  1. Hi All, So, I am like the worst bride to be ever! I get married on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at DPA and I have really nothing done! The best thing this forum has done for me is give me information without having to actively do anything! I have the greatest confidence that everything will go relatively smoothly. Plus, besides a total hurricane or other natural disaster, there is not a lot that could make this go badly. I probably won't get check into the hotel until 5:oo PM on Tuesday. I meet with Jacy at 9:30 am on Wednesday and I get married at 4:00. p.m. on Thursday. I will let you know how this whole fly by the seat of my pants thing goes. There is no way that I would have felt comfortable doing this if not for the wonderful people on this forum. They have generously provided wonderful information that I never would have even thought to have asked about. In that vein, if anyone has any specific questions, I would be happy to ask them while I am there. Just let me know!
  2. I ordered beach towels from towelmania.com for $3.99 each. I haven't received them yet but I am excited. I am planning on using space bags to transport them to Mexico! it won't help with the weight but it should help with the space issues!
  3. Hi all, Since I am get married over Halloween weekend, I thought a little halloween masks for the OOT bag would be nice! I just got them in the mail and they are beautiful! Fantasy Feather Mask Assortment (12)
  4. Scroll down- its the one called "A Dream Wedding in Paradise" (Not the bait and switch one!)
  5. Hi everyone. I just noticed a review of Dreams PA on tripadvisor.com. I thought I would post the link: Bait and Switch - Review of Dreams Puerto Aventuras, Puerto Aventuras, Mexico - TripAdvisor I hope that works! The flowers looked amazing!
  6. So Exciting! It is so nice to know things are going so well! I am so relieved! Thanks for every morsel of info!
  7. jlizabethm. Thank you so much for posting your questions and answers! Many of those questions I am not sure that I would have even thought to ask but it gave me great ideas about what I need to be thinking about to plan and prepare for the wedding. As far as getting legally married in Mexico, my fiance and I decided against it as well. It just seemed like the costs would really add up - blood tests, converting the birth certificates to Spanish, having to be in Mexico for four entire days before the wedding, the process of getting your actual marriage certificate, etc. I picked a destination wedding because I want it to be easy and relaxed so we ultimately decided do all the paperwork before hand. I am not sure that we will tell anyone though!
  8. Hi all! I am just beginning on the whole wedding planning process and I recently sent Jacy some basic questions. I thought I would share her response with all of you. My questions: 1) Photographer- Who is the resort photographer for weddings? Do you have sample's of his or her photographs? 2) Ceremony- We are having a symbolic ceramony. Who usually presides over this ceramony and is there a standard script? 3) Cocktail hour- What locations are available? What is included as far as food and drink? Jacy's Answers: Please find attached samples of our photographer´s work. Symbolic ceremonies are performed by a non denominational minister, a sample of the ceremony is as follow: Who gives their blessing for this wedding? (In the religious ceremony) Who gives away this woman in marriage? Non religious ceremony Opening Words Opening Prayer (in the religious ceremony) Scripture Reading (in religious ceremony) Charge to the couple Wedding Vows Exchange of Rings Blessing of Rings (in religious ceremony) Signing of Marriage Certificate Pronouncement of Husband & Wife First Kiss as Husband & Wife Presentation of the new Mr. & Mrs. American Blessing For the cocktail hour, most of the couples have this after the ceremony and use the same location. We can offer a palapa by the beach, banquet room or a pool terraze. Photographer pictures.pdf
  9. Patsah, I love the color you chose. Very bold and vibrant! I know what you mean about looking forward to the vacation aspect of it! Me too (although I have a long time before my vacation starts!) Also, I love nontraditional wedding parties. For me, my FI didn't want any groomsmen so just my sisters will be my honorary MOHs but we aren't having a best man or groomsmen or anything. That is the great thing about destination weddings- they are so flexible!
  10. Wow, It is so funny to see what strong opinions people have on this issue. While I agree that etiquette demands certain things, I don't go to a wedding so that I can be thanked for coming. Nor do I buy the gift because I want a thank you card. A gift is a voluntary act which does not require anything in return. In my opinion, a true gift should not be given with expectation that you receive a thank you card in return. It should be given from the heart with no expectations of reciprocity in any form. As a result, if I am upset that I didn't get a thank you for giving a gift, then I know that my gift was not a gift in the truest sense of the word but just an action I took because it was socially expected. I think weddings are getting so commercialized. There's the engagement party, a shower (sometimes multiple showers) and the wedding itself. Gifts are expected at all events. People register for all of these things at all of these stores. All I want from people, whether they attend the wedding or not, is sincere well wishes and to help me celebrate, in their own way, this wonderful occaision in my life. That is their "gift" to me. Just my thoughts, though.
  11. OMG! Everything looked so beautiful! Congratulations! I don't know about everyone else but I know that seeing your beautiful wedding pictures got me so excited for my own wedding! Thank you so much for sharing!

I actually will still probably be at the resort when you get there! I am not far in the process of planning things but if I bring any stuff with me, you are more than welcome to have it after I am done. What are your colors? Mine are green and bright orange and maybe fuscia.

The resort's web page states that the beach set up can only accommodate 40 people. I am also interested to see photographs of the beach set up but I haven't come accross any so far.
  15. I am getting married on October 29, 2009 and I sent the STDs out March 1, 2009. I don't know that you can expect people to be able to RSVP if you don't know the exact date, location and price range so I would suggest working that stuff out before you send the STD but that is just my opinion. I also plan on sending out invitations a little bit earlier than traditionally recommended. I figure that with a destination wedding, people will know earlier if they are coming or not because it is such a committment. So, right now I am thinking maybe July. Wow, time flies!
