious to please. I have TONS of pix from out site visit that I am happy to share. I need to learn how to post them, but won't be able to do so until the weekend. Until then, just wanted to say hi and thanks and say how happy I am to know you gals are out there! JLRJEN
  20. Wow! Thanks everyone! You have made me feel really welcomed. I so appreciate it And good news - after much deliberation, i put a deposit down at the Valentin Imperial Maya for December 12, 2009!! Now I need to figure out how to do one of those tickers and how to get my pix to load to my profile. so so SOOOOOOO excited . More over the weekend JLRJEN
  21. Hi All, I can't believe I have been engaged almost a year and have been planning a DW and I just found this site. WOW. This is great. Thanks to the organizers and hosts and all my fellow brides and brides to be for this amazing outlet/source of info. I will intro myself, tell you about my experiences, and offer what help I can. My fiance and i are planning a wedding in Mexico (PDC/Cancun area) for Dec 2009. I have been to Mex many times (and have traveled and lived all over the world) and would be happy to share any info I have. I have stayed at Excellence Playa Mujeres, Secrets Capri, Royal Hideaway, and have site visited Secrets Maroma and Valentin Imperial Maya. I have pix of all. Feel free to ask me about any of them (it may take me a day or so to get back to you b/c I don't have access to this site at work but I promise to respond). Right now I'm trying to decide between Valentin or Azul Sensatori or El Dorado Royal. Food, service and a beautiful beach is important to us. We like aspects of all and would appreciate any feed back (esp on the Valentin as that seems to be where we are heading). The one unknown for us there is the food. We are HUGE foodies. We love Food network, going to cooking classes, make 30 reservations (okay a bit of exaggeration) for restaurant week, and host dinner parties all the time. We understand the food might not be amazing, but we want it to be good. Any feedback would be most appreciated. Thanks and good night (and good luck!) And thanks for having me! JLRJEN
