  1. Yeah Monkey, I don't feel like I get an unbiased opinion there at all! And it seems whatever I ask, they say it can't be done and don't offer alternative solutions. I basically get a tough $hit answer every time... plus, on important stuff like this, I need actual facts! I won't take their word when it comes to the legalities of my wedding!!! I read the forum for ideas though. Hazel, we hear ya on the planner thing! I would love to have someone handle the whole deal for me, but it doesn't look like I can trust them too! You could also have the minister handle all the paperwork for you for about $100. I found island preacha's website to be really helpful. All the info, prices and options are in there! Island Preacha: Memorable Weddings... Island Style! Let us know how it goes with the planner! Oh, and I can't take credit for that photographer list! I found it on here somewhere and saved it! I believe it was on Bride Referrals...
  2. Hey girl, Yeah, I'm on cruise critic too. I'm FutureSMRN (That's my sn on the knot too). So, I wouldn't have to high tail it to the town hall? I could just go the next day when I had time, establish resisency, apply for the marriage license, and get married all in the same day (If I had a letter from the ship)? Awesome! I got sick of someone on that site that I'm pretty sure works for TWE always answering my questions.
  3. I know, I thought I was alone! lol. After seeing what the coordinators do I think I'll save the money and do it myself. I can't justify spending all that money and still have to do the planning for my wedding. I really wanted to hand it all over to someone, but it doesn't look like they do much, and at this point I wouldn't trust them! I don't think it'd be too hard. I'm really not picky or have a huge fantasy built up in my head. I think as long as there is good food, ambiance, music and fabulous photographer, I'll be happy. I'm working on getting recommendations from the past Bahamas brides from TK. I'll let you know what I find out. One is one vacation, so it might be a while. So, the license.... the ship gets in at 4, the town hall thing closes at 5. If I don't make it in time to establish residency, I won't be able to make it legal there. It doesn't leave any room for screw ups! I wish we could bring fresh flowers, but customs... they wouldn't even allow them on the ship. I think I may just do the grocery store thing too. I really don't like fake flowers, and they are really expensive as well, so I don't want to go that route unless I have to. Talk to you later!
  4. Doing your own flowers is a great idea, I may follow your example!!! Here is a post about a free DW photographer I just saw on The Knot... An oldie popping by - this is too good not to share! - The Knot Forums I haven't looked at all of them yet, but I've heard great things. If you're on The Knot (the Destination Wedding board)as well, let them know b/c they may give you a discount. I've seen some really great names on it! Specifically, Del Sol. I'd give my left arm to have them!!!! I'm sure with their talent, skill and quality, they are probably out of my price range. 5. Oh, the cloud was too much... lol. unreal. I WILL NOT be getting an island photographer either!!! I think I'm going to bring one on the ship with us and get pics of the whole trip, along with wedding, and TTD pics. I can't believe the island photographers are so expensive! Have you tried finding one that does free DWs in exchange for travel? Let me know if you need help finding one, I have a list of recommended photographers. None that would put your face in a cloud though, sorry to disappoint! Whoa, about the flowers.... Is that the least expensive you could find, or is that the most updated florist? Judging from some of the websites, I envision them sticking tons of baby's breath in them..... ugh. I don't think I could justify spending that much on bouquets, especially since you can't bring it back with you! That sucks! Do you have a venue picked out yet? I'm thinking I'm going to go with Compass Point... Well, Good luck with everything, girly. Definitely keep me updated! ~Shellie
  6. ugh, no offense, but I can't stand the girl or her work! She was banned from the other site I'm on as well. I wasn't surprised to see her banned from here either. (we need a smiley with a red flag!!!) I'm probably going to use Leah Stafford photography. She's really talented, great to work with, and affordable Leah Stafford Photography Leah Stafford Photography Emily Jackson is really good too Emily Jackson Photography It's been really difficult finding on-island vendors with up-to-date websites and style.... I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw a site with a pic of the bride and groom in the freakin clouds!
  7. I've been digging into the cruises more, and I found another with atleast 3 days in the Bahamas........ Norwegian cruise lines NCL Cruise Details
  8. I can't seem to find much info on wedding locations in Nassau. I've seen pics of Compass Point, and it looks nice, but I can't find much on much else.... Can anyone tell me any kind of price ranges on some of the locations, or share any pics of them? I would forever be grateful!
  9. Yeah, you have to get a letter from the ship stating the date and time you arrived, to give to the town hall. I don't know if they go by when your ship came in, or when you actually get to the town hall and have it all documented. I'd get my butt down there asap, just in case! Oh, and the office is only open until 5... a lot of ships get in at 4, so you'd really want to hussle in there!

  11. Hey girl, This is a huge possibility for me right now, too. You have to be in the Bahamas for 24 hrs before you can apply for a marriage license, but you can get married right after you apply. So, if you got there on Monday morning, you could get married Tuesday evening. Right when you get there, go and establish your residency at the town hall. The next day, you go and apply for your marriage license, and you can get married. The only intinerary I've found so far that allows enough time to do this, is the 4-day carnival sensation stopping in Freeport first, then an overnight in Nassau. You would establish residency while in Freeport, then the next evening when in Nassau, you could get married. If you wanted an morning or afternoon wedding, you could always have it the next day. http://www.vacationstogo.com/fastdeal.cfm?deal=22546 Good luck!
  12. Another PR bride here! I'll only be there a day though... we're taking a cruise and getting married when we stop in San Juan. I haven't made any solid plans yet, but I'm in love with The Ritz. I'm sure it'll be way out of my budget, so if anyone knows of anywhere nice kinda close to the port, I'd love to hear about it! I'll take any recommendations I can get! (Hey Jennifer/MsSunshine!!! It's Shellie!)
  13. Yeah, the requirements don't sound fun at all. I'll figure out which option we'll go with when it's gets closer... We chose PR because of the hours the ship is in port. This way we can have our sunset ceremony, and a dinner reception. The ship makes you have a morning or an early wedding, and a 90 min. lunch reception, because the ships leave most ports at 4pm. That's not what I want AT ALL, so I did some research and found the ships pretty much only stay in PR, and Bermuda late. I was just curious if anyone would have any recs on sites, or vendors or anything. I have my eye on the Ritz (some pics below)... but if anyone knows of a gorgeous place I should look into, let me know! If you have anything to say about PR, or Carnival cruises (specifically the Liberty) please share!!! Thanks, ladies! Here's my bio if you're intersted in looking Home (SGnBM's DW Ideas)
  14. Anyone know anything about getting married while stopped in Puerto Rico? Any advice, suggestions, stories about experiences? I did a search but nothing turned up. It's hard getting any info on this location!
  15. 1. Name: Shellie 2. Wedding date: not set (fall 2010-spring 2011) 3. Wedding location: Keeps changing; I'm hoping the latest idea of Puerto Rico sticks. Hi, my fiance Bryan and I will be taking about 30 close family/friends on a caribbean cruise for our wedding. I have gone thru a few different locations, and something has been a deal breaker everytime! We have considered Key West, Grand Cayman, Bermuda and St Thomas. I'm hoping PR sticks!
