  1. I know this post is older but we are now having our wedding at this resort thanks to our good friend the swine flu. We were originally planning to get married at Paradisus Riviera Maya May 20th but that is now history. We are in the works of organizing things last minute. Not sure anything about the resort or their services, to be honest, but I will let you know once I go.
  2. Add us to the list of people cancelled! We found out today that we will not be getting married in Mexico on May 20th, as we originally planned. It took a while to set in but we are both fairly upset. We are just finishing school and have our last 2 final exams Tuesday and Thursday and had planned everything for the wedding. Now, we are stuck trying to write exams and finish school while we try to figure out what we are supposed to do about the wedding. Our travel agent is looking to find alternative plans. However, some of our guests do not have travel insurance so they might be left out. We also planned our wedding with a company outside of our resort so we are afraid we might lose our money because as far as they are concerned there is nothing wrong in Mexico (they literally thought we were joking when we told them we had to cancel!). I really hope this doesn't affect many more couples and that everything settles down so the planned weddings can go on. Good luck everyone!!
  3. Unfortunately our trip to Paradisus Riviera Maya has been cancelled. We were traveling with Transat and were supposed to be leaving mid-May (for wedding May 20th). We are now scrambling to figure out where to go and how to get our group's travel plans switched. We also planned our entire wedding with a separate company and are trying to get our money back from them. I feel so bad for everyone out there. I really hope everyone can get things figured out with the least amount of hassle. For those of you having weddings in June and later I hope everything settles and that you aren't affected as well.
  4. Thanks for the advice! So far all of our guests are remaining calm...they fly directly to Cancun so they aren't too worried! Sounds like we'll just have to be careful during our Mexico City transfer and hope for the best. Good luck to everybody else! Meagan
  5. I know it may be a bit early to start getting anxious about this, but is anybody else worried about going to Mexico in the next few weeks because of the swine flu? We are leaving for Mexico on May 14 so we are definitely hoping the situation in Mexico gets better by then and not worse. There is no formal travel advisory as of now, but we wanted to know if anybody is thinking of changing their plans last minute? How do people feel about this? We are actually traveling through Mexico City, so we are extra worried! Thanks! Meagan
  6. We sent in our birth certificates about 2 weeks ago to Giovanni Translators (in Calgary) and we already received them back yesterday with all the different stamps for notarization and certification. Others have suggested this company on this thread and we found them to be extremely easy. You just mail in your documents and they translate them and then send them to the right people to get stamped, etc. I'd definitely give them a try if you need the paper work done.
  7. Hi! We are getting married in Playa Del Carmen May 20th, 2009 and are using Caribbean Blue Weddings. I have been emailing Irene and she is always prompt and helpful. I haven't had any difficulties (fingers crossed) yet. We're (including all of our guests) staying at the Paradisus Riviera Maya but will be leaving the resort to got to Playa for the wedding. Here's their webpage: Playa del Carmen Caribbean Blue Weddings Home Page

  10. Hi Everyone, I've been lurking on this forum for a while and haven't really posted anything because we have decided to not have our wedding or reception at the Paradisus. I feel attached to the Paradisus because we will be spending 11 days there but as far as wedding planning goes we are going elsewhere. We made our decision not to use the wedding services of the Paradisus based solely on the fact that we really couldn't handle the slow communication (Missy...I have no idea how you did it being such a take-charge/"anal" kind of person, but your wedding looked amazing). From the sounds and looks of things everyone has great weddings at the Paradisus but we needed things to be a little quicker so we could feel like we're in control. Also, someone had mentioned feeling overwhelmed by all the info here. Trust me, we were too! We wanted a destination wedding to make it simple and in a way more affordable. And if that's what you really want, you don't need to do the vast majority of the really cool stuff everyone else is doing here. I am blown away at the high quality of all the details everyone has and sometimes feel I should be doing the same. However, we just had to realize that our simple plans were really good enough and the trip to Mexico is going to be the treat in the end. For that reason, we are getting married with a simple short ceremony then having a nice dinner and anything else that happens will be extra. I'm super excited and can't wait!
  11. Fanny & yamille, I just realized we will all be at Paradisus at roughly the same time. We are getting married May 20th, 2009 and originally were planning on getting married at the resort but now have decided to use Caribbean Blue Weddings and get married in Playa Del Carmen. We'll still be at the resort though for 11 days though.
  12. I didn't know the shipping was so expensive. I am only planning on getting the smaller bags and am not sure if that is a cheaper option in terms of shipping. Do you know if works out cheaper (total cost wise: candy plus shipping) if you go with the smaller bags vs. the larger box? Sometimes these things work out strange...have you looked?
  13. Tara--those looked really good. I really can't wait to try this out. I'm glad I got to see a pic from someone who has already tried it.
  14. This thread was dead for so I was shocked to come back and see all the replies! Futureeileen...that's an awesome story. I now wish I would have thought of the M&Ms when I originally proposed. I am not sure yet what to get written on them. I was just thinking our names on one and our wedding date on another. Plus, you can get pictures on them too so I was going to put a picture of each of us. I'm not going to order them until the closer to the wedding though. I really like M&Ms so I can't wait to see how they turn out.
  15. Hi Tracy, I found out about that translator through Nanner431 on this thread. The first post outlines all the steps that you may be required to complete for paperwork and Nanner431 mentioned that she had success with Giovanni Translators helping her with getting it all done. The translators are located in Calgary and I just googled them to find a phone number. Matt
