  1. I had the same problem; I spent 3 months researching every island in the Caribbean, every country in Europe, and many states in the USA. I got so freakin' frustrated, and then one day I stumbled upon "the one" (and in my case, it ended up NOT being a resort, like I originally planned for, and instead a restaurant). So, eventually my hard work paid off; but there were certainly days where I was like, "forget it, I don't want to look any more!". But trust me; eventually you will find "the one" too!! Gosh, it's an awful lot like dating, huh? It's funny you mentioned the food & photography; those were my two most important things too!! So, of course I am biased, but you should check out the Grand Old House in Grand Cayman, if food is your thing! Regardless of what you end up choosing, I am sure you will have a beautiful wedding.
  2. Welcome to the forum! Congratulations and happy planning!
  3. Welcome! I'm also a May 2009 bride! This forum is such an amazing resource; it's better to find it late than never! By the way, I looooove Hilton Head; what a gorgeous place to get married! Congratulations!
  4. I nominate Bachatabride for B2B; she always has such helpful posts and responses!
  5. Wow, your fiancee is a lucky woman! That is incredibly kind of you to help take some of the weight off of her shoulders. I'm sure you'll find this forum to be a great resource for you; I sure did! Congratulations and good luck!
  6. Where exactly do you plan to lose 15 pounds from? Your big toe? Seriously, though, your dress looks absolutely amazing on you! Your fiance is a lucky man!
  7. Because he makes me a better person! Without even realizing it, his sweet personality infiltrated my own. Furthermore, he is just the kindest and sweetest person I've ever met. My mom said to me tonight, "I've never seen a man look at a woman with so much love in his eyes, like Ryan looks at you"--and this is from my cynical thrice-divorced mother! Sometimes I can't believe how incredibly lucky I am. When it comes down to it; I'm absolutely crazy about him, and all that he represents. **Contented Sigh**
  8. First of all-- Erika, I can't believe I found another Citizen Cope fan! He is freakin' amazing! !!! He grabbed my hand when I saw him last in concert, and I didn't wash it for two days....hmmmm... maybe I shouldn't have admitted that! That should probably go in the "Confessions" thread. Secondly, I'm debating on which song to use for my recessional too. We're having a pianist do the ceremony, so that limits the songs I would've chosen. I would've like liked the instrumental version of "Bittersweet Symphony" otherwise. So far, I'm leaning toward "Joy to the World" by 3 Dog Night (NOT the Christmas Song!!). Though I would certainly welcome other suggestions. However, to the original poster, if you are doing a CD or DJ, I think "Beautiful Day" by U2 would be great, as would "Bittersweet Symphony" (Instrumental) . However, it entirely depends on your taste of music! Though I guess neither are really that beachy... so I agree with the other posters about the "Somewhere over the rainbow" song from 50 First Dates (that's what I"m having my bridesmaids walk down the aisle to), or any of the Beach Boys songs. Good luck!!!
  9. I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in; I absolutely LOOOOVE this show! I was beginning to think I was the only girl who watched this show! However, it really pisses me off that the season is so short! Not only is this show incredibly awesome, but my fiance looks an awful lot like Mac, which makes it even better!
  10. San Juan AND St. Thomas are both US territories; therefore, both would be easy to get married in. However, I also hear it is relatively easy in Tortola too. I believe St. Lucia has a 3 day residency requirement (but don't quote me on that), and I have no idea about Barbados. I personally recommend St. Thomas at Magen's Bay--it is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Regardless, you'll find a wealth of information on BDW!
  11. Yes, I agree with all the other posters. Often the butterflies are dead (or near dead); not only is this not what you want to happen on your wedding day, it is also incredibly eco-insensitive. I'm personally a little horrified about the idea.
  12. Welcome! Know that Sandals "free wedding" is usually set up for an elopement, and not a wedding with guests (as far as I know, any way, and I could certainly be wrong). However, I've heard that St. Lucia is a beautiful place to get married, and was definitely a forerunner in places I was looking at! BDW is a great place to get info on St. Lucia and the venues available. Congrats!
  13. You came to the right place! There is such a wealth of information to be found here; especially in regard to DWs in Mexico! Congrats!
  14. I thought about the Westin at St. John, but was completely unimpressed by their customer service (and some of their reviews). However, there are other resorts at St. John that are supposed to be awesome (i.e. Caneel Bay). Though I hear villas are the way to go in USVI. As for Turks & Caicos; it's supposed to be absolutely beautiful and the Somerset is supposed to be amazing. And Four Seasons is always wonderful. Regardless of which you choose, I'm sure you will have an amazing wedding!!!
  15. Ummm.. I don't watch this show, but it seems like this Spencer guy probably has an ulterior motive; another wedding means more $$$$ for magazine covers and photos. I remember hearing about this wedding, and said to myself, this is NOT an elopement (thanks BDW on all the destination wedding legalities info!), and I bet they did it so they can have another wedding and get more money! And, yup, I'm a cynical chica!

Congrats; Mexico is such a perfect locale for a wedding!
  17. I had a similar experience with a wedding planner. She also seemed a bit "pushy" but her reviews and prices seemed pretty good. But I had this bad feeling in my gut, so I did some additional research, and found out that she overcharged her clients and snuck in a lot of hidden fees, slacked on services, pushed you towards vendors that would give HER money for booking, etc. etc. I'm so glad that I trusted my gut and did a bit more research. The fact that your planner didn't respond right away, then forgot about talking with you, makes it seem like she might not be very organized. I say trust your instinct on this. Planners are expensive, so make sure you get your moneys worth!
  18. Oh, it definitely went national! I've seen the article on a lot of main news sites, and on gossip sites like perez hilton. Which, sadly, is probably exactly what these sickos wanted..

    newbie!

Let us know which one you choose! I hear Sandals Whitehouse is amazing--I want to honeymoon there! BDW will definitely help you decide; also TripAdvisor is great too! Regardless of which one you choose, it will be awesome!
  20. Great question! I was thinking of visiting a MAC counter myself; let us know how it goes! And of those of you that have used MAC; is it worth it?
  21. Congrats; you picked such a great place to get married!!!
  22. Okay, so my wedding coordinator just sent me the ceremony vows, and for the most part, they are great. However, the ceremony will end with this: "Ladies and Gentlemen, it is with great pleasure that I present for the first time Mr. And Mrs. ____________________" The problem is, I'm not taking my fiance's last name; I'm keeping my own. Nor is he taking mine. So, what can this sentence be replaced with? I'm at a total loss. I want a conclusive statement at the end of the ceremony, and I want us to be "presented", I just can't think of how to word it. Any help would be so greatly appreciated!
  23. Hi! I'm getting married in Grand Cayman in May 2009, and there are only 2 main photographers that I know of in Grand Cayman (David Wolfe and Rebecca Davidson). I've been trying to get in contact with them for MONTHS, and neither of them have even acknowledged my messages. I'm getting a little panicky about this; after all, photography is such an important part of the wedding. Any advice about what to do in this situation
  24. Where are you getting married at in St. Thomas? There are so many beautiful choices!!! Congrats!
